Moored observations of the deep western boundary current east of the Gagua Ridge in the Northwestern Pacific
Abstract The deep western boundary current (DWBC) of the Pacific serves as a lower limb of the meridional overturning circulation that has been identified as a key component of the global climate system. Here, we report the results of observations from a set of full-depth subsurface moorings deployed in the Northwestern Pacific from August 2017 to May 2020.
Learning conjugate fringe decomposition for single-shot fringe projection profilometry
Non-contact 3D surface measurement from a single exposure hinges on the accuracy and generalization of phase demodulation. Traditionally, in fringe projection profilometry (FPP), depth is not measured directly but inferred from the phase of a projected fringe, so demodulating phase from a single image is the central step.
Structural basis of laminin mimicry by E. coli CNF1 and its therapeutic potential for cancer immunotherapy
Abstract The E. coli CNF1 toxin hijacks the host laminin 511 receptor, Lu/BCAM, to enter cells. Here, we present the high-resolution cryo-EM structures of full-length CNF1, the CNF1-BCAM complex, and the physiological laminin 511-BCAM complex. Structural analysis uncovers that CNF1 targets the V2 domain of BCAM, mimicking the interaction mode of laminin 511.

Near-optimal discrimination of displaced squeezed binary signals using displacement, inverse-squeezing, and photon-number-resolving detection
Abstract We propose an inverse-squeezing Kennedy receiver for discriminating binary phase-shift-keyed displaced squeezed vacuum states. The receiver combines a Kennedy-type nulling displacement, an orthogonally oriented inverse-squeezing operation and photon-number-resolving detection with a maximum-a-posteriori threshold rule.
Catalytic Proximal Protein Oligomerization as an Anti-Tumor Strategy Targeting WDR5
Abstract Inducing protein oligomerization holds therapeutic promise, yet identifying or rationally designing effective inducers remains challenging. In this study, we leverage nanopore technology to screen small molecules capable of modulating WD repeat domain 5 (WDR5) protein oligomerization and uncover a oligomerization mechanism which we term Catalytic Proximal Protein Oligomerization (CaPPO).
Mechanistic insights into the structure and function of the RecA C-terminal tail - Communications Biology
Abstract Bacterial RecA protein oligomerizes on single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) in the presence of ATP to form an active filament, RecA*, which is essential for homologous recombination and the activation of bacterial DNA damage response (SOS response). Despite extensive studies on the structure and function of RecA and RecA*, the exact function of the RecA flexible C-terminal tail remains poorly understood. Here, we report the crystal structure of the full-length RecA protein from K.
Weak self-induced cooling of tropical cyclones amid fast sea surface warming - Nature Geoscience
Abstract Sea surface temperature directly beneath tropical cyclones is crucial for their intensification. In the long term, global warming heats the surface oceans, intensifying tropical cyclones, whereas concurrently with a cyclone, inner-core surface cooling is induced by the cyclone itself curtailing its intensification. However, the magnitude of cyclone-induced cooling, or the trend in storm-local sea surface temperature, remains uncertain.

Structure and catalytic mechanism of exogenous fatty acid recycling by AasS, a versatile acyl-ACP synthetase - Nature Structural & Molecular Biology
Abstract Fatty acids (FAs) are essential building blocks for all the domains of life, of which bacterial de novo synthesis, called type II FA synthesis (FAS II), is energetically expensive. The recycling of exogenous FAs (eFAs) partially relieves the FAS II demand and, therefore, compromises the efficacy of FAS II-directed antimicrobials. The versatile acyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) synthetase, AasS, enables bacterial channeling of diverse eFA nutrients through holo-ACP, an activated form of ACP.
A bacterial methyltransferase that initiates biotin synthesis, an attractive anti-ESKAPE druggable pathway
Research Article STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY INTRODUCTION The water-soluble vitamin B7, biotin, is an indispensable micronutrient throughout the three domains of life (1). Unlike plants and most of bacterial species that program biotin synthesis pathways (1), humans cannot make this coenzyme. In general, gut commensals behave as a major group of biotin suppliers for mammalian biotin-dependent carboxylases/decarboxylases (2, 3).
