6 Tips for Transferring Ph.D. Programs Successfully
Feel that your Ph.D. program is not the right fit? You are not alone. Completing a Ph.D. is a difficult experience, as research suggests that only about 57 percent of doctoral students in the United States and Canada complete their Ph.D. within 10 years. People leave for all sorts of reasons—but if your program is a poor fit, then you have options. One option that is rarely discussed is transferring.
Redirection of SARS-CoV-2 to phagocytes by intranasal sACE2-Fc as a universal decoy confers complete prophylactic protection
eLife Assessment This manuscript presents a valuable antiviral approach using an engineered ACE2-Fc fusion protein that demonstrates broad-spectrum neutralization capacity against SARS-CoV-2 variants and achieves significant prophylactic protection in animal models through a novel Fc-mediated phagocytosis mechanism.
Redirection of SARS-CoV-2 to Phagocytes by Intranasal sACE2-Fc as a Universal Decoy Confers Complete Prophylactic Protection
Abstract The rapid evolution of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory RNA viruses limits the success of current vaccines and antibody-based therapies. Engineered decoy receptors based on soluble angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (sACE2) offer promising alternatives. Clinical-grade recombinant sACE2 inhibits SARS-CoV-2 replication in vitro but shows limited clinical success.

Building your legal team*
I am a perspective buy-and-hold investor in the Seattle area with ambitions of building a sizable rental portfolio. However, as someone new to the game and trying to do his due diligence and real estate education first, I would like to ask experienced landlords how they went about building their team on the legal side of things?
Seattle Contractor Needed

SFR conversion into duplex?
Hi BP friends. I have an idea to throw out there and get some feedback on. I am in the Tacoma / Puyallup Washington market and we are facing a rental shortage in my area. Rents seem to be moving up apartment complexes are taking deposits just to get on a waiting list. Anything that becomes available is usually gone within 24 to 48 hours. My idea is to buy a small single-family house in the $150k to $200k range and add a duplex on it. Most of these houses are about 900sqft.
A Phase Separation‐Assisted Pre‐Enrichment Method for Ultrasensitive Respiratory Virus Detection (Adv. Sci. 36/2025)
Graphical Abstract Ultrasensitive Respiratory Virus Detection Phase separation-assisted pre-enrichment (PSAP) leverages tunable polymer interactions to concurrently concentrate antigens (47×) and RNA (44×). Optimized for direct use with commercial assays, PSAP enhances rapid test sensitivity, lowering detection limits 10-fold for SARS-CoV-2 and 5-fold for Influenza.

A Phase Separation‐Assisted Pre‐Enrichment Method for Ultrasensitive Respiratory Virus Detection
1 Introduction Efficient enrichment of trace biomarkers – including proteins, nucleic acids, and metabolites – constitutes a cornerstone of precise detection.[1, 2] While conventional enrichment techniques (e.g., filtration,[3] magnetic separation,[4] solvent evaporation[5]) have enabled biomarker analysis in controlled laboratory settings, their clinical utility and compatibility remain constrained by inherent limitations.[6] Most existing methods demonstrate biomarker-specific efficacy...

Concurrent oxygen evolution reaction pathways revealed by high-speed compressive Raman imaging - Nature Communications
Abstract Transition metal oxides are state-of-the-art materials for catalysing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), whose slow kinetics currently limit the efficiency of water electrolysis. However, microscale physicochemical heterogeneity between particles, dynamic reactions both in the bulk and at the surface, and an interplay between particle reactivity and electrolyte makes probing the OER challenging.

Quantifying Efficiency in Ridesharing Marketplaces
by Alex Chin and Tony Qin The health of Lyft's marketplace depends on how riders and drivers are distributed across space and time. Within the complex rideshare space, it is not easy to define typical marketplace concepts like "market efficiency" and "supply-demand balance". A simple question such as "Do we have enough drivers right now?" has different answers depending on context: Are there enough drivers in the right places to maintain good service levels?
Highlights • The majority of adult and fetal ECs rarely express surface ACE2 • ACE2 is dispensable for SARS-CoV-2-mediated endothelial activation • SARS-CoV-2 directly induces endothelial inflammation through TLR4 activation • ScRNA-seq reveals TLR4 pathway activation in circulating ECs of COVID-19 patients Summary To date, the direct causative mechanism of SARS-CoV-2-induced endotheliitis remains unclear.

Tensor network simulation of multi-environmental open quantum dynamics via machine learning and entanglement renormalisation
Abstract The simulation of open quantum dynamics is a critical tool for understanding how the non-classical properties of matter might be functionalised in future devices. However, unlocking the enormous potential of molecular quantum processes is highly challenging due to the very strong and non-Markovian coupling of ‘environmental’ molecular vibrations to the electronic ‘system’ degrees of freedom.
Utility of serum IGF-1 for diagnosis of growth hormone deficiency following traumatic brain injury and sport-related concussion
Our results demonstrate that baseline serum IGF-1 level had no value in predicting GH deficiency, emphasizing the need for dynamic testing in this population. These findings contradict those of Zgaljardic et al. [7] There are several differences between our respective studies that may account for this. Our study includes an older patient population, and the majority of our subjects (48/62) sustained mild TBI, while the previous paper only included patients with moderate and severe TBI.
Entanglement at heart of '2-for-1' fission in next-generation solar cells
An international team of scientists have observed how a mysterious quantum phenomenon in organic molecules takes place in real time, which could aid in the development of highly efficient solar cells. The researchers, led by the University of Cambridge, used ultrafast laser pulses to observe how a single particle of light, or photon, can be converted into two energetically excited particles, known as spin-triplet excitons, through a process called singlet fission.
Lack of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Transmission from Infected Camels
Cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in humans continue to be reported from the Arabian Peninsula and the Middle East. The largest number of cases has been reported by Saudia Arabia: 818 cases leading to 351 deaths as of December 5, 2014 (1). The causative agent is MERS coronavirus (MERS-CoV), which is endemic to and ubiquitous among dromedary camels in the Arabian Peninsula and East and North Africa; seroprevalence among adult animals is typically >90% (2).
