Two more Metropolitan Police officers have been dismissed after making comments that glorified the use of force against detainees at Charing Cross police station in central London. PCs Kheava Gould-Ryan and Fernando Santos Dos Santos were sacked without notice following misconduct hearings this week, the force said. They are the latest officers to lose their jobs following evidence gathered during an undercover BBC Panorama investigation. The Met said 10 officers had been dismissed as a result.

London mayor scraps plan for 2025 zero-emission zone
Plans to introduce a zero-emission zone (Zez) in central London from 2025 have been shelved by City Hall. The scheme, which was detailed in the London mayor's 2018 transport strategy, proposed a charge be introduced for all petrol and diesel vehicles. The existing Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez) was expanded to include every borough in London earlier on Tuesday. City Hall said it would support councils who wished to introduce a Zez within their boroughs.

John Whyte, who was a well-known face in the town and often based himself on Mill Street, died on Sunday. Maggie Falconer, the founder of Cheshire Streetwise, had known John for around four years and described him as a man who was always "polite" and "very respectful" to the volunteers.

At around 5am yesterday (13th April), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a bungalow in Woodlands Park, Congleton. Police have confirmed no one was injured after a car was left on its roof on the Silk Road in Macclesfield yesterday afternoon. A police spokesperson said there were two people in the black Volkswagen Golf, both of whom were able to get out of the vehicle. In a Facebook post, police said the incident was the result of "wreckless driving". No arrests have been made in relation to the one vehicle collision.

Car overturned in Macclesfield partially closes lane on the Silk Road
A car was left on its roof this evening following an incident on the Silk Road, just off the roundabout leading to the Tesco Superstore. The car appears to be a black Vauxhall Astra. From the scene of the incident, Nub News can report that police have partially closed one of the southbound lanes on the Silk Road. Emergency vehicle sirens could be heard heading to the incident around 5pm. A number of police officers remain at the scene. There has been no confirmation of injuries.

A care home is offering Macclesfield District General Hospital the use of a 30-bed unit, free of charge, to help in the local fight against coronavirus. Capital Care Group, the owners of Weston Park care home, on Moss Lane in Macclesfield has made the offer to the East Cheshire NHS Trust amid a national effort to increase critical care bed capacity. The care home provides residential respite and specialist dementia care to the Macclesfield community.
