AVONDALE, La. (WVUE) - A possible tornado tore through a section of Avondale early Thursday, injuring two people and leaving one woman pinned to her sofa after debris from her trailer collapsed on top of her. The damage was concentrated along the 600 block of George Street, where residents said trailers were lifted into the air and thrown into backyards around 5 a.m. Officials had not confirmed whether the damage was caused by a tornado or straight-line winds.

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) — Long Beach crews spent Wednesday inspecting ditches and canals, trying to get ahead of what could be a significant flooding event. The city has two large drainage canals that move water through town, and Fire Chief Griff Skellie says they are ready. “They’re constantly doing inspections. They keep them maintained, water flows easily through,” Skellie said.
