A patient with CKD complicated by secondary hyperparathyroidism and parathyroid carcinoma: a case report
Abstract Background: Parathyroid carcinoma (PC) is a rare malignancy, representing approximately 0.005% of all malignant tumors. Currently, its etiopathogenesis, diagnostic criteria, and optimal management strategies remain poorly defined. Furthermore, the occurrence of PC in the context of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is an infrequent clinical event. This report details a case of PC arising in a patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and SHPT.

Access to Abundant Resources Mitigates the Effects of Nutritional Status on Life History Trade‐Offs: An Experimental Study on Burying Beetles
1 Introduction Life history theory suggests that individuals should allocate resources between mutually exclusive functions (i.e., somatic and reproductive investment, current and future reproduction, the number and size of offspring), because any increased resource allocation towards one function will be associated with a reduced allocation towards the other (Van Noordwijk and De Jong 1986).

Effects of Nutritional Status During Sexual Maturation and Resource Availability on the Resource Allocation of Females in Burying Beetles
1 Introduction Individuals must allocate resources between different life-history functions such as somatic maintenance and reproduction, current and future reproduction, and offspring number and size (Williams 1966; Van Noordwijk and de Jong 1986; Stearns 1989). It is because these functions compete for the same pool of limited resources and increased allocation to one function will lead to reduced allocation to the other (Van Noordwijk and de Jong 1986).

Enhanced microbiota profiling in patients with quiescent Crohn’s disease through comparison with paired healthy first-degree relatives
Highlights • Using HFDRs as controls identifies more robust CD microbial markers • Faecalibacterium, Dorea, and Fusicatenibacter are biomarkers reduced in quiescent CD • Markers for quiescent CD are inflammation independent, correlated with fecal SCFAs • These markers are specific to CD in diagnostic models Summary Prior studies indicate no correlation between the gut microbes of healthy first-degree relatives (HFDRs) of patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) and the development of CD.
Recent advances in micro/nanomotors for antibacterial applications
Recent advances in micro/nanomotors for antibacterial applications Currently, rapid spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria deriving from the indiscriminate use of traditional antibiotics poses significant threats to public health worldwide. Moreover, established bacterial biofilms are extremely difficult to eradicate because of their high tolerate to traditional antimicrobial agents and extraordinarily resistant to phagocytosis.
Enhanced microbiota profiling in patients with quiescent Crohn's disease through comparison with paired healthy first-degree relatives using fecal metagenomics and metabolomics
Abstract Prior studies indicate no correlation between gut microbiota of healthy first-degree relatives (HFDRs) of Crohn's disease (CD) patients and development of CD. Here, we utilized HFDRs as controls to examine the microbiota and metabolome in individuals with active (CD-A) and quiescent (CD-R) CD, thereby minimizing the influence of genetic and environmental factors. Compared to non-relative controls, the use of HFDR controls identified fewer differential taxa.

Postoperative risk of IDH-mutant glioma-associated seizures and their potential management with IDH-mutant inhibitors
Abstract Seizures are a frequent complication of adult-type diffuse gliomas, and are often difficult to control with medications. Gliomas with mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 or 2 (IDHmut) are more likely than IDH–wild type (IDHwt) gliomas to cause seizures as part of their initial clinical presentation. However, whether IDHmut is also associated with seizures during the remaining disease course, and whether IDHmut inhibitors can reduce seizure risk, are unclear.
Gaps in awareness and practice of healthy lifestyles among individuals at high risk of colorectal cancer: A qualitative evidence synthesis
Abstract Aims To systematically examine and review relevant qualitative studies exploring the current lifestyle among individuals at high risk of colorectal cancer (CRC), and their awareness of the role of a healthy lifestyle in CRC prevention. Background The increasing incidence and mortality of CRC have presented a serious threat against the health and life of people. As the major population affected by CRC, the lifestyle of individuals at a high risk of CRC is attracting increasing attention.

Effects of Terahertz Radiation on the Aggregation of Alzheimer’s Aβ42 Peptide
Abstract : The pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease is thought to be directly linked to the abnormal aggregation of β-amyloid (Aβ) in the nervous system as a common neurodegenerative disease. Consequently, researchers in many areas are actively looking for factors that affect Aβ aggregation. Numerous investigations have demonstrated that, in addition to chemical induction of Aβ aggregation, electromagnetic radiation may also affect Aβ aggregation.

Colorectal cancer survivors’ experience of continuity of care provided by different health professionals: A qualitative evidence synthesis
Abstract Aims and objectives To systematically identify, synthesise and characterise the available qualitative evidence on the experience of adult colorectal cancer survivors with continuity of care led by different health professionals. Background The limited evidence base for effective continuity of care led by different medical staff who assist colorectal cancer survivors with their unique survivorship care hampers the development of effective interventions.
Targeting CD38-dependent NAD+ metabolism to mitigate multiple organ fibrosis
Highlights • CD38 shows elevated expression in skin biopsies of patients with systemic sclerosis • Elevated CD38 is associated with reduced NAD+ and augmented fibrotic responses • Genetic loss of CD38 is associated with increased NAD+ levels and attenuated fibrosis • NAD+ boosting via CD38 inhibition or NR supplementation prevents multi-organ fibrosis Summary The processes underlying synchronous multiple organ fibrosis in systemic sclerosis (SSc) remain poorly understood.
Clinical predictors of mortality due to COVID-19 based on an analysis of data of 150 patients from Wuhan, China
Dear Editor, The rapid emergence of COVID-19 in Wuhan city, Hubei Province, China, has resulted in thousands of deaths [1]. Many infected patients, however, presented mild flu-like symptoms and quickly recover [2]. To effectively prioritize resources for patients with the highest risk, we identified clinical predictors of mild and severe patient outcomes.
