Coronavirus protein interaction mapping in bat and human cells reveals network rewiring governing immune evasion and zoonotic potential
Results Bats serve as natural reservoir hosts for a wide range of emerging viruses, including SARSr-CoVs, yet the molecular mechanisms that govern coronavirus replication and host restriction in bat cells remain poorly defined. To investigate these mechanisms, we sought to develop an in vitro model to study host-virus interactions and characterize cellular response to SARS-CoV-2 infection in a bat-host context. To date, most SARSr-CoVs have been identified in horseshoe bats.

Generation of antigen-specific memory CD4 T cells by heterologous immunization enhances the magnitude of the germinal center response upon influenza infection
Abstract Current influenza vaccine strategies have yet to overcome significant obstacles, including rapid antigenic drift of seasonal influenza viruses, in generating efficacious long-term humoral immunity. Due to the necessity of germinal center formation in generating long-lived high affinity antibodies, the germinal center has increasingly become a target for the development of novel or improvement of less-efficacious vaccines.
Mutations in SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern link to increased spike cleavage and virus transmission
Highlights: • The S:655Y mutation in SARS-CoV-2 enhances spike protein cleavage and fusogenicity • The S:655Y mutation increases transmissibility in vivo • S:655Y was able to outcompete ancestral S:655H in vivo • SARS-CoV-2 VOCs evolve to acquire an increased spike cleavage and fusogenic ability Summary SARS-CoV-2 lineages have diverged into highly prevalent variants termed Variants of Concern (VOCs).
A Newcastle disease virus expressing a stabilized spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 induces protective immune responses - Nature Communications
Abstract Rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines has helped mitigating SARS-CoV-2 spread, but more equitable allocation of vaccines is necessary to limit the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the emergence of additional variants of concern. We have developed a COVID-19 vaccine candidate based on Newcastle disease virus (NDV) that can be manufactured at high yields in embryonated eggs.

Newcastle disease virus-based H5 influenza vaccine protects chickens from lethal challenge with a highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza virus
The codon-optimized ectodomain of an H5 HA based on the H5N2 A/chicken/Iowa/04-20/2015 virus was cloned into the NDV vector and confirmed by sequencing. The full-length cDNA clone carrying the complete antisense genome of the NDV LaSota vaccine strain with the H5 HA ectodomain part fused with the transmembrane and cytoplasmic tail of the NDV F protein (Fig. 1a) were co-transfected with the supporting NDV plasmids (NP, P, and L) into A549 cells.
