MARCUS, Iowa (KTIV) - Cherokee County, Iowa, has a higher suicide rate, on average, than the state, and national averages. That’s according to the county’s suicide prevention coalition. The coalition says the county averages 26 suicides per 100,000 people. The rate for the state of Iowa is 17 for every 100,000. Nationwide the rate is 14 per 100,000 people. Wednesday, the coalition hosted a mental health resources panel for mental health experts.
