Amy Wood’s Biography
I've been anchoring the news since 1987. And for most of that time, I've also been the person in the newsroom asking, what's the next platform, and why aren't we on it yet?
I've learned the anchors who last aren't the ones who wait to see what happens next. They're the ones who go find out.
In 2008, I became one of the first news anchors in the country to bring live chat and later social media into a live newscast. At the time, people thought it was a gimmick. It wasn't.
That was the beginning of a career built on news media innovation — figuring out what platform comes next and how journalism lives there.
Today I anchor the evening news at WSPA 7 in Greenville-Spartanburg and produce and host my own weekly digital show, Off Air with Amy, on connected TV and YouTube.
And I'm deep in experimenting with AI in journalism - how it changes the way we gather, verify, and tell stories.
I speak to newsrooms, industry conferences, and media organizations about audience engagement, local news strategy, and what it actually looks like to adapt in real time, not in theory.
Four Emmys. SC Broadcaster's Anchor of the Year twice. Paley Center speaker. Reynolds Journalism Institute panelist. HubSpot Top 100 Women on Twitter when that still meant something.
But mostly, I show up every day and figure out what's next. That part will never change.
