Haskins needs all the snaps he can get in preseason
It is said that you either win or learn in life, and the Washington Redskins have plenty to learn after a chaotic first preseason game. That’s to be expected. With most of his Week 1 starters riding the pine, Jay Gruden’s vanilla offense looked half-melted. It was an appropriate setting for a first, long look at franchise savior-in-waiting Dwayne Haskins. The rookie entered in relief of Case Keenum and finished the day 8-for-14 with 117 yards.

Training Camp Notebook: Skins offense struggles for second straight day
Breaking News RICHMOND – The Redskins practiced again on a muggy Richmond Sunday, with the defense again taking the day. QB Battle – It was an ugly, ugly day for all three quarterbacks culminating in a poor two-minute drill. Case Keenum and Colt McCoy both got intercepted. McCoy was picked off by Landon Collins across the middle while Keenum’s interception came on a full disaster of a play. He chose to run on a play following a spike, meaning they needed to hurry up again.
Training Camp Notebook: Tempers flare as intensity increases
RICHMOND – Tempers flared for the second day at Redskins practice, causing something we haven’t seen before from Jay Gruden. The rumor mill heated up after. Here’s why and what else happened. Allen/Moses Get Heated – Fights happen in NFL football practices, but the intensity of the argument between Morgan Moses and Jon Allen Wednesday was hot. Adrian Peterson impresses in Redskins debut vs. Broncos
LANDOVER, Md. — Adrian Peterson didn't mind a healthy diet of action in the preseason 12 years into an NFL career that hasn't included much exhibition work. "So many years I begged to play in the preseason and was shut down," Peterson said.
Adrian Peterson ready for his next move with Redskins
WASHINGTON — Adrian Peterson believes he still has something left. The 33-year-old running back had his first practice with the Redskins on Tuesday, a day after signing a one-year deal with Washington. "I can give a lot. I really believe that," Peterson said following his first practice. "I feel like the sky is the limit." Injuries and opportunity limited Peterson to 13 games over the past two seasons. He averaged 3.4 yards per carry in 10 games last season with the Saints and Cardinals.
2018 NFL Injury Report: August 21
We are halfway done with the preseason which means we are that much closer to kickoff of the regular season. Because injuries are so prevalent and vague in terms of expected length of absences, it is always better to schedule your league’s draft as close to the beginning of the season as possible. Each week of the preseason brings more chaos and drama in terms of injuries, so this will likely wreak havoc on your draft strategy and decision-making.
Jets' Darnold looks like rookie in 15-13 loss to Redskins
LANDOVER, Md. — Limited playing experience in high school and college makes Sam Darnold appreciate every game, even if it's just the preseason. The third overall pick made his first exhibition start for the New York Jets on Thursday night and showed some of the growing pains of a rookie quarterback by throwing an interception , taking two sacks and having a couple of balls batted out of the air.
Dustin Hopkins’ leg soars Redskins past Jets for first preseason win
LANDOVER, Md. – Kickers don’t get much shine during training camp practices. During the Redskins preseason opener, their leg, Dustin Hopkins got plenty of work. The fifth-year veteran knocked in five field goals to lift the Redskins past the New York Jets Thursday night. Alex Smith’s debut in the burgundy & gold was a short one, going 4-for-6 for 48 yards. On his first snap, Smith took a hit high from Jordan Jenkins, resulting in a roughing the passer penalty.
Patriots notebook: Brian Hoyer sputters in preseason debut
FOXBORO — As expected, Tom Brady took in the Patriots’ preseason opener from a nice, comfy seat on the bench. Without Brady and Rob Gronkowski in the lineup last night, the Patriots’ starting offense sputtered against the Redskins, failing to cross midfield until four seconds remained in the first half. Fortunately, the backups picked up the slack, erasing a 17-0 deficit to pull out a 26-17 win at Gillette Stadium. Overall, Brian Hoyer looked out of sorts.
NFL1000: Ranking the Top Running Backs of 2017 Season
As has been the case with most NFL skill positions over the last 15-20 years, the role of the running back has changed drastically in the new millennium. Once upon a time, if a back carried the ball more than 350 times a season, was a decent receiving threat on simple screens and was OK as a blocker, that was enough as long as that back was productive with his carries. Now, the paradigm has changed. Backs with over 300 carries in a season are rare.
Jordan Reed of Washington Redskins put on IR

McCown starts, has injury scare in Jets' win over Eagles - WTOP
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Josh McCown had the wind knocked out of him, and the New York Jets could only hold their breath. The 38-year-old quarterback was OK after getting the start — and a big scare — in the preseason finale as the Jets held on to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 16-10 on Thursday night. “Thankfully, it wasn’t anything serious,” McCown said.
Darby has impressive debut, Eagles beat Bills 20-16
PHILADELPHIA — Of all the high-profile players making debuts in a new uniform, Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby was most impressive. Darby intercepted former teammate Tyrod Taylor's pass and returned it 48 yards and also broke up two passes in his first game since Philadelphia acquired him from Buffalo last week, and the Eagles beat the Bills 20-16 on Thursday night. "They were running a lot of routes that looked similar, so I was being patient with everything and cutting them off," Darby said.
Practice Notes: Nelson Agholor's Final-Play TD Bowls Offense Over
The Eagles held their second of three live-hitting practices on Thursday. Here's our notes and observations from a long, hot morning in South Philadelphia. On the final play of the entire practice, quarterback hit wide receiver for a 30-yard touchdown down the left sideline beating rookie cornerback . Wide receiver and Wentz raced to the end zone and got the offense together. Agholor stood off to the sideline and held the football, while the rest of the offensive players lined up as bowling pins.
Doug Pederson: Young Linemen Paved Way For Barbre Trade
All 89 Eagles players trotted out onto the fields at NovaCare Complex on Thursday afternoon for the first full-team practice. Head coach Doug Pederson expressed his overall enthusiasm in having his players available for the first week of Training Camp. Pederson also briefed the media on the departures of guard Allen Barbre, who was traded to the Denver Broncos for a conditional pick in 2019, and the release of defensive end Marcus Smith.
10 Things To Watch During Eagles Training Camp
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports It's time. Training Camp begins Monday morning, with rookies, quarterbacks, and selected veterans reporting to South Philadelphia. The first full practice takes place Thursday afternoon. I'm excited to see what this year's team will be like. There's plenty of changes from 2016, and Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz already have a year under their belt. Here's what I'm looking for during the preseason: We might as well begin with Wentz in Year 2.
Eagles-Cowboys predictions
1. How will the Eagles offense do? Jeff McLane: Doug Pederson would love to end the year on a positive note as it relates to his offense, but it doesn’t help that the Eagles are hurting at several spots. They’re down to just Darren Sproles and Byron Marshall at running back and receiver Jordan Matthews has yet to practice this week. The Eagles should have their starting offensive line intact now that left guard Allen Barbre (hamstring) is back, but I would prefer to see more of rookie Isaac Seumalo.
Eagles 2016 practice squad: Meet the first 5 members
The Eagles, like many other NFL teams were especially active Sunday maneuvering several spots on the 53-man roster after Saturday's initial round of cuts. After making several moves, the Eagles practice squad currently stands at 10, with three positions yet to be filled.
After trading Bradford, Eagles cut 21 players
PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles traded Sam Bradford and released 21 players to reach the 53-man roster limit Saturday. Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, 2014 Pro Bowl kicker Cody Parkey, safety Ed Reynolds and linebacker Najee Goode were among the cuts. Philadelphia only has four linebackers on the roster, so it's likely the team will make more moves.
Eagles Talk: It's pins and needles for bubble players
The Eagles defeated the New York Jets 14-6 in their preseason finale Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Lincoln Financial Field. Now it's decision time for the Birds, as the roster has to be trimmed from 75 to 53 by Saturday afternoon.
Grayson's Grades: Eagles vs. Jets
PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Eagles finished the preseason undefeated following a 14-6 win over the New York Jets. The final preseason game is used as one last opportunity for numerous players to convince the coaching staff they deserve a spot on the 53 man roster. As a result, few starters play in this game. Months of hard work come down to this last audition before the roster is cut one last time. The latest edition of Grayson’s Grades features many of those players on the cut bubble.
Players on Eagles roster bubble make final stands in win over Jets
Marcus Smith did too, along with Blake Countess and Byron Marshall. Starting linebacker Mychal Kendricks was able to make up for some lost time with a very active presence, and wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham followed up his Philadelphia Eagles debut with an even more powerful presence Thursday night as the Eagles finished their preseason with a 14-6 triumph over the New York Jets.
Eagles resign RB Cedric O'Neal, roster now at 74
O'Neal was waived by the Eagles last week. The Eagles likely resigned O'Neal due to lack of depth at running back prior to Thursday night's preseason finale vs. the New York Jets. Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles likely won't see any touches and Wendell Smallwood is currently out with a concussion. Kenjon Barner won't play too many snaps leaving Byron Marshall with the bulk of the carries. O'Neal will also be available to spell Marshall.
NFL Draft Class Progress Report: Eagles Preseason Observations
Two weeks into preseason, with the September 11th matchup against Cleveland looming, the Eagles are getting a lot of their young players' feet wet. After an offseason in which the team made a massive overhaul on the offensive side of the ball through the draft, including adding the presumptive franchise quarterback, there is much intrigue to how the young players are looking so far.
State of the Eagles, NFL Preseason Week 2
What do we know about the 2016 Eagles? Looks like the defense could be really good. Looks like the special teams could change games in the Eagles' favor. Looks like the offense has a lot of question marks. Fair to say? Two weeks into preseason, with all of the reaction and overreaction to last week's 17-9 win over Tampa Bay, it seems to me to be about as fair an assessment as we can have to date. Some things to talk about with the Steelers waiting on Thursday night ...
Eagles Breakdown: Reviewing every play of Carson Wentz's preseason rookie debut
Carson Wentz was far from perfect in his NFL preseason rookie debut, but the rookie quarterback did show a number of encouraging signs. Unfortunately for the Eagles, Wentz is going to miss some playing time after suffering a hairline fracture in his ribs on Thursday night. Since we won't be able to see Wentz play again for some time, let's revisit his tape from Philadelphia's preseason win over the Buccaneers. You can watch all of Wentz's throws from the game in the clip below.

The Intelligencer
While receiver Rueben Randle and cornerback Ron Brooks couldn’t complete the practice due to hydration, they were back on the field for Sunday morning’s open practice in front of about 18,000 fans at Lincoln Financial Field. So too was cornerback Nolan Carroll, who left Saturday’s practice due to soreness in his ankle. “This is a true training camp,” Carroll said. “It’s the dog days right now. We have to grind it out. The schedule isn’t going to change. It’s designed to make us tougher.

Doug Pederson plans to rest Eagles veterans more than Chip Kelly did
Eagles left tackle Jason Peters made headlines earlier this week when he criticized the methods of former head coach Chip Kelly. One of the criticisms was that Kelly's system pushed him to where it was hard to stay healthy. Peters also said he's looking forward to how Doug Pederson and the current staff will manage veterans, such as himself, more cautiously. Pederson talked about his plan for resting Eagles vets following practice on Friday.
