Icebox Project Space transforms into a micro mall through November 15
Collective Futures is an ambitious six-week, city-wide project dedicated to the DIY artist-run spaces, organizations, and collective we know, love, don’t know, and should know. It is a celebration of an eco-system unique to Philadelphia; a network of rebels, punks, disruptors, activists, dreamers, and lovable weirdos. Activations are all over the city and at one point this October, I found myself at the Icebox Mall.
Love and Necromancy in 'The Angry Black Girl & Her Monster' And 'Birth/Rebirth'
Love is horror. It is a powerful and universal force that can inspire change, growth, or devastation and destruction. It can be a sweet dream or a never-ending violent nightmare. There are even songs about how it is sometimes both, simultaneously. Yet, we as humans have no interest in living without it no matter how many times we proclaim we do. As bell hooks states in her book All About Love, “We still hope that love will prevail.

Men & Magic: An Antidote for Toxic Patriarchy In Horror
Sitting across from Steven Broadnax III on his set, hours before the half-hour curtain call for a Saturday matinee at People’s Light Theater in Malvern, PA, I asked him about his research for his new horror play Bonez. We were recording the interview for my horror podcast, Black Women Are Scary, which celebrates BIPOC authors writing horror.

The current #1 movie on the Hulu charts can add Stephen King to its list of fans. The scribe took to Twitter to share his anxiety about this PG-13 thriller that has people sweating. What movie has people facing their fear of heights and Uncle Stephen shaking? It’s none other than Fall. According to FlixPatrol, it is still the top movie on the streamer by way of a Starz add-on. In the film, best friends Becky and Hunter find themselves at the top of a 2,000-foot radio tower.

Irish Horror Film ‘Unwelcome’ is a Jumbled and Aimless Effort
Unwelcome is an Irish folk horror film that initially shows a certain level of promise. But, it ultimately can’t overcome its pacing issues or the notion that the picture was put together by assembling a mishmash of recycled genre tropes. Unwelcome begins with a harrowing home invasion that sees newly expectant mother Maya (Hannah John-Kamen) and her partner Jamie (Douglas Booth) fighting for their lives and the life of their unborn child.
The #1 Horror Show On Hulu Last Month Should Surprise No One
If there is one thing we all love, it’s a show on a streaming service that we have a log-in for. This is why it’s no surprise that the #1 horror show on Hulu last month was The Last Of Us. That’s right! Enough of you added HBO to your Hulu plans to make this show the streamer’s winner for January and February. We assume this streak will end with the season next month.
The Number One Horror Movie On Hulu Has Fans Freaked: "You'll be yelling at the screen"
The Hulu charts are chaotic and wild, and that says a lot about the people who stream their horror movies there. This week’s random chart topper swam great lengths to claim the throne. According to Flixpatrol, The Reef: Stalked is the top-charting horror movie on Hulu proper. Meaning, it’s found on the streamer without any premium add-ons. The Film’s Synopsis After her sister’s murder, Nic, her younger sister, and two friends seek solace through a Pacific island kayaking adventure.
Dress Til' Your Dead: A Look Inside the Closets of 'Beetlejuice's Strange and Unusual Heroines [Final Girl Fashion]
Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. It’s a name that horror lovers know well, the film remaining beloved among fans of all genres since its release 35 years ago this month. However to me, Beetlejuice is not really about its namesake, that pesky, pervy “bio-exorcist” (Michael Keaton) who has no qualms about using the “recently deceased” for his own personal gain. It’s about the women who anchor the Tim Burton-directed film, each with an unforgettable style of their own.
The Number One Documentary Series On Netflix Is Disturbing Viewers: "Wealth and power can nearly cover up anything"
There are a lot of true crime fans out there. So, when Netflix proposes a series about corruption, cover-ups, and communities being torn apart, it usually does very well. This explains why Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal: Limited Series landed on Netflix with a boom two weeks ago. It is holding on to the #5 spot on the TV (English) Chart. That makes it the number one documentary across the entire streamer.

Barbara Crampton and Andrew Bowser Unearth 'Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls' [Video]
|
One of the most outrageous selections at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival was Andrew Bowser’s Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls. A zany, heartfelt love letter to adventure-fantasy, this midnight movie is a genre fan’s dream. Did I mention it features Barbara Crampton AND Jeffrey Combs? A Re-Animator reunion was not on my 2023 bingo card, so count me down as grateful.

The Complicated Representation Of Black Immortal Bodies
As a Black woman, the idea of Black invincible bodies is both thrilling and terrifying. In my day-to-day life, I’m always asserting my humanity while also putting up a brave front. As people on social media rally for me to be my “authentic self,” I usually don’t have that luxury. I am not safe and I’m constantly discerning when I need to fly under the radar of people’s assumptions. I’m not special. Black women and Black people have been doing this since our capture.
