AVONDALE, La. (WVUE) - A possible tornado tore through a section of Avondale early Thursday, injuring two people and leaving one woman pinned to her sofa after debris from her trailer collapsed on top of her. The damage was concentrated along the 600 block of George Street, where residents said trailers were lifted into the air and thrown into backyards around 5 a.m. Officials had not confirmed whether the damage was caused by a tornado or straight-line winds.

Kenner takes gut punch as floodwater from Arthur stalls dozens of vehicles

KENNER, La. (WVUE) - Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley said the city took a “gut punch” Thursday morning as Arthur’s remnants dumped several inches of rain in less than two hours, flooding roads, stalling dozens of vehicles and briefly cutting off access near the airport. Conley said conditions had “drastically improved” by late morning, but the storm overwhelmed parts of the city before water began to recede. “Kenner got a gut punch,” Conley said.
