Child health service coverage estimation using routine health data from Ghana’s Eastern Region
Abstract Suboptimal resource allocation limits uptake of essential health services in sub-Saharan Africa. Reliable population denominators and coverage estimates are needed to better match health facility resources to local demand. An estimation approach utilising routine health data has previously been used at region-/district-level. This ecological study aimed to explore its use at lower administrative levels, taking Ghana as an example.

Community benchmarking and evaluation of human unannotated microprotein detection by mass spectrometry based proteomics - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Thousands of short open reading frames (sORFs) are translated outside of annotated coding sequences. Recent studies have pioneered searching for sORF-encoded microproteins in mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics and peptidomics datasets. Here, we assessed literature-reported MS-based identifications of unannotated human proteins. We find that studies vary by three orders of magnitude in the number of unannotated proteins they report.

The PARP inhibitor talazoparib synergizes with reovirus to induce cancer killing and tumour control in vivo in mouse models - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Reovirus type 3 Dearing (RT3D) is an oncolytic, double-stranded RNA virus. To identify potential RT3D drug-viral sensitizer, here we use a high-throughput screen of therapeutic agents and find a PARP-1 inhibitor, talazoparib, as a top hit. RT3D interacts with retinoic acid-induced gene-1 (RIG-I) and activates PARP-1, with consequent PARylation of components of the extrinsic apoptosis pathway.

Palbociclib and dsRNA sensor co-operate to enhance anti-cancer effects through ER stress and modulation of immune evasion - Nature Communications
Abstract Cytoplasmic pattern recognition receptors (PRR) for double-stranded RNA, such as RIG-I/MDA5, are key mediators of anti-viral responses. Here we screen for synergistic drug-virotherapy combinations and find that the reovirus type III Dearing strain (Rt3D)-palbociclib combination augments oncolytic virus-induced stress responses and increases interferon production and signaling.

Ultralow Overpotential in Rechargeable Li-CO2 Batteries Enabled by Caesium Phosphomolybdate as an Effective Redox Catalyst
Synthesis of CPM Nanocomposite PMA and CsNO3 at a molar ratio of 1:3 with seven drops of Triton-X-100 as a surfactant were thoroughly ground in an agate mortar until a uniform yellow powder was formed (Figure 1). The prepared sample was then sonicated in isopropyl alcohol for 20 min and separated by centrifugation. This process was repeated five times to ensure the removal of all impurities. Finally, the wet CPM particles were dried overnight at 50 °C in a vacuum oven.

Contemporary educational practices, systems, and research in the United States are marked by ahistorical and racialized discourses that shape school organizations and institutions. Atmospheric solids analysis probe mass spectrometry: An easy bolt‐on for the synthetic undergraduate teaching laboratory
1 INTRODUCTION Mass spectrometry (MS) is one of the most widely used analytical chemistry techniques in both academia and industry, and the need for graduates competent in MS theory and practice continues to grow. Teaching of MS has developed from structure elucidation (as part of wider spectroscopic characterisation of organic compounds) to include the use and function of gas chromatography–MS (GC/MS) and liquid chromatography–MS (LC/MS) systems.

Evaluating the determinants of support for police militarization among officers
Perceived threat Instead of SLBs, the comparative politics and political violence literatures view officers in a different light, suggesting when governments experience increased threat, they rely on coercion, often by police, to maintain power and order (e.g., Davenport, 2007; della Porta, 2011; Moore, 1998; Poe, 2004). The government, acting on the state's behalf, controls a relative advantage over the legitimate use of violence, which it uses to maintain order (Weber, 1965).

Economic evaluation of Optilume, a drug‐coated balloon for recurrent anterior male urethral stricture
Abstract Objectives We aim to conduct an economic evaluation of the Optilume urethral drug-coated balloon (DCB) compared with endoscopic management for the treatment of recurrent anterior male urethral stricture in England. Patients and Methods A cohort Markov model was developed to estimate the costs and savings to the NHS over a 5-year time horizon of adopting Optilume for the treatment of anterior urethral male stricture versus current endoscopic standard of care.
Restoring mortality data in the FOURIER cardiovascular outcomes trial of evolocumab in patients with cardiovascular disease: a reanalysis based on regulatory data
The 26% of inconsistencies we identified through the RIAT process puts into question the validity of cause of death adjudication by the FOURIER clinical-events committee. Discrepancies in the death adjudication process affected both treatment arms, but the misadjudications improperly reduced cardiovascular deaths in the evolocumab group.
Restoring mortality data in the FOURIER cardiovascular outcomes trial of evolocumab in patients with cardiovascular disease: a reanalysis based on regulatory data
I read your article with great interest, as a physician-scientist trainee who has Familial Hypercholesterolemia and takes Evolocumab as additive therapy. This article demonstrates important discrepancies to address for a very large trial critical to the uptake of PCSK9 inhibitors everywhere. It is disappointing to see such discrepancies. My concern with your conclusions, however, is that it seems to vastly overstate the impact of the findings.

Risks and Benefits of Benzodiazepines
To the Editor The recent Viewpoint about the risks and benefits of benzodiazepines1 dismissed the alarming statistics that 12.6% of people in the US are using benzodiazepines (4 times the rate in other high-income nations), 17% of them are misusing these drugs, and benzodiazepine-related deaths have risen 10-fold in the US over the past 20 years.
A Scoping Review of Patient Desires in Cana
Abstract Patient-centred care is a key priority for governments, providers and stakeholders, yet little is known about the care preferences of patient groups. We completed a scoping review that yielded 193 articles for analysis. Five health states were used to account for the diversity of possible preferences based on health needs. Five broad themes were identified and expressed differently across the health states, including personalized care, navigation, choice, holistic care and care continuity.
Why we need a single independent international hypertension clinical practice guideline - Hypertension Research
Clinical practice guidelines are assumed to be based on the best available evidence using the principles of evidence-based medicine. Because hypertension is a global problem and the global body of high-quality evidence is available to all, we question the justification for individual countries developing their own guidelines. Unfortunately, many countries have indeed developed and published country-specific hypertension guidelines [1].
D.C. Set to Probe White Power Ties Among Police Ranks

Council has surfaced as a leading voice demanding an investigation into alleged connections between Metropolitan Police Department [MPD] officers and white supremacist groups. As for those found guilty of the allegation, some city leaders have called for the officers to be dismissed from the force. Acting Police Chief Robert J. Contee III addressed his concerns during an interview on Feb.
Trends and determinants of newborn mortality in Kyrgyzstan: a Countdown country case study
Summary Background Kyrgyzstan has made considerable progress in reducing child mortality compared with other countries in the region, despite a comparatively low economic standing. However, maternal mortality is still high. Given the availability of an established birth registration system, we aimed to comprehensively assess the trends and determinants of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health in Kyrgyzstan.
