Extensive pneumocephalus in a fatal central nervous system infection caused by NDM-1–producing carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae : a case report
Abstract Background: Central nervous system (CNS) infections caused by New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1 (NDM-1)-producing carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) are rare but associated with extremely high mortality because of extensive antimicrobial resistance and poor blood–brain barrier (BBB) penetration. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no published reports of pneumocephalus associated with infection caused by NDM-1-producing K. pneumoniae.
An interpretable machine learning model for preoperative risk stratification of testicular viability in pediatric testicular torsion: A multicenter study
Abstract Preoperative prediction of testicular viability in pediatric testicular torsion remains challenging, with current assessment largely dependent on symptom duration and intraoperative judgment. This multicenter study aimed to develop and externally validate an interpretable machine learning model using routinely available hematological parameters. Pediatric patients with surgically confirmed testicular torsion were enrolled from three tertiary hospitals.
Mechano-optically co-designed highly-scalable silicon photonic MEMS switches with quasi-buckling-free 2 × 2 horizontal adiabatic directional couplers
Abstract Micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) photonic switches based on adiabatic directional couplers (ADCs) potentially offer the advantages including large fabrication tolerance and broad bandwidth, which is essential for large-scale reconfigurable photonic integrated circuits in optical networks and artificial intelligence computing infrastructures.
Genomic insights into the improvement of Chinese fir from ancient domestication continuum to modern breeding
Abstract Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) is a cornerstone timber species in China. It has been cultivated for millennia and introduced globally. Here, we present a high-quality chromosome-scale reference genome, revealing a recent burst of transposable elements during the Pliocene. While no whole-genome duplications are observed, tandem and proximal gene duplications expand families linked to environmental adaptation.
Effects of non-thermal plasma on disinfection of indoor air and reduction of particulate matter
Abstract Indoor airborne microorganisms and particulate matter (PM) are associated with respiratory infections and non-communicable diseases, posing a significant public health concern. This study evaluated the effectiveness of non-thermal plasma (NTP) for air disinfection and PM removal under real-world conditions. Chamber experiments were conducted using air artificially contaminated with PM, and reduction rates were compared between NTP and control groups.
Aesthetic modular source and carbon potential as mathematical foundations for architectural AIGC design
Abstract Most architects rely on aesthetic intuition, often neglecting the mathematical foundations that underlie aesthetic judgement in design. This study addresses this gap by proposing a mathematical framework that supports both aesthetic excellence and low-carbon performance in architecture. The first contribution is to identify the essence of modular aesthetics as rooted in classical mathematical constructs—ratio, sequence, and spiral.

A synergistic multi-omics approach: causal sepsis drivers identified in activated CD4 + T cells by single-cell RNA sequencing and Mendelian randomization
Abstract Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening, heterogeneous syndrome with high mortality. This heterogeneity undermines current “one-size-fits-all” therapies and conventional biomarkers (e.g., PCT) lack prognostic power. A critical need exists to identify patient-specific endotypes and causal-driven therapeutic targets. Methods: We employed a synergistic multi-omics strategy to identify causal drivers of sepsis.
Observation of Near‐Infrared Photothermal and Photoacoustic Effects in a Metallosupramolecular Trefoil Knot

Mitochondrial Regulation of CD8⁺ T Cells: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Modulation
1 Introduction CD8+ T cells are critical mediators of immune responses, playing a pivotal role in the defense against infections, the surveillance of tumorigenesis, and the regulation of autoimmune diseases.[1, 2] These cytotoxic lymphocytes exert their functions through the recognition and elimination of infected or malignant cells, primarily by inducing apoptosis via the release of cytotoxic molecules such as perforin and granzymes[3] The effectiveness of CD8+ T cells in these processes is...

Hotel California (Translation)
“Hey, Isa.” “Hey.” “I want to listen to Hotel California.” The prelude echoes in the car. The auto-piloting vehicle carries me along the street flanked by skyscrapers. The street, rather than a product shaped by human hands, is more evocative of a space carved out by the towering buildings’ merciful turn to the side. It is as if a pantheon of gods has shifted their feet to leave a narrow passage for men and cars to crawl through, out of sympathy for these ants.

Influence of Soil Plugging on Dynamic Soil Response During Simulated Pipe Pile Driving Model Test in Sands
1. Introduction The widespread adoption of pile foundations is due to their great bearing capacity, high quality, and low cost. In addition to serving as the foundation for sustaining superstructures in urban areas, piles are also widely employed in anti-floating [1] and landslide prevention [2,3]. So far, many studies have contributed to the field of piles, such as the prediction of pile settlement performance under different loads [4] and the response of piles to different types of loads [5,6].

Post‐Translational Modifications of RNA‐Modifying Proteins in Cellular Dynamics and Disease Progression
1 Introduction RNA modifications act as a sophisticated regulatory mechanism that influences gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Key players in this process are RNA-modifying proteins, which function as “writers,” “erasers,” and “readers”—adding, removing, or interpreting chemical groups on RNA to control its functionality, stability, and interactions with other molecules.
Epigenetic Reprogramming Potentiates ICAM1 Antibody Drug Conjugates in Preclinical Models of Melanoma
1 Introduction Melanoma is the most aggressive and deadly type of skin cancers, accounting for over 80% of skin cancer deaths despite representing only 1% of skin cancers.[1] Patients with advanced or metastatic melanoma have limited treatment options after tumor progression on immune-checkpoint therapy and targeted therapy including v-RAF murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 (BRAF)/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MEK) inhibitors.
Establishing a course to train ICU nurses on prone position mechanical ventilation: A Delphi study
1 INTRODUCTION Mechanical ventilation (MV) is a type of ventilation mode that provides respiratory support for patients with respiratory dysfunction. It uses a ventilator mechanical device to establish the principle of pressure difference between the air passage and the alveoli and replaces, regulates, or changes the abnormal spontaneous respiratory movement. It also helps patients to restore effective ventilation and improve oxygenation (Cronin et al., 2022).

Epitranscriptomic modifications in mesenchymal stem cell differentiation: advances, mechanistic insights, and beyond - Cell Death & Differentiation
Abstract RNA modifications, known as the “epitranscriptome”, represent a key layer of regulation that influences a wide array of biological processes in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). These modifications, catalyzed by specific enzymes, often termed “writers”, “readers”, and “erasers”, can dynamically alter the MSCs’ transcriptomic landscape, thereby modulating cell differentiation, proliferation, and responses to environmental cues.
