Abstract Simultaneous prescription of multiple drugs is widespread in medicine. Although the gut microbiome is implicated in drug responses, its role in mediating drug–drug interactions is unexplored. Catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitors (COMT-I), a class of drugs used alongside levodopa (L-DOPA) to treat Parkinson’s disease symptoms, can alter microbiome composition in patients.

The University of Florida's cancer center is now an institute

Florida research and university officials elevated the University of Florida's cancer center to now be an institute, a prestigious shift for the UF Health Cancer Center as it grows to be a leading cancer research institution in the country. UF Health announced the new designation Monday, after the Florida Board of Governors approved this change Sept. 16, said Matthew Walker, a UF Health spokesperson.

Drug take-back day brings in pounds and pounds of prescribed meds at HCA sites

Residents dropped off their unused or expired prescription drugs at HCA Florida Gainesville Emergency on Saturday as part of efforts from medical communities to ensure drugs are safely disposed of. This is the seventh annual Crush the Crisis at HCA Florida Gainesville Emergency, one of 36 HCA collection sites in Florida and 140 across the country. The initiative by HCA Healthcareis in support of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
