$15 million car condo development opens in Urbandale

A $15 million car condo development called Grand Lux Motor Condos has opened in Urbandale, featuring 41 units designed for car enthusiasts to store and showcase their vehicles in style. Car collector David Baum, one of the first condo owners, described the space as "the best of all worlds for anybody that collects vehicles and motorcycles, cars, trucks, whatever it might be," he said. Baum keeps five cars in his unit, which he calls his personal museum, free of lawnmowers and snow blowers.

Investigators say son confessed in Madison County mother's killing

A Madison County man has been charged with first-degree murder after investigators say he shot his mother multiple times and dragged her body outside her home. Theodore Corkrean, 23, is accused of killing his mother, Tammy Corkrean, who was 60 years old. Madison County Chief Deputy Clayton Allen said the incident is highly unusual for the area. "Very unusual for Madison County. Very unusual. It's quiet. Quiet County," Allen said.

HIRTA cuts Indianola bus service to 2 days a week

The Heart of Iowa Regional Transportation Agency, or HIRTA, is reducing service hours in Indianola, Perry, and Knoxville starting July 1 due to funding shortages and rising operational costs. Jim Supina, a HIRTA rider for six years, said the service is vital for his independence. "I was diagnosed with glaucoma, so I had to stop driving," Supina said. Supina frequently uses HIRTA to travel from Indianola to Des Moines for doctor appointments.
