When people ask me what I do, I say: I'm a journalist. Other pretty words like "storyteller" or "documentarian" might follow, but "journalist" is usually enough to start the conversation.
The answer always makes folks pause or raise an eyebrow; the reaction is a reminder of the responsibility a journalist has -- to be truthful, factual, never satisfied, always on the look-out for a good story (presenting it in whatever format the audience wants).
I learned those values at Howard University, and the growth continues.
