Schwab's Jon Beatty is one custody head offering a port in the storm after Fidelity unmoors its sub-$100M RIAs and Altruist's Jason Wenk , Apex's Bill Capuzzi and TradePMR's R. Scott Victoria are among others
Brooke's Note: In our previous article on this Fidelity topic, Michael Kitces pointed out that the RIA custody model is “broken.” It's a slight exaggeration to make a point but certainly supporting small RIAs that pay no fees is not cash-cow material. Yet, custodians for decades largely welcomed small RIAs. The small fry – with higher survical rates than salmon minnows – grow into big fish that more than reward the custodian's patience, and make up for the duds.
Fidelity's move to kick sub-$100-million RIAs off its platform is 'bizarre,' Kitces says; it’s likely to backfire, Chalekian says; yet, the Fidelity-Savvy deal last week may soften any blow
Fidelity has shocked – but not shocked – the RIA industry; it’s not only done with sub-$100-million RIAs, but it's also sending them packing – one source wonders whether Fidelity's Savvy deal last week's adds more to its story. The No. 2 Boston RIA custodian delivered the hard news in a short letter on its stationery to presumably hundreds or thousands of financial advisors who are likely small, state-registered firms.
Fidelity Investments just cast a wider net for RIA custody revenues by backstopping Savvy Wealth's (expected mid-2027 ) custody launch -- hastened by the lean-in of 'multi-billion-AUM' RIA prospects, the company says
Fidelity Investments now has another, more AI-focused fishing line in the water for RIA custody assets. It has agreed to deepen its relationship with a $9-billion, RIA custody client– and allow it to launch its own RIA custody service. The Boston giant and No. 2 RIA custodian is supporting the 2027 launch of Savvy Wealth's RIA custody service, “Savvy Custodial Platform.” Jason Wenk: Savvy will never be fully seamless.

For These Dealmakers, RIA Consolidation Is a Race to Scale
What You Need to Know One key issue is whether valuation multiples are aligned with growth. Aging industry founders have developed valuable businesses but have failed at internal succession planning. Traditional referrals are not keeping up with baby boomers in decumulation. The consolidation of the RIA industry is playing out in real time, as the big players get even bigger in their pursuit of the holy grail called scale.

The first 1,000 days are critically important to a child’s development Original
Our state faces a crisis in early learning and childcare. Science shows that about 80% of a child’s brain foundation is formed within the first 1,000 days of life. Research has also shown that investments in early childhood development produce an annual ROI of 7-10% by improving school and career achievement and reducing costs for remedial education, health care, and the criminal justice system. Unfortunately, we see deep inequities in accessing the support to foster healthy brain development.

Indie BDs Dominate as Tech Rises and Brands Fall
For decades the industry has seen a gradual migration of advisors from employee-based channels to independent operators. In fact, industry researcher Cerulli predicts that in the next few years, there will be more advisors and assets in the independent channel than in traditional Wall Street brokerage firms. The breakaway broker phenomenon is alive, well and growing fast. What fuels this movement?

Get smart about the future of trading
If there was ever an industry in transition, it's the investment management industry. The pace of change is accelerating and transforming investing. This continuous march in industry transformation began in the mid-1970s with the de-regulation of commissions, which unleashed disruption that is still present. On May 1, 1975, and for the first time in 180 years, trading fees were set by market competition, instead of the government.
Financial advisers: It’s time to robo
When the first robo advisers started to gain traction in financial advice a few years ago, the natural tendency among some financial advisers was to fear for their survival. Look at how technology has impacted booksellers, travel agents, taxi drivers and video and music stores, and you’ll see why advisers might have been worried. But the wealth management industry is proving to be much more adaptable to technology disruption than these other industries.
Exactly how long does it take to think a thought?
It may seem like an instant, but just what is the speed of thought? As inquisitive beings, we are constantly questioning and quantifying the speed of various things. With a fair degree of accuracy, scientists have quantified the speed of light, the speed of sound, the speed at which the earth revolves around the sun, the speed at which hummingbirds beat their wings, the average speed of continental drift.... These values are all well-characterized. But what about the speed of thought?

Plus Ca Change: The Oil Spill Called Autism
By Tim Welsh After the 2010 1 in 88 autism prevalennce announcement and the Gulf Oil Spill I posted this re-written version of President Obama's speech as if he was talking about autism and not the oil to CNN Ireport but only got 30 views. It is amazing how few words I had to change in the President's speech and how relevant this is after the 2014 CDC's 1 in 68 prevalence announcement. Take five minutes to imagine if every line of this was implemented... Good evening.
Autism & Asperger's Discrimination, Isolation, a Difference, Bad Luck or Attitude.
Illustration number two is as much as a warning as it is example of what can go wrong. I had been sleep deprived for a couple of weeks ( More than usual). Tanner had to be taken to the hospital I was feeling bad ( Maybe Guilt?) for not being with Cheri. I was keeping touch via the phone. I told my direct manager not to expect to much from me that day. Cheri called and asked me to get prescription for Tanner at lunch and bring it home.
CONTEST: Write the 125,000th Autism Tweet from @TannersDad
By Tim Welsh 125,000 tweets for our families. What would you say? @TannersDad Contest / Request This weekend I will reach the milestone of 125,000 tweets for Autism Action as @TannersDad. I would like to open the floor up to our Age of Autism family to pen that tweet. I will chose the best of the best comments on this post. Feel free to share on Facebook, groups and other formats. Imagine the Feelings
I can relate to the feelings of the athletes back home. That one precious spot to become an Olympic champion was forfeited. They had trained their whole career to go over that mountain, but were beat out in trials only to turn on the tv to see no U.S. representation. As Fathers and Mothers we have hopes and dreams for our life and legacy. Parents are often attacked for this, I really don't know why and will explore that in future blogs.
A Friend's Ear
Over the years of avidly studying mainstream media, news and entertainment, I have witnessed many slips. I have been rebuked, berated, blocked and even suspended from social media accounts because I called attention to reporters, entertainers and anchors. There have been mentions of Nieces, Nephews, Sons and Daughters on the autism spectrum or dealing with special needs issues. There are so many of us fighting a good, but for most a very private fight.
Tanner's Dad: A Failed Experiment
By Tim Welsh One of the things I have most admired about Age of Autism is its political neutrality over the years. I know that Autism crosses every boundary. I have met and become friends with rich and poor, every ethnicity, every profession and people with every political persuasion. The blog today is a biographical because I feel I need to convey my unusual perspective. I also find myself at a crossroad of life. I believed. I hoped. I dreamed.
Tanner's Dad: Why Some React Differently
The time arrived to head out. I can remember it being one of the longest car rides ever. My Parents dropped me off and I quickly said my goodbyes. I could not push them back in the car fast enough, You know that stage in life when you are too cool to be seen with them. That very first night we were scheduled to have a trail ride a dusk so there was a lot to do.
A Father's View - Adding Insult to Injury.
Educational Environment - I think most of us with school age children have dealt with this. 20 people in a room to develop an "Individual Education Plan." I am pretty even keeled but I recall so many emotions and residual nightmares from this experience. Sounds great in the room but sneak into your child's classroom and things look a lot different. Constant pounding of the save money drum beat from administrators. Really digging into this one will take another post or maybe a book or two.
Lessons Learned from Failure.
The second project was AutismAid. This Non Profit was a dream of mine to unite all the service Autism Non Governmental organizations in an umbrella organization that provided backbone back room support to all doing such valiant work in the field. These organizations are working so hard for our loved ones. I hoped to piggyback off the success of winning a number of Pepsi refresh grants and Toyota cars for good. Also the working with Samsung and the Dan Marino Foundation was very rewarding.

Reviving America's Cities on a Global Scale
America’s cities are the vital engine of the nation’s growth. Through boom and bust, they have shown a talent for reinvention. Urban America needs to mobilize that talent once more.
