Methodological audit and empirical evaluation of a lightweight whole-volume 3D CNN for preterm brain injury classification
Abstract This study uses methodological auditing to evaluate a proof-of-concept engineering pipeline for classifying radiological severity groups of preterm brain injury (BI) from T2-weighted MRI in the dHCP cohort. Its primary contribution is methodology-driven empirical discovery rather than a new neural-network architecture.
Molecular architecture of Cryptococcus cell walls reveals species-specific chitosan-dependent remodeling
Abstract Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii are fungal pathogens that cause life-threatening infections, including cryptococcal meningitis. A distinctive feature of the cryptococcal cell wall is the extensive deacetylation of chitin to chitosan, a modification that is essential for virulence but whose structural role in cell-wall organization remains poorly understood.
ISGylation promotes ALDOA stability and PKM2-dependent activation to fuel colorectal cancer metabolism
Abstract ISG15 overexpression in cancers has emerged as a diagnostic marker and therapeutic target. This study identifies ISGylation, a post-translational modification mediated by ISG15, as a critical driver of CRC progression through metabolic reprogramming and oncogenic signaling. Clinical and multi-omics analyses reveal elevated ISG15 and ISGylation levels in CRC tissues, correlating with advanced clinicopathological features and poor prognosis.
Oxidative stress-responsive cell wall remodeling depends on phosphate in Candida albicans
Abstract The growing number of patients susceptible to invasive Candida albicans infections has intensified the need for effective antifungal targets in pathways essential for fungal growth and pathogenesis. Among these pathways, phosphate homeostasis has emerged as a significant determinant of virulence, yet how phosphate availability shapes cell wall structure in response to host-derived oxidative stress remains unclear. During commensal growth, C.
Resolving closely spaced corners using second order Gaussian directional derivatives
Abstract Corner detection is a fundamental step in many computer vision tasks, including image matching and 3D reconstruction. However, closely spaced corners are difficult to distinguish because inappropriate smoothing scales may cause the filtered responses of neighboring structures to overlap, leading to missed or inaccurately localized corners.
A bipartite glucan synthase-remodeler module organizes branched glucan assembly in the fungal cell wall
Abstract The fungal cell wall is an essential extracellular matrix that underpins growth, morphogenesis, and pathogenesis. Cell wall construction requires numerous enzymes that synthesize and remodel extracellular polymers, yet the principles governing their spatial and functional organization remain unclear.
[2608.19423] Shape-Preserving Covariate Adjustment via Empirical Likelihood in Randomized Experiment
Covariate adjustment improves estimation efficiency in randomized experiments, but standard calibration and augmentation methods, when applied to distribution or survival functions, do not preserve monotonicity---a fundamental property of the estimand. We propose using empirical likelihood with covariate-balancing constraints to construct a covariate-adjusted empirical measure for each treatment arm.
Integrating Sustainability and Ethical Responsibility into Building Water Supply and Drainage Engineering Education: A CDIO-Based Curriculum Reform
Submitted: 22 January 2026 You are already at the latest version Engineering education faces growing demands to prepare graduates capable of addressing complex sustainability challenges, public safety concerns, and ethical responsibilities. However, sustainability and ethical education are often delivered as supplementary content, limiting their integration with core engineering instruction.
Electrochemical C–N coupling via adsorption modulation: selective synthesis of amines from biomass-derived 5-hydroxymethylfurfural - Nature Communications
Abstract The electrochemical C–N coupling of biomass-derived 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) with methylamine offers a promising sustainable route to value-added amines. However, achieving high selectivity remains challenging due to competing side reactions, including C = O hydrogenation and C–C dimerization. This paper describes tailoring the surface structure of Ag catalysts to modulate HMF adsorption and intermediate hydrogenation behavior and thus enhancing C–N coupling selectivity.

Ambient Mechanosynthesis of Flexible Two-dimensional Covalent Organic Frameworks
Ambient Mechanosynthesis of Flexible Two-dimensional Covalent Organic Frameworks Flexible two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs) constructed from nonplanar building blocks represent an emerging paradigm in COF design. Nevertheless, the prevailing solvothermal synthesis suffers from low time efficiency, environmental unfriendliness, and cumbersome protocols.
Semi-transparent and stable In2S3/CdTe heterojunction photoanodes for unbiased photoelectrochemical water splitting - Nature Communications
Abstract The development of low-cost, high-performance, and stable photoanodes is essential for solar-driven photoelectrochemical energy conversion. In2S3, an n-type semi-transparent semiconductor (~2.0 eV), is particularly well-suited as a photoanode in PEC tandem devices. However, the Schottky barrier at the In2S3/FTO interface as well as the inherent defects in In2S3 suppress charge extraction.

Abstract The rise of scientific populism has become a global issue, but research on the coexistence of scientific elitism and scientific populism, especially in East Asian societies, is still limited. Based on a large-scale online survey conducted in the Chinese mainland in 2023 (N = 2922), this study explores the tendencies towards scientific elitism, scientific populism, and scientific pluralism among different groups in Chinese society.
Electrochemical epoxidation enhanced by C2H4 activation and hydroxyl generation at the Ag/SnO2 interface - Nature Communications
Abstract Direct electrochemical ethylene (C2H4) epoxidation with water (H2O) represents a promising approach for the production of value-added ethylene oxide (EO) in a sustainable way. However, the activity remains limited due to the sluggish activation of C2H4 and the stiff formation of *OH intermediate.

A silicon photoanode protected with TiO2/stainless steel bilayer stack for solar seawater splitting - Nature Communications
Abstract Photoelectrochemical seawater splitting is a promising route for direct utilization of solar energy and abundant seawater resources for H2 production. However, the complex salinity composition in seawater results in intractable challenges for photoelectrodes. This paper describes the fabrication of a bilayer stack consisting of stainless steel and TiO2 as a cocatalyst and protective layer for Si photoanode.

The Uridylyl Transferase TUT7‐Mediated Accumulation of Exosomal miR‐1246 Reprograms TAMs to Support CRC Progression
1 Introduction Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the most common malignant tumors in China, with increased incidence in recent years.[1] Surgical intervention is currently the main therapeutic approach for CRC, yet for patients with advanced or metastatic cases, it often fails to yield satisfactory outcomes,[2, 3] since as many as 30% of patients experience a recurrence or metastasis in the long term after surgical treatment.[4] Recently, immunotherapy has emerged as a promising...
Molecular-level architecture of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii’s glycoprotein-rich cell wall - Nature Communications
Abstract Microalgae are a renewable and promising biomass for large-scale biofuel, food and nutrient production. However, their efficient exploitation depends on our knowledge of the cell wall composition and organization as it can limit access to high-value molecules. Here we provide an atomic-level model of the non-crystalline and water-insoluble glycoprotein-rich cell wall of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.
