Some rain, not severe weather this weekend for central NC

Posted: Aug 21, 2026 / 11:10 PM EDT Updated: Aug 21, 2026 / 11:44 PM EDT Severe storms rocked parts of central North Carolina, but it’s just rain and a thunderstorm we will have to deal with this weekend. Another weak cold front moved in on Friday, which helped instigate many of the storms Friday, but it also gave us our first day below 90° in more than a week. Saturday will again have a few showers and storms, but not the severe threat. The weekend will also have temperatures below 90° both days.

More 90s before Friday cold front in central NC

There are still two more days of hot temperatures Wednesday and Thursday, with more highs in the 90s and heat index temps around 100°. Most of central North Carolina does not have a heat advisory Wednesday, but heat index temperatures will still be around 100°.

Tuesday stays hot despite cold front in central NC

Another heat advisory is in effect for most of the area on Tuesday, with heat index temperatures expected to be over 100° again. This is happening despite a weak cold front moving through on Tuesday.
