Integrating abiotic and biotic habitat classification improves ecological understanding of regional habitat structure in the Northwest Pacific seamount region
Abstract Understanding the composition and spatial pattern of deep-sea benthic habitats is important for marine conservation. However, biological observations remain sparse in deep-sea regions, and broad-scale habitat classifications still rely largely on environmental variables as surrogates for benthic organisms. It remains unclear whether these classifications capture habitat differences that are meaningful for benthic communities.
Viral diversity and ecological functions in the world’s largest deep-sea mineral exploration region
Abstract Deep-sea polymetallic nodule provinces host distinct benthic prokaryotic communities, yet viruses that regulate them remain largely unknown. Here, we established the viral genome dataset of the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone, the world’s largest deep-sea mineral exploration region, to investigate viral diversity and ecological functions.

As an emerging enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technique, advanced CO2 flooding has attracted increasing attention.
Gate-tunable mid-infrared electroluminescence from Te/MoS 2 p-n heterojunctions
Abstract Mid-infrared (MIR) emitters are critical components in advanced photonic systems, driving progress in fields such as chemical sensing, environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, thermal imaging and free-space communications. Conventional MIR emitters based on III–V heterostructures rely on complex epitaxial growth on rigid lattice-matched substrates and suffer from limited integration compatibility with CMOS or flexible platforms.
Ultrafast non-volatile charge storage and mid-infrared photoluminescence in LuminoMem tellurium devices for in-memory computing
Abstract Integrated optoelectronic systems strive to combine the logic and memory density of electronics with the bandwidth of photonics, but monolithic realization is impeded by the inefficient electronic-to-photonic interface. Current architectures rely on separate readout circuitry and modulators, creating bottlenecks in energy and latency, while existing direct transduction methods often compromise on switching speed or non-volatility.
Effects of different resistance loads during resisted sprint running on internal stresses of the ankle joint: a finite element analysis
Abstract This study examined how three resistance loads (10%, 20%, and 30% of body weight) affect ankle bone stress during sprint running. Thirty elite male sprinters performed trials, and kinematic, kinetic, and finite‑element analyses were conducted. With increasing load, peak dorsiflexion angle and moments rose, while peak inversion angle fell. The 30% load produced the highest stress in the tibia, talus, and second/third metatarsals, with concentration in the metatarsal shafts.

Enterococcus hirae QT4713-derived dopamine ameliorates intestinal inflammation and MPTP-induced Parkinson’s disease in mice
Abstract Gut microbiota dysbiosis contributes to Parkinson’s disease (PD) pathology by altering dopamine metabolism in the gut–brain axis. Although probiotics and other functional strains have been proposed as microbiome-based interventions, few naturally occurring gut microbes show therapeutic potential for PD. Here, we isolated Enterococcus hirae QT4713 (QT4713) from the hypoxic, low-pressure Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (4713 m altitude).
A Skull Bone Marrow-to-Brain Axis Links Osteoblastic Activity to Myeloid Cell Trafficking, Cerebral Blood Flow, and Cognition in Alzheimer's Progression

Discovery of potent and highly selective sodium-dependent glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors for treating diabetic nephropathy
Abstract Inhibition of glucose reabsorption by SGLT2 in the kidney is a promising strategy for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy. Adverse side effects of SGLT1 inhibition can be reduced by selective inhibition of SGLT2. Here, we developed an integrated virtual screening approach (combining drug-likeness analysis, pharmacophore model recognition, molecular docking experiments, and interaction analysis) to discover novel SGLT2 inhibitors.

To the creative yet drifting advertising endeavours of the AI era
Many years ago, when I was still an advertising student staying up late crafting strategies, chasing ideas, and designing posters, I often found myself wondering: What does creativity truly mean in advertising? George Lois — America’s legendary creative rebel — once wrote in What’s the Big Idea? (1993) “For me, the big idea has always been synonymous with the audacious.” When thinking of big ideas, one needs boldness, to confront authority and to make something incredibly different.

Performance analysis of a liquid lens for laser ablation using OCT imaging
Laser ablation has been used in different surgical procedures to perform precise treatments. Compared with previous free-beam laser delivery systems, flexible-optical-fiber-based systems can deliver laser energy to a curved space, avoiding the requirement of a straight working path to the target. However, the fiber tip maintains direct contact with the tissue to prevent laser divergence, resulting in fiber damage, uneven ablation, and tissue carbonization.
