Old Orchard Beach is a popular tourist destination for Canadians, and while the beach is busy this holiday weekend, in the last year or so, there have been political and economic reasons Canadians may have stayed home."Last year it was a little bit slower," Jeff Corbin, owner of the Oceanic Inn, said. "I think it may have had to do with the weather, though. There was quite a bit of rain, especially on the weekends.

At the Jean Byers Sampson Center for Diversity, you can find a lot of history. Much of it was collected by Gerald Talbot, Maine's first Black legislator. He donated it to the center on the campus of the University of Southern Maine in 1995. Some of the artifacts are things like busts of African American heroes, and signs and other materials from before the Civil Rights Movement.
