Phase-Engineered V-Mo-La Alloying Enables Room-Temperature Activation and Highly Reversible Hydrogen Storage in TiFe-Based Alloys
1 Introduction The accelerating penetration of renewable electricity and the imperative of deep decarbonization have positioned hydrogen as a pivotal secondary energy carrier for future low-carbon energy infrastructures [1-4]. Yet, the safe, efficient, and compact storage of hydrogen remains a persistent bottleneck that constrains its broad technological deployment [5-9].

Comparative machine learning modeling of resting energy expenditure estimation in mechanically ventilated children after cardiac surgery
Abstract Nutrition status is vital for children’s recovery following cardiac surgery, with substantial inter-individual variability in metabolic demands. We aimed to develop machine learning (ML) models of postoperative resting energy expenditure (REE) by analysing the influential factors. We retrospectively analyzed children who underwent indirect calorimetry (IC) for valid REE measurements within 4 to 24 h after cardiac surgery between January 2021 and December 2022 at our center.
NR3C1/PRKACG-mediated impairment of mitochondrial quality control underlies stress-induced hypothalamic neuronal injury
Abstract The hypothalamus integrates autonomic, endocrine, and behavioral responses to stress, and stress-induced hypothalamic neuronal injury is implicated in various diseases. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Mitochondria, as stress-sensitive organelles, play a critical role in cellular injury through structural and functional alterations.
Superior dorsal nigral hyperintensity depiction at 7 T MRI using CLEAR-DESS improves diagnosis performance of Parkinson’s disease
Abstract This study aimed to compare the qualitative and quantitative measurement of dorsal nigral hyperintensity (DNH) and its diagnostic efficacy for Parkinson’s disease (PD) between 7 T MRI sequences: the combined liquid and blood vessel attenuation with refined double echo steady state (CLEAR-DESS) and susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI).

Spatial atlas of diabetic kidney disease reveals a B cell-rich subgroup
|
Abstract Diabetic kidney disease (DKD), the leading cause of kidney failure, is marked by clinical and molecular heterogeneity, making therapeutic development exceedingly difficult1. Here we used Xenium and CosMx single-cell spatial transcriptomics, integrated with single-nucleus RNA sequencing, to build a cross-platform kidney atlas that makes tissue architecture computable for prognosis, non-invasive detection and patient selection.

Proteomic risk score for early prediction of kidney disease progression in individuals with APOL1 high-risk genotypes
|
Abstract Individuals of African ancestry carrying APOL1 (apolipoprotein L1) high-risk genotypes face a markedly increased risk of kidney failure, yet tools to identify those individuals likely to progress to chronic kidney disease are lacking. Here we profiled plasma proteomes of 851 Penn Medicine BioBank participants of African ancestry (285 males and 566 females) with APOL1 high-risk genotypes and preserved estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) (≥60 ml min−1 1.73 m−2).

4-Hydroxyphenanthrene exacerbates obesity by altering gut microbiota and bile acid metabolism
Abstract Elevated exposure to 4-hydroxyphenanthrene (4-OHPhe) is positively associated with obesity risk. However, the specific pathogenic mechanism remains unclear. Here, we use SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) and logistic regression analysis to identify a strong association between 4-OHPhe and obesity. Mechanistically, exposure to 4-OHPhe significantly downregulates the expression of hydroxylamine reductase (hcp) genes in Bacteroides uniformis (B.
Lipid metabolism drives dietary effects on T cell ferroptosis and immunity - Nature
|
Abstract Ferroptosis, a major mechanism of non-apoptotic programmed cell death, critically regulates the homeostasis and functionality of peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T cells1,2,3,4,5,6. Here we demonstrate that in mouse, resistance of T cells to ferroptosis depends critically on the composition of standard rodent diets, and that dietary effects on ferroptosis (DEFs) have a crucial role in regulation of T cell homeostasis and immune responses.

Macrophage Zc3h12c Limits Tissue Inflammation and Injury via Alternative Splicing of Pre‐mRNA
1 Introduction Macrophages (Mφ) are a group of highly plastic cells that can polarize into different functional phenotypes based on the signals they receive from their microenvironment.[1] It is their plasticity in activation that involves them in diverse physiological and pathological processes, including all phases of tissue injury and repair.[2] For example, during the early stage of acute kidney injury (AKI), exposure to damage-associated molecular patterns induces a pro-inflammatory...
Nanoconfined impulse synthesis of high-entropy nanocarbides for active and stable electrocatalysis - Nature Synthesis
Abstract Nanocarbides exhibit interesting mechanical properties and strong oxidation and corrosion resistance. The use of high-entropy effects has enhanced the performance of nanomaterials and enabled new functionalities. Despite the successful development of high-entropy nanoalloys and nanoceramics, controlled synthesis of high-entropy nanocarbides (HENCs) remains challenging due to high growth temperatures, agglomeration of nanoproducts and multi-component immiscibility.
High-entropy alloyed single-atom Pt for methanol oxidation electrocatalysis - Nature Communications
Abstract The methanol oxidation reaction is the bottleneck for direct methanol fuel cells. Unfortunately, the state-of-the-art Pt-based catalysts suffer heavily from the CO poisoning problem. Isolating Pt atoms in a material can avoid CO poisoning. However, single-atom Pt catalysts alone are inert towards methanol oxidation reaction. Here, we report high-entropy alloyed single-atom Pt catalysts, in which single-atom Pt sites are alloyed with non-noble elements in a high-entropy structure.

Interfacial engineering of Fe-O-Zn bonds in heterojunction photocatalysts: synergistic visible light PMS activation and electron transfer efficiency enhancement
Interfacial engineering of Fe-O-Zn bonds in heterojunction photocatalysts: synergistic visible light PMS activation and electron transfer efficiency enhancement Traditional Fenton-like catalysts suffer from low efficiency and poor catalytic activity. In this study, Zn-modified α-Fe2O3 (FZ13) catalysts were prepared using a hydrothermal method, and their catalytic performance was evaluated for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade tetracycline (TC) under visible light.

Electrochemical vicinal amidoselenation of unactivated olefins via tandem Ritter reaction
Electrochemical vicinal amidoselenation of unactivated olefins via tandem Ritter reaction A straightforward strategy for electrochemical vicinal amidoselenation of unactivated olefins via a tandem Ritter reaction was developed. The reaction was carried out with diaryl diselenides as selenylation reagents and acetonitrile as nucleophiles. Various amidoselenation products can be afforded from unactivated olefins under mild and metal- & oxidant-free electrochemical conditions.
