‘Devolving into a democracy’: WA GOP’s take on U.S. system
As the last stretch of April’s convention of the Washington State Republican Party got under way, Chairman Jim Walsh took a moment to celebrate the messy process of democracy. “The large majority of you are first-time attendees to a convention,” Walsh, a state representative whose district includes Pacific County, told nearly 2,000 delegates gathered at the Spokane Convention Center.
A pizza shop provided the backdrop for their love story. Now they own it
Sam DeBrine remembers the first time he saw Mary Everhart. She walked into Brick House Pizza off Van Giesen Street for a job interview, and her dark hair, sparkling eyes and bubbly personality caught his attention. DeBrine already was on staff at the popular West Richland restaurant known for its creative pies and family feel. Everhart quickly became an all-star waitress, and she and DeBrine got to know each other during post-closing chats on the patio.
Fiesta transforms Kennewick restaurant into event center
Fiesta Restaurant owner Isidro Ortiz has always been able to adapt. In 2020, when the pandemic kept patrons from dining inside, Ortiz and his staff began selling takeout meals from their Kennewick restaurant at 8524 W. Gage Blvd. They propped the doors open, blocked the entrance so no one could come inside, and put customers’ takeout orders on the table for pickup. Fiesta was one of the first area restaurants to do this, Ortiz said. Now Ortiz has shifted strategies again.
Andy’s Coffee Break to bring its homestyle favorites to Kennewick
A popular Pasco restaurant that closed during the Covid-19 pandemic is set to reopen this spring in a prominent new location. Andy’s Coffee Break is taking over the former Shari’s restaurant building at 1200 N. Columbia Center Blvd. in Kennewick. Antonia Velasquez, her partner Armando Ruiz, and her son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Miriam Murillo, are working to give the building a facelift. They’re aiming to open in six to eight weeks, Miriam Murillo said earlier this month.
Vintage Park Townhomes
A partnership of investors recently completed construction on the Vintage Park Townhomes at 5801 Road 92 in Pasco. Each unit in the 28-unit development has the same floor plan: 1,449 finished square feet, two stories, three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, one-car garage, a dedicated two-car driveway and a semi-private backyard. There is extra shared parking and landscaped areas. The project cost $8 million and was completed in March 2024. Rent prices are $2,300 to $2,400 per month.
