Bioinspired electrochemical artificial muscles with low voltage redox triggering and spontaneous contraction
Abstract Skeletal muscle operates through a mechanism in which calcium ions act as a trigger at low electric potentials, followed by contraction powered by adenosine triphosphate hydrolysis. Inspired by this process, we have developed an electrochemical artificial muscle with low-voltage redox triggering and spontaneous contraction. Triggering is achieved by electrochemically charging the muscles at voltages below 0.4 V, which enables I3⁻ injection and subsequent oxidation to I2.
Chronic exposure to LED lighting impairs prefrontal cortex-dependent cognitive functions in adolescent rats
Abstract The Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have already replaced conventional lighting sources due to their energy efficiency and environmental benefits. Although previous studies suggest that chronic exposure to LED may affect human physiological health, its impact on cognitive functions remains unclear. To simulate typical human lighting conditions, we established an animal model which Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats exposed to LED light daily from 18:00 to 22:00 (ZT12-ZT16) for one month.

Abstract Purpose: To characterize optical coherence tomography (OCT) features of vitreoretinal lymphoma (VRL) at baseline, identify features associated with visual prognosis, and describe longitudinal OCT changes following intravitreal methotrexate (IVT-MTX) treatment. Design: Retrospective, single-center, observational study. Methods: Consecutive biopsy-proven VRL cases were included.
Hypoactivity, abnormal development of dendrites relevant to impaired synaptic transmission of calretinin-expressing interneurons in the medial prefrontal cortex underlies social deficits of mouse model in autism
Abstract Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by core symptoms including impairments in social behavior and communication. The impaired excitatory and inhibitory signals have been implicated in the pathophysiology of social behavior deficits. Altered calretinin (CR)-containing GABAergic interneurons have been observed in ASD, but their roles and underlying mechanisms remain unveiled.
mTOR-driven autophagy–inflammation crosstalk underlies schizophrenia pathophysiology
Abstract Schizophrenia (SZ) is characterized by immune dysregulation and decreased autophagy. However, the mechanistic interplay between these two processes remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the relationship between autophagy and inflammation in SZ patients and a maternal immune activation (MIA)-induced SZ mouse model.
Increased spread of global flash droughts threatens vegetation productivity resilience
Abstract Flash drought (faster-developing drought) has been pervasively intensified, posing detrimental constraints on vegetation productivity. However, the potential expansion of flash droughts from flash drought hotspots to non-hotspots and its associated risks to vegetation productivity remain unknown. Furthermore, the divergence in the underlying drivers governing vegetation productivity responses to flash and slow droughts (slower-developing droughts) is unclear.

Predictive value of carotid artery contrast-enhanced ultrasound combined with clinical indicators in ischemic stroke patients
Introduction Stroke is a global health burden that jeopardizes human wellbeing and stands as the leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide (1). It is typically characterized by acute focal damage to the central nervous system caused by vascular causes, followed by neurological deficits. Stroke is broadly categorized into ischemic stroke (IS) and hemorrhagic stroke, with IS being the most prevalent form (2).

Full article: The Role of Plasma Metabolites in Mediating the Effect of Gut Microbiota on Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Two-Step, Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Study
Abstract Background Recent research has increasingly underscored a significant correlation between gut microbiota and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Probiotics have emerged as promising adjunctive interventions for OSA. Metabolites and their related biochemical pathways have emerged as important contributors to the development of OSA. This study aimed to estimate the causal association between gut microbiota and OSA and to quantify the mediating effects of metabolites.
Impact of TRMT6 on prognosis and immune microenvironment in ovarian cancer
1 Introduction Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the three major gynecological malignancies and the leading cause of death from gynecological tumors (1, 2). It is estimated that in 2025, there will be approximately 20,890 new cases of OC and about 12,730 deaths in the United States (3). In addition to the challenges posed by drug resistance and the absence of individualized targeted therapies, moreover, the heterogeneity of ovarian tumors complicates treatment outcomes.

Targeted LNPs deliver mRNA encoding IL-15 superagonists to balance efficacy and toxicity in cancer therapy
Abstract Interleukin-15 (IL-15) emerges as a promising immunotherapeutic candidate in oncology because of its pivotal role in modulating both innate and adaptive immunity. However, the therapeutic utility remains concern due to the unexpected toxicity. We propose here that the mRNA lipid nanoparticle (mRNA-LNP) system can balance the issue through targeted delivery to increase IL-15 concentration in the tumor area and reduce leakage into the circulation.

First identification of canine adenovirus 1 in mink and bioinformatics analysis of its 100 K protein
Introduction Canine adenovirus type 1 (CAdV-1) can cause systemic and potentially fatal viral diseases in domestic dogs and wildlife (Mira et al., 2022). CAdV-1 can cause infectious hepatitis in dogs. Clinical symptoms include tonsillitis, vasculitis, and bladder edema (Decaro et al., 2007; Hornsey et al., 2019). Mink, as a representative animal, is widely distributed and plays a crucial role in the transmission of various viral diseases (Oude Munnink et al., 2021).
