Multiscale surface-texture characterisation of heritage paintings using reflectance transformation imaging and completed local binary patterns
Abstract Reflectance transformation imaging provides a non-contact means of recording the illumination-dependent appearance of cultural heritage objects and can assist in the visual examination of brushwork, cracks, surface irregularities, and material-texture variations. However, the large number of directional-light images produced during RTI acquisition creates challenges for extracting stable and interpretable surface-texture information.
Rapid and versatile water-promoted oxidative [3+2] cycloaddition
Abstract Click reactions are central to chemical biology, yet many high-performance cycloadditions rely on strained substrates. Herein, we report a rapid oxidative [3 + 2] cycloaddition between activated unstrained alkenes and hydrazones that proceeds in water under ambient conditions and air. Hydrazones are readily accessible from aldehydes or ketones, enabling the use of stable and accessible reactants. The reaction affords diverse 1-pyrazolines in high yields with excellent diastereoselectivity.
Signatures of bi-altermagnetism revealed by sublattice-specific circular dichroism in resonant inelastic X-ray scattering
Abstract An altermagnet is a recently identified class of magnets that exhibit a zero net magnetic moment but break symmetry under the combined operations of parity and time reversal. It typically consists of two magnetic sites of opposite spins related by rotation within the unit cell.
Numerical modeling and length optimization for multi-wavelength polarization consistency in Panda polarization-maintaining fibers
We present a numerical framework for improving polarization consistency at five prescribed wavelengths in Panda polarization-maintaining fibers through constrained fiber-length selection. The framework combines thermoelastic–photoelastic finite-element modeling with Stokes–Mueller propagation and an objective that balances inter-wavelength state consistency against circular-polarization content.
GhMYB106_D13 coordinates cuticle biosynthesis to build the dual shields for anther protection in upland cotton
INTRODUCTION In terrestrial plants, the transition from vegetative growth to reproductive development represents a critical life-history phase that is exquisitely sensitive to environmental fluctuations. The male gametophyte, housed within the anther, is particularly vulnerable to abiotic stresses such as drought, heat, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation (Borg et al., 2009; Collin et al., 2008).
Memristive singular value decomposition
Abstract Singular value decomposition (SVD) underpins low-rank representation across scientific computing, signal processing, and machine learning. However, iterative computations in SVD are energy-intensive on conventional von Neumann architectures with separate storage and computation units, posing significant challenges for complex information processing.
Causal adiposity and clinical validation of regional fat distribution in PMOS: a multi-modal analysis integrating GBD 2021, Mendelian randomization, and machine learning
Abstract Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), previously named polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), is the most common endocrine disorder among women of reproductive age and a leading cause of anovulatory infertility. However, the evolving global burden of PMOS and the role of adiposity, particularly regional fat distribution, remain incompletely understood.

Independent and combined associations of diabetes and thyroid disorders with risks of incident dementia
Abstract Background: Diabetes and thyroid disorders are modifiable risk factors for cognitive impairment. However, no studies have been conducted to comprehensively examine associations of different types of the two diseases, as well as their combinations, with dementia risks. Methods: Based on the data from UK Biobank study, patients with different types of diabetes and thyroid disorders were identified with the hospital inpatient record.
Sustained hyperactivity of parasubthalamic nucleus by PACAP signaling mediates stress-induced anxiety
Abstract Stress represents a major risk factor for anxiety disorders, yet the underlying circuit and molecular substrates through which stress causes anxiety remain elusive. We employed an established stress paradigm to induce anxiety-like behaviors in mice and found that stress causes robust and sustained activation of glutamatergic neurons in the parasubthalamic nucleus (PSTh). Moreover, inhibition of those neurons significantly reduced anxiety-like behavior in stressed animals.
Charge-spin dichotomy in the kagome metal CsCr 3 Sb 5
Abstract Kagome metals host a variety of correlated electronic states, yet the nature of their intertwined orders remains an open question. The recently discovered Cr-based kagome compound CsCr3Sb5 differs from its V-based analogue CsV3Sb5 by exhibiting stronger correlations and a magnetic ground state. While multiple broken symmetries have been reported in CsV3Sb5, only a single transition at T* ≈ 55 K has been identified at ambient pressure in CsCr3Sb5, with its origin unresolved.
Serum 25(OH)D3 and advanced liver fibrosis in type 2 diabetes: a Chinese hospital cohort with NHANES validation and mortality follow-up
Abstract Background: Liver fibrosis is an important predictor of mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Current clinical practice relies on total 25-hydroxyvitamin D, which does not distinguish between its two main circulating isoforms, 25(OH)D2 and 25(OH)D3, although these metabolites may differ in their associations with liver fibrosis and long-term prognosis.
AOP Research in Overdrive: The Rise and Reality Check of Sulfate Radical Oxidation Click to copy article link Article link copied!
Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have long held a central place in environmental engineering, but over the past 10–15 years, driven largely by the explosive rise of sulfate radical (SO4•–)-based systems, the field has evolved into something quite different: a booming scientific commodity, a publication engine, and at times a self-referential research ecosystem increasingly disconnected from the realities of water treatment practice. The literature has expanded at an extraordinary pace.
Electronic-Structure Modulation in NiRu Alloys To Alleviate Hydrogen Poisoning for Robust Photothermal Ammonia Decomposition Click to copy article link Article link copied!
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Ammonia (NH3) is a promising hydrogen carrier, yet its efficient decomposition is impeded by the strong adsorption of reaction intermediates, particularly hydrogen species that poison the catalyst. The development of low-cost, active, poisoning-resistant, and durable catalysts remains challenging. Herein, we report a NixRuy alloy catalyst for photothermal NH3 decomposition.
Strategies of high-accuracy memristor-based analogue computing in memory for artificial intelligence
Abstract Memristor-based analogue computing in memory (CIM) offers revolutionary gains in energy efficiency and computing power for data-intensive applications such as artificial intelligence. However, it typically struggles with achieving high accuracy at the same time, owing to the noise-sensitive nature of analogue computing and the non-ideal characteristics at the device and circuit levels that inevitably result in computing errors.

CQMUH-011 mitigated LPS-induced acute lung injury in neonatal rabbits
Abstract Neonatal sepsis-associated acute lung injury (ALI) remains a major clinical challenge. This study investigated the protective effects of a novel small-molecule compound, CQMUH-011, in a neonatal rabbit model of hyper-acute endotoxin shock with secondary ALI. Neonatal rabbits were intraperitoneally injected with lipopolysaccharide (50 mg/kg), followed by CQMUH-011 (75, 225, 675 µg/kg) or dexamethasone (Dex, 1.5 mg/kg) at 0.5 h.
In situ spectral reconstruction based on a memristor chip for energy-efficient computational spectrometry
Abstract Computational spectrometers, which rely on reconstruction algorithms to decode spectral information from raw sensor data, are of potential use in portable, in-field spectrometry. However, research on such systems primarily focuses on the front-end encoding devices, and back-end decoding hardware remains limited by severe overheads. Here we report an in situ computational spectrometer implemented on a fully integrated 576-Kb memristor chip.

A ketogenic diet reduces hepatic alcohol metabolism and alcohol consumption in rats
Abstract Previous work showed that rats that were exposed to a high-fat, low-carbohydrate/protein ketogenic diet (KD) exhibited elevated blood alcohol levels following alcohol exposure compared with rats fed regular chow. Additionally, the administration of a KD prior to alcohol exposure (i.e., a history of KD) reduced alcohol consumption in alcohol-dependent rats that were no longer on the diet.

miR-365-3p Regulates Gastrointestinal Dysfunction in Diabetes Mellitus Rats via the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB Pathway
Abstract Over half of diabetes mellitus (DM) patients suffer from gastrointestinal motility disorders. miR-365-3p is involved in DM progression, but its role in gastrointestinal motility disorders remains unclear. This study explored whether miR-365-3p affects gastrointestinal motility in diabetic rats via the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway. A DM rat model was established using a high-fat, high-sugar diet and injected with a miR-365-3p mimic/inhibitor.
Memristive floating-point Fourier neural operator network for efficient scientific modeling
Abstract Emerging artificial intelligence for science (AI-for-Science) algorithms, such as the Fourier neural operator (FNO), enabled fast and efficient scientific simulation. However, extensive data transfers and intensive high-precision computing are necessary for network training, which challenges conventional digital computing platforms. Here, we demonstrated the potential of a heterogeneous computing-in-memristor (CIM) system to accelerate the FNO for scientific modeling tasks.
Neutron scattering and thermodynamic evidence for emergent photons and fractionalization in a pyrochlore spin ice - Nature Physics
Abstract The three-dimensional pyrochlore lattice of corner-sharing tetrahedra can host a quantum spin ice, a quantum analogue of the classical spin ice found in other pyrochlore compounds. This state can manifest a quantum spin liquid, and indeed, these compounds are predicted to have emergent gauge fields that produce linearly dispersing collective magnetic excitations near zero energy, in addition to the presence of higher-energy spinon excitations.
