The answer always makes folks pause or raise an eyebrow; the reaction is a reminder of the responsibility a journalist has -- to be truthful, factual, never satisfied, always on the look-out for a good story (presenting it in whatever format the audience wants).

“Look what I just drew.” My daughter walked into my room holding her iPad. She was 10. Until that afternoon, her drawings hadn’t been particularly remarkable. Rectangle houses with triangle roofs and stick-figure families standing beside them, that kind of thing. What she turned toward me now was an apple. Rendered in loose, confident brushwork, light catching the curve of it, a shadow pooling beneath, it was the kind of drawing I’d have expected from someone who had been studying for years.
