Modular EMI AC Line Filters
Figure 1: This typical modular EMI filter uses the CX capacitors to attenuate differential mode noise and an inductor-capacitor combination to reduce common mode noise. Capacitor CX attenuates differential mode noise, signals, and spikes that appear from line to neutral created by rapid changes in current within the converter. Capacitors will be rated as X1, X2, or X3 for their ability to withstand voltage transients on the AC line.

Is Your Medical Device RoHS Compliant?
By 22 July 2014 all medical devices must be compliant to the RoHS II legislative Directive (2011/65/EU). The key question is, are you ready? It may feel like the deadline crept up rather fast for some, but we’ve known since July 2011 when RoHS II was published. There has been plenty of time, but if you’ve only just started (or worse, done nothing) , it may not be as bad as you first thought.
Electrolytic capacitor lifetime in power supplies
The service life of these electrolytic capacitors is an increasingly key design parameter in power supplies Electrolytic capacitors are an essential ingredient in AC/DC power supplies, providing high Capacitance x Voltage (CV) and low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) in low-volume packages that simply cannot be achieved cost-effectively using alternative parts.
Standard High-Voltage Modules Save Time, Space and Money
System power designers specifying high-voltage power supplies have three basic options: (i) specify, manage and procure a custom supply from a third-party supplier; (ii) design, manage and manufacture either in-house or via a contract manufacturer; or (iii) the option that allows them to build a high voltage power supply without having to deal directly with the many challenges unique to high voltage design by using standard building block parts selected to meet the system power demands.
Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - How EN 60335 Compares
EN 60335 Part 1 defines how household and similar electrical appliances can meet the overall requirements of the ‘Low Voltage Directive’ and other legislation When designing to meet the requirements of EN 60335, engineers have to adopt a different mind-set.
