A People-First Approach to Success in Technology
Integrating new technologies into supply chain operations is not a new concept, but the sheer scale and speed of modern AI, robotics, and automation are on a completely different level than anything we have seen before. Every week there is a new tool that promises to optimize warehouses, predict demand shocks, and eliminate operational friction.
Mistborn World Guide: A Lore Companion and Art Book for Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Saga review
Growing up, everyone always told me to stop eating random bits of metal. Little did they know that I was testing to see if I was one of sixteen different types of Mistings. Even though it turned out that I’m not, the experience and knowledge of Mistings helped while reading through the new Mistborn World Guide: A Lore Companion and Art Book for Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn Saga. If you read my review of the Stormlight World Guide, you’ll see similarities between the reviews.
Challenges and opportunities in combining radiotherapy and immunotherapy for localized pancreatic cancer
Abstract Even when presenting in the clinic with localized disease, patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) experience extremely poor survival, owing to local recurrence and/or distant progression driven by micrometastatic lesions despite aggressive systemic chemotherapy.
The fiber bottleneck nobody priced into the AI boom
Every conversation about AI infrastructure eventually turns to power and computer chips. Fewer turn to fiber-optic cable, the glass wiring connecting thousands of AI chips to each other and linking data centers to the outside world. That's a mistake. Fiber has quietly become one of the tightest constraints in the AI buildout, and most companies aren't managing it well.

The Ultimate Decision Engine for Mastering CPG Trade-Offs
By Eric Deutsch, Business Advisor at Oliver Wight Americas Key takeaways: Predictable performance breaks down not from bad forecasting but from disconnected decisions. Commercial, operational, and financial teams optimize in silos, and inventory swings, service gaps, and margin erosion are symptoms of the same root cause. Communication and better dashboards don’t fix misalignment.
Metabolic determinants of cancer immunotherapy outcomes identified by plasma profiling
|
Abstract Immune-checkpoint inhibitors benefit a subset of patients with advanced cancer, and the metabolic determinants of response remain unclear. Here, using targeted metabolomics and metagenomics, we profiled 4,336 plasma samples from 1,714 patients across five tumor types and 16 cohorts spanning Europe and North America, longitudinally sampled during five immune-checkpoint inhibitor-based treatment modalities, including fecal microbiota transplantation.

Single cells and spatial RNA profiling reveal that inflammatory fibroblasts arise from Edil3 stromal cells in the colon after irradiation
Abstract Patients with cancer who are treated for tumors located in the abdominopelvic region may develop radiation proctitis. This condition is characterized by severe mucosal inflammation that can significantly impair quality of life. In the colon, it’s now established that the stroma orchestrates epithelial, endothelial, and immune cell homeostasis and plays a pivotal role following an injury.
Expanding the human proteome with microproteins and peptideins

Abstract A major scientific drive is to characterize the protein-coding genome, which is a primary basis for studying human health. But the fundamental question remains of what has been missed in previous analyses. Over the past decade, the translation of non-canonical open reading frames (ncORFs) has been observed across human cell types and disease states1,2,3, with major implications for biomedical science.

Roguelike TTRPG brings the best video game genre to tabletop
I'll be honest, I don't play many video games these days. The ones that I do play are exclusively roguelikes and roguelites. When I got to play a session of the Roguelike TTRPG three years ago at GenCon, I was absolutely stoked and the system delivered. Recently I got to preview the quickstart guide, which includes the core mechanics and the first level of The Tomb of Time. What makes Roguelike TTRPG special is that it brings the feel of a roguelike video game to the tabletop.
Stormlight World Guide: A Lore Compendium and Art Book for Brandon Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive review
When I first picked up Mistborn: The Final Empire in 2015, I would never have guessed that the Cosmere would be something I'd become obsessed with. Now, at the end of 2025, I've read all of it. 18 books, 2 novellas, and a handful of short stories (assuming I remembered everything in my count).

Community benchmarking and evaluation of human unannotated microprotein detection by mass spectrometry based proteomics - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Thousands of short open reading frames (sORFs) are translated outside of annotated coding sequences. Recent studies have pioneered searching for sORF-encoded microproteins in mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics and peptidomics datasets. Here, we assessed literature-reported MS-based identifications of unannotated human proteins. We find that studies vary by three orders of magnitude in the number of unannotated proteins they report.

Moonshine Empire Review- The swamp and Pappy keep what they take
Editor’s note. This review is based mostly on the version 1.0 rulebook provided with the review. There has been a release of rules 1.2, and I’ll reference some of the updates and improvements throughout the review. Those updates can be found here. Moonshine Empire is a game about making and selling moonshine. It’s mostly pickup and deliver, with an auction to set up your camp, and a few ways to navigate the swamp to get to Pappy’s tavern where eager customers wait for you to deliver their orders.
Disco Heist Laundry Preview - The second taste hooks you
Last year at Gen Con, I got a brief look at Disco Heist Laundry and you can read that preview here. A year later and the loose screws are tighter and the music is pumping. Nothing about the core gameplay has changed; you still want to bring goons into the city, pull off heists to gather loot, and turn that loot into sweet sweet cash. What has changed is the balance. The various kingpins feel much more equal, even with their small asymmetries.

Arkham Horror RPG Starter Set - Hungering Abyss review- Town's disappearances have nothing to do with module title
Hungering Abyss is intended as an introduction to Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game. As a module, its goal is to teach both players and GM the game and to have a fun experience while learning. It comes packed with monsters, allies, characters, and maps. Importantly for the Arkham Horror seal of approval, it is equipped with evidence and enough detail in universe to have the players actually investigate instead of playing as investigators.
Class of '89 demo at Gen Con 2025
If you are like me, and most people, the biggest regret of your life is that you weren’t on the yearbook staff of your high school. The rest of you have already achieved greatness. For those of us in the majority, Class of ‘89 is going to bring us the taste of what could have been. I got to sit down to a demo of the game at Gen Con this year and I was impressed. First off, a disclaimer. The game is still undergoing playtesting and design, and work has barely started on the art.

The microbiota in radiotherapy-induced cancer immunosurveillance - Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology
Abstract Radiotherapy has an established role in the clinical treatment of patients with a variety of cancers owing to the ability to preferentially kill malignant cells mostly while sparing their non-malignant counterparts. Results from phase I–II trials also suggest that radiotherapy can have therapeutically relevant immunostimulatory effects, especially when combined with immune-checkpoint inhibitors.
An expanded reference catalog of translated open reading frames for biomedical research
Abstract Non-canonical (i.e., unannotated) open reading frames (ncORFs) have until recently been omitted from reference genome annotations, despite evidence of their translation, limiting their incorporation into biomedical research. To address this, in 2022, we initiated the TransCODE consortium and built the first community-driven consensus catalog of human ncORFs, which was openly distributed to the research community via Ensembl-GENCODE.
PloverDB: A high-performance platform for serving biomedical knowledge graphs as standards-compliant web APIs
Abstract Knowledge graphs are increasingly being used to integrate heterogeneous biomedical knowledge and data. General-purpose graph database management systems such as Neo4j are often used to host and search knowledge graphs, but such tools come with overhead and leave biomedical-specific standards compliance and reasoning to the user.

Applying a conservation-based approach for predicting novel phosphorylation sites in eukaryotes and evaluating their functional relevance
Abstract Protein phosphorylation, a key post-translational modification, is central to cellular signalling and disease pathogenesis. The development of high-throughput proteomics pipelines has led to the discovery of large numbers of phosphorylated protein motifs and sites (phosphosites) across many eukaryotic species.
Best of Gen Con 2024- Better late than never edition
|
Convention season was very intense in 2024, with GamingTrend attending more tabletop cons than any other year prior. In fact, we went to so many conventions this year we still have content to publish on our Youtube channel from Origins and Gen Con (so keep your eyes peeled!). Needless to say, we’ve been very busy! Unfortunately, our Best of Gen Con Awards piece kept of being put on the back-burner, which is why you are reading this in late November instead of early September.

Non-homogenous intratumor ionizing radiation doses synergize with PD1 and CXCR2 blockade - Nature Communications
Abstract The efficacy and side effects of radiotherapy (RT) depend on parameters like dose and the volume of irradiated tissue. RT induces modulations of the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) that are dependent on the dose. Low dose RT (LDRT, i.e., single doses of 0.5–2 Gy) has been shown to promote immune infiltration into the tumor.
Disco Heist Laundry Preview - The First Taste was Free
At Gen Con this year, a few of us at GamingTrend were able to sit down with Mike Gnade from Rock Manor games to run a few rounds of the upcoming game Disco Heist Laundry. While we didn’t get a full game in, the beginning of the game was enough to get me hooked. Conceptually, there’s two main things happening in the game. First, you act as a mobster who runs a crew to complete jobs around the board.

BAM! Comics come to tabletop - Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition
In the words of its creators, Prowlers & Paragons (P&P) Ultimate Edition is designed to emulate four-color superhero comics. With that in mind, it leans on basic comic terms to reframe typical RPG ideas in a way that is understandable to players who only have one of those as a frame of reference. P&P combines narrative-driven storytelling with concrete rules for combat and other situations with direct opposition.

Mirrorscape preview - A trio of perspectives on the latest attempt to take TTRPG digital.
Dan Hinkin – Lead Tabletop Editor I didn’t get started in tabletop roleplaying until the pandemic. During that time, a friend of mine from the gym asked if I’d be interested in trying out a gaming system of his called Aliens and Asteroids. I bought my first pair of dice from my friendly local game store and sat down at my computer where I met most of this party for the first time.
Indie TTRPGs at Gen Con-Systems you might have missed and up-and-comers
This year’s TTRPG tables at GenCon showcased previously released and currently playtesting games that ran the gamut of tones and mechanics. I am part of the small subculture of people who attend GenCon solely to play tabletop role playing games. Every year, my goal is simple: play as many new settings and systems as possible. This year did not disappoint. Before I get into the details, a quick thanks for each GM and player I sat with.
Standardized annotation of translated open reading frames - Nature Biotechnology
|
To the Editor — Ribosome profiling (Ribo-seq) has extended our understanding of the translational ‘vocabulary’ of the human genome, uncovering thousands of open reading frames (ORFs) within long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and presumed untranslated regions (UTRs) of protein-coding genes. However, reference gene annotation projects have been circumspect in their incorporation of these ORFs because of uncertainties about their experimental reproducibility and physiological roles.

Universal Spectrum Identifier for mass spectra - Nature Methods
Abstract Mass spectra provide the ultimate evidence to support the findings of mass spectrometry proteomics studies in publications, and it is therefore crucial to be able to trace the conclusions back to the spectra. The Universal Spectrum Identifier (USI) provides a standardized mechanism for encoding a virtual path to any mass spectrum contained in datasets deposited to public proteomics repositories.

Brachytherapy: An overview for clinicians
Abstract Brachytherapy is a specific form of radiotherapy consisting of the precise placement of radioactive sources directly into or next to the tumor. This technique is indicated for patients affected by various types of cancers. It is an optimal tool for delivering very high doses to the tumor focally while minimizing the probability of normal tissue complications. Physicians from a wide range of specialties may be involved in either the referral to or the placement of brachytherapy.

Prediction of Drug Approval After Phase I Clinical Trials in Oncology: RESOLVED2
PURPOSE Drug development in oncology currently is facing a conjunction of an increasing number of antineoplastic agents (ANAs) candidate for phase I clinical trials (P1CTs) and an important attrition rate for final approval. We aimed to develop a machine learning algorithm (RESOLVED2) to predict drug development outcome, which could support early go/no-go decisions after P1CTs by better selection of drugs suitable for further development.

A Fund for Sue | Indiegogo Life
The death of a loved one is always difficult. Even more so when we lose someone suddenly. Rarely are we prepared to deal with the death of someone so young. Friends and family are left to pick up the pieces and deal with the tremendous void and emotional aftermath. This pain is usually compounded by the financial burden placed on those left to deal with funeral services, etc. That's why we've started this this fund.
