Diagnostic performance of ultrasonographic medial gastrocnemius muscle thickness for sarcopenia in patients on maintenance hemodialysis
Abstract Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the performance of ultrasonographic medial gastrocnemius muscle thickness (MGMT) and pennation angle (MGMPA) in diagnosing sarcopenia among patients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). Methods: The MGMT and MGMPA were measured ultrasonographically. Baseline characteristics were compared between the sarcopenia and non-sarcopenia groups. Correlations between ultrasound parameters and sarcopenia indicators were evaluated.

METTL3-mediated m6A methylation to promote mandibular condyle fracture repair via TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway
Abstract Mandibular condylar fractures are common maxillofacial injuries. N6-methyladenosine (m6A), one of the most abundant eukaryotic mRNA modifications, has not yet been clearly elucidated in terms of its specific role in condylar fracture repair. A mandibular condyle fracture rat model was established. Micro-CT scans and biochemical indicators were measured at 1- and 5 weeks post-fracture. The expression levels of m6A methylation-related enzymes were analyzed.

Relationships of Liver X Receptor Antagonists and Atherosclerosis in Drinking Water from Six Chinese Major Cities
While environmental factors have been considered contributors to atherosclerosis, it remains unclear whether drinking water promotes foam cell formation, the initial event of atherosclerosis. This study revealed that drinking water from six major cities in China, namely, Harbin, Jinan, Shanghai, Wuhan, Chongqing, and Zhuhai, significantly promoted foam cell formation in an in vitro macrophage model at a minimum concentration fold of 2.

Stepped M@Pt(211) (M = Co, Fe, Mo) single-atom alloys promote deoxygenation of lignin-derived phenolics: mechanism, kinetics and descriptor
Stepped M@Pt(211) (M = Co, Fe, Mo) single-atom alloys promote deoxygenation of lignin-derived phenolics: mechanism, kinetics and descriptor The low-coordinated active sites are always intriguing for their unique functionality of promoting specific catalytic reaction. Herein, we employed stepped M@Pt(211) (M = Co, Fe, Mo) single-atom alloy (SAA) to model under-coordinated sites for their deoxygenation activity of lignin-derived phenolics.

Single-step EUS-guided drainage of a pancreatic pseudocyst with a modified guidewire as a cystotome
Abbreviation: PPC (pancreatic pseudocyst) In EUS-guided drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts (PPCs), the cystogastrostomy tract is usually established using a cystotome with a guidewire, and a stent or nasocystic catheter is implanted. However, cystic fluid leakage could occur before implantation. Therefore, we modified a guidewire (Fusion LoopTip, Cook Medical, Bloomington, Ind, USA) with a loop tip as a cystotome (Fig.
Unravelling the Role of Oxophilic Metal in Promoting Deoxygenation of Catechol on Ni-Based Alloy Catalyst
Unravelling the Role of Oxophilic Metal in Promoting Deoxygenation of Catechol on Ni-Based Alloy Catalyst Nickel-based alloys have been recognized as the promising catalysts for upgrading of bio-oils because of their superior activity of deoxygenation. Herein, we present a density-functional theory study on hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of catechol on three Ni-based(111) surfaces, namely, Ni(111), bimetallic Fe@Ni(111) single-atom alloy and NiFe(111) homogeneous alloy.

Hydrodeoxygenation of Guaiacol over Bimetallic Fe-Alloyed (Ni, Pt) Surfaces: Reaction Mechanism, Transition-State Scaling Relations and Descriptor for Predicting C-O Bond Scission Reactivity
We examine initial hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of guaiacol on bimetallic NiFe(111) and PtFe(111) using density functional theory. Our results show that on NiFe(111), the direct Caryl−O bond breaking and dehydrogenation are preferred over hydrogenation, while on PtFe(111), hydrogenation/dehydrogenation are preferred over Caryl−O bond breaking.
Structural Determinants of the Gain-of-Function Phenotype of Human Leukemia-associated Mutant CBL Oncogene
Mutations of the tyrosine kinase-directed ubiquitin ligase CBL cause myeloid leukemias, but the molecular determinants of the dominant leukemogenic activity of mutant CBL oncogenes are unclear. Here, we first define a gain-of-function attribute of the most common leukemia-associated CBL mutant, Y371H, by demonstrating its ability to increase proliferation of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) derived from CBL-null and CBL/CBL-B-null mice.

Promoting Oxygen Reduction Reaction by Gold at Step/Edge Sites of Ni@AuPt Core-Shell Nanoparticles
Adding gold as the third element forming ternary Pt-based core?shell nanoparticles (NPs) is an efficient strategy for enhancing the durability of cathode during oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Herein, using high-index (221) facets as a model catalyst, we discovered from density functional theory calculations that inert Au atoms localized at the surface edge sites of Pt-based NPs can effectively promote elementary steps of ORR.
