Concerns are rising among Americans as data centers, housing AI technology, are expanding in Southeast Texas communities, leading to noise disturbances and environmental worries. The rise in data centers in Texas, with 429 in total as of February, is attributed to the growth of artificial intelligence, bringing promises of job creation and tax benefits but also raising concerns about water usage, power consumption, and noise pollution in rural areas.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Recent studies show that about 3 of every 4 Americans are concerned about the increased use of AI. As data centers grow across Southeast Texas, communities are now coming face to face with this technology of the future. "I would describe it as having something that's so peaceful to you taken away," Melissa Burnett, who lives near a data center, said. The Burnetts said what was once a quaint and quiet backyard is now met with constant noise.

Chaz Miller, Brianna Willis Tue, June 9, 2026 at 12:22 AM UTC The man accused of going through a TSA checkpoint with a fake boarding pass and getting on a United Airlines plane at Bush Airport last month appeared before a judge on Monday. The attorney for 25-year-old suspect Abdulrahman Oriyomi told ABC13 it was essentially a misunderstanding, saying his client thought he was getting a cheap airline ticket, not a fake one.
