Where Do the Cowboys Go Next After Another Packers Haunting?
If you’re a stickler for milestone purity, if you don’t believe it’s fair to assess the Cowboys or any other NFL team until a quarter of the season is in the books, you must wait to read this until the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets is over. Don’t blame me. This falls on the NFL for expanding to 17 games. But let’s not get lost in the statistical weeds. Any genuine assessment of why the Cowboys find themselves in this 1-2-1 state should be traced back to Jan. 14, 2024.

David Moore: Jerry Jones says Cowboys are one of league’s ‘best drafting teams.’ He might have a point.
DALLAS — The Cowboys have a plan. They have contingencies. But the variables? No one can say what those will be, and in what sequence they unfold, until the draft is underway. What the Cowboys do know, what club officials have confidence in, is their ability to draft. Unlike the previous three years, when successive 12-5 records pushed the club into the bottom quarter of each round, Dallas finds itself in the top third. A losing record (7-10) will do that for a team.

No urgency yet on extending Parsons
PALM BEACH, Fla. — The parameters for an extension with Micah Parsons appear to be in place. How long it takes to invite the player’s agent to the table to complete the task is another matter. Jerry Jones spent nearly 33 minutes with reporters Tuesday morning from the NFL annual meetings. The bulk of that conversation was devoted to where the Cowboys stand in their negotiations with their star defensive player. Abbreviated version: Jones and Parsons have met.
Cowboys Martin
FRISCO — Zack Martin approached his retirement announcement the way he did every single game he played for the Dallas Cowboys. One of the best players in franchise history smiled as he took his spot on the podium between Jerry and Stephen Jones. Martin unfolded his opening statement and began to read. Over the next 13 minutes, Martin took the audience through a career that began at a prep school in Indianapolis, made a stop at Notre Dame then ended with 11 sterling years with the Cowboys.
TO BE DETERMINED
INDIANAPOLIS — Brian Schottenheimer has consistently stressed the need for the Cowboys to run the ball since becoming the team’s head coach. Ashton Jeanty, who played his high school ball at Frisco Lone Star, has said “it would be dope” to wind up with Dallas. The Cowboys have the 12th pick in next month’s draft which could be the sweet spot for this union to take place. Remember, the franchise used its first round pick on running back Ezekiel Elliott nine years ago to transform its fortunes.
David Moore: Should the Cowboys take Ashton Jeanty in the NFL Draft? It’s complicated.

Cowboys can't afford to ignore free agency again
DALLAS — Reaction to Brian Schottenheimer being named the Cowboys next head coach has gone ... Well, about the way you’d expect for a piece of news the club chose to drop a little before 9 o’clock on a Friday evening. While that remains prime time for network TV, it’s where unpopular announcements are banished to minimize the negative fallout. None of this is a reflection on whether or not Schottenheimer has what it takes to do the job.
Cowboys hire Schottenheimer to replace McCarthy
Now he’s stayed behind to take his place. Schottenheimer, the team’s offensive coordinator the last two seasons, has agreed to a contract to become the Cowboys head coach, the team announced Friday night. The deal is for four years, a person with knowledge of the contract told The Dallas Morning News. In what can only be called an unexpected turn, the long-time coordinator is now a first-time head coach, becoming the 10th man to hold that title in the franchise’s rich history.

Cowboys
Cooper Rush is a quarterback of few words. Still, when a game unfolds in such a ridiculously entertaining way, it’s best to get out of the way and let the action speak for itself. “Pretty insane,” Rush said when asked to describe the final moments of a victory over Washington that allowed the Cowboys to end a five-game losing streak. A first half that produced a 3-3 stalemate gave no hint of the scintillating finish to come. The teams combined for 41 points in the final 8 minutes, 11 seconds.
BIRTHDAY BASHED
Condolences rather than congratulations are in order. The head coach presided over an offense that gave the Cowboys absolutely no chance to beat Philadelphia and offered little hope that it can pull out of this dysfunctional spiral any time soon. No touchdowns and five turnovers. Lament the season-ending loss of Dak Prescott — an assumption that should become reality Monday once the quarterback receives the final opinion on the partial avulsion of his right hamstring — all you want.
Jerry Jones camp review: CeeDee Lamb talks, Oxnard standouts top Cowboys owner’s highlights
OXNARD, Calif. — Only one padded practice remains in what has been one of the longest camps in Cowboys history. Jerry Jones came down from the tower that stands between the two practice fields to chat with the media Tuesday afternoon. The owner of the franchise spoke of extensions not done, what has impressed him most from this camp and work that still needs to be done. kAm%96 4@?G6CD2E:@?[ 2D :E 92D D:?46 E96 E62> 2CC:G65 :? $@FE96C? r2=:7@C?:2 ah 52JD 62C=:6C[ 3682?

David Moore: Cowboys players, coaches are all in. It’s time for Jerry and Stephen Jones to do the same
Boston right fielder Tyler O’Neill left the Red Sox’s game Friday night against the Chicago White Sox because of an apparent injury. It was unclear when exactly O’Neill got hurt. He flied out for the first out of the second. After Lenyn Sosa popped up to catcher for Chicago’s first out of the third, O’Neill walked off the field with manager Alex Cora and a trainer. O’Neill was acquired by Boston in a December trade with St. Louis.

David Moore: As Rangers, Stars, Mavs ride championship runs, don’t forget: Cowboys set the standard
DALLAS — The Mavericks barely had time to celebrate their second trip to the conference finals in three years before the numbers started making the rounds on social media. Days since last conference final or league championship series appearance for Dallas teams: Mavericks: 0 Stars: 0 Rangers: 209 Cowboys: 10,352 The success of the Mavericks, Stars and Rangers before them has sparked an unprecedented seven-month stretch.
David Moore: Cowboys’ Micah Parsons is a star. That doesn’t mean he’s a leader.
FRISCO, Texas — No one should question Micah Parsons’ drive to be great. No one should question the hard work he puts in to achieve that goal because he chooses to do much of his training away from the Cowboys facility during the voluntary phase of the offseason program. Now, if you want to question his credentials as a leader, that’s fair game. Parsons wasn’t at Thursday’s practice. That should come as no surprise. He’s hasn’t been to any this month.
David Moore: What sets Cowboys’ Dak Prescott apart from other QBs? He doesn’t shy away from pressure.
FRISCO, Texas — Dak Prescott has yet to lead the Cowboys past the divisional round of the playoffs. Perhaps you’ve heard. The quarterback hasn’t achieved the postseason success the Mavericks and Stars currently enjoy. A championship like the one the Rangers captured six months ago has eluded his grasp. Envious? Not at all. The accomplishments of those teams belongs to them. It has nothing to do with what Prescott and the Cowboys haven’t done.

Dan Quinn would accept Commanders' head coach job, but door back to Cowboys remains open
DALLAS - Dan Quinn is expected to leave the Cowboys before the week is done if Washington offers him its head coaching position, people with knowledge of Quinn's thinking told The Dallas Morning News. Quinn has made it known he would be happy to return to Dallas for a fourth season as defensive coordinator if the Commanders turn elsewhere. But he's ready to tackle another chance at being a head coach and believed Wednesday both Seattle and Washington were good opportunities.
Muncie Central defeats Indianapolis Arsenal Tech in senior night win
MUNCIE, IND - Tonight was senior night for Muncie Central (3-5) in its matchup against Indianapolis Arsenal Tech (0-8). The stage was set. Senior night and a rainy evening, a perfect night for football. The night ended even better as Muncie Central defeated the Titans 41-12. The Bearcats came out on fire early in the first quarter scoring two rushing touchdowns from sophomore Dae’cion Echols and senior Leo Boyd.
Yorktown falls in second straight Hoosier-Heritage Conference matchup
YORKTOWN, IND - The clash between the two Hoosier Heritage Conference (HHC) rivals, Yorktown (4-3) and Pendleton Heights (5-2), was set to be an entertaining matchup in the final home game of the season for the Tigers. The Arabians came out swinging and their game plan was clear from the start. It was going to be a grind-it-out type of game. Pendleton used a heavy dose of the ground game on their opening drive.
Cowboys-Cardinals takeaways: Dallas sees various issues pile up in season’s first loss
No one will be talking about how the Cowboys could be the best team in the NFL this week. A team that stresses the importance of complementary football gave an ugly display of that in a 28-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. This group was truly bad on both sides of the ball. The offense and defense both fell flat. Did the loss of 18 Pro Bowl appearances between four players who didn’t play in this game put the Cowboys in a bind? Sure. But not to this extent.

Muncie Central football earns first win of 2023, remains optimistic for an end of season run
Heading into this clash between two North Central Conference (NCC) rivals, Richmond and Muncie Central, both were desperately looking to flip the script on their seasons. The Bearcats were winless on the season up to this point, and the Red Devils weren’t too far ahead with just one win. From the moment toe met leather it was easy to tell who had the upper hand. The Bearcats came out fired up, hunting down their first win of the season, and the emotion surrounding the home team was palpable.
New Cowboys CB Noah Igbinoghene needed a fresh start. He's found one in Dallas
The corner didn't have any particular team in mind. He had no idea it would happen this season. But he was ready.
Police report reveals Cowboys DE Sam Williams’ driving speed, details of full charges
FRISCO — A routine traffic stop led to the charges Sam Williams now faces. The Cowboys defensive end has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and the unlawful carrying of a weapon for an episode that took place Sunday, a few hours after the team returned from its preseason game in Seattle. The arrest report has been released by the Frisco Police Department.
Until Jerry Jones fixes this issue, a cloud will hang over Cowboys Ring of Honor
FRISCO, Texas - DeMarcus Ware should have been the sole focus. The spotlight should have shone on him and him alone with the announcement that he'll be the next inductee into the Cowboys Ring of Honor.
Dak Prescott turns 30: How the Cowboys QB’s leadership, drive is as apparent as ever
OXNARD, Calif. — Dak Prescott was busy jotting down a few notes when the question was posed. Who was the oldest person in the room? He didn’t pay much attention until a couple of guys in the room started coughing. “Then I heard my name and looked up and everybody was giving me crap for being the old guy,’’ Prescott said about the recent getaway he hosted at Lake Oconee in Georgia. “That’s when it hit me.’’ Prescott is entering his eighth season as the Cowboys quarterback.
What Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said about the Super Bowl ring he gave Clarence Thomas
OXNARD, Calif. — Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was chosen to present the Cowboys with their rings after the team’s victory in Super Bowl XXVIII. Jerry Jones wanted to return the favor. “It was an honor for him to give the rings out that year and for me to award him one and have one,’’ the Cowboys owner said Tuesday. Gifts that Thomas has received — and often not reported — since being named to the highest court in the land have come under scrutiny in recent months.

Gallup finally back to full speed
Michael Gallup offers a stark example of how much better his body feels now than it did one year ago. He can walk. Gallup couldn’t do that without a noticeable limp last June as he recovered from a torn ACL. And now? The Cowboys receiver is a full go in these organized team activities at The Star. He looked good in last week’s practice open to the media and talks about being 100 strides ahead of where he was at this stage 13 months ago. “It’s different now,’’ Gallup said. “I feel springy again.
Brutal road slate, McCarthy-Rodgers reunion and more
By David Moore - The Dallas Morning News (TNS) DALLAS - Put aside the brutal road schedule. Cowboys have cleared $30M in cap space. What does that mean for free agency approach?
The Cowboys won’t waffle when it comes to their draft and develop approach. That doesn’t mean they can’t add a quality free agent or two here and there. An argument can be made this is the perfect offseason to become more aggressive on the free agent market. What better way to build on consecutive 12-5 seasons than to judiciously add a few high-profile free agents to one of the youngest teams in the NFL?
Will Cowboys franchise tag Tony Pollard? Here are 4 reasons why they should.
DALLAS - Tony Pollard still uses a scooter, but people say he's getting around pretty good these days. Once he's able to put it aside and move to the next phase of his rehabilitation, he may have something else in place.
