The new format includes an expansion of the lottery from 14 to 16 teams, including the 8-seed in each conference's playoff picture, and an anti-tanking measure where the bottom three teams are dealt lesser chances for the No. 1 overall pick and flattens odds for teams that do not qualify for the playoffs or the play-in tournament.

Nets Linked With Interest In Signing Austin Reaves
Austin Reaves has been expected to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, but sources tell ESPN that the Brooklyn Nets are a potential bidder to monitor. The Nets have enough cap space to sign a max-type player and do not control their first round draft pick in 2027, which could motivate them to expedite their rebuild. Reaves' market has been projected to be closer to $200 million over five years than his max of $239 million.
Jalen Duren Likely To Sign For Under 25 Percent Of Salary Cap In Free Agency
Jalen Duren wisely declined to sign a contract extension with the Detroit Pistons last year and became an All-NBA player, but his poor performance in the playoffs will likely result in a slight reduction of his contract in restricted free agency. Duren is eligible for the Rose rule max of 30 percent that would start at $49 million, but ESPN projects his average salary to be closer to $40 million, which would be approximately $200 million over five seasons.
