Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty and Stenting for Symptomatic Intracranial Stenosis After SAMMPRIS: Patient Selection and Clinical Outcomes
Submitted: 19 November 2025 You are already at the latest version Background/ Objectives; After negative results of the SAMMPRIS-trial the indication for endovascular treatment of atherosclerotic intracranial artery stenosis (ICAS) was widely restricted. It was the aim of our study to report whether intracranial arterial percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting (PTAS) as ultima ratio therapy is still effective and safe enough.
Non-apoptotic caspase-8 is critical for orchestrating exaggerated inflammation during severe SARS-CoV-2 infection - Nature Communications
Abstract Inflammation and excess cytokine release are hallmarks of severe COVID-19. While programmed cell death is known to drive inflammation, its role in SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis remains unclear. Using gene-targeted murine COVID-19 models, we here find that caspase-8 is critical for cytokine release and inflammation. Loss of caspase-8 reduces disease severity and viral load in mice, and this occurs independently of its apoptotic function.

IL-1β drives SARS-CoV-2-induced disease independently of the inflammasome and pyroptosis signalling - Cell Death & Differentiation
Abstract Excessive inflammation and cytokine release are hallmarks of severe COVID-19. Certain programmed cell death processes can drive inflammation, however, their role in the pathogenesis of severe COVID-19 is unclear. Pyroptosis is a pro-inflammatory form of regulated cell death initiated by inflammasomes and executed by the pore-forming protein gasdermin D (GSDMD).
Opinion: CT's reckless energy policies fuel housing crisis Original
Connecticut residents and businesses all suffered quite an initial shock at the magnitude of the July and August electric bill increases. Increasing costs on residents and businesses is a vicious cycle, because the only sustainable way to improve affordability in Connecticut is if our state’s anemic economy once again begins to thrive with better jobs and higher salaries which, in turn, create better opportunities for residents statewide.
Prevalence, recovery and phenotype of dysphagia in patients with ischaemic cerebellar stroke
INTRODUCTION Swallowing is a complex task, moderated by a sophisticated bilateral network including the cerebral cortices, subcortical regions, brainstem and cerebellum. Hence, lesions to this widely distributed swallowing network might be expected to result in acute post-stroke dysphagia. In this context, numerous studies showed that the incidence, severity and recovery of dysphagia after stroke is related to lesion location and size. Moreover, a recent study by Warnecke et al.

Relevance of dedicated multiple sclerosis serum biomarkers in predicting contrast enhancement with gadolinium: Results from the REDUCE‐GAD trial
DISCUSSION The comparison of different serum biomarkers in patients with MS for the prediction of CE with GBCA in MRI lesions yielded the most promising results for NfL. Its serum concentration correlated with occurrence, number and diameter of CE lesions. Values above 14.1 pg/mL were likely to be associated with CE and values above 59.2 pg/mL were only observed in conjunction with CE.
Strike - Experts warn: Everyone will pay for this strike
It should be a historic strike day! The trade unions ver.di and EVG want on Monday paralyze Germany. Long-distance trains, buses, trains and airports are on strike. Affected: millions of commuters, students, travelers. Ver.di boss Frank Werneke (55) in the BamS: “The labor dispute will not fail to have an effect.” Employers, on the other hand, have strongly criticized the strike in Germany. They warn of a cost shock for citizens and companies.
“Increasingly undemocratic”: Economic uprising against the government
Frustration explosion in the economy! In a letter to the federal ministers (available to BILD), 20 associations complained about their cooperation with the government. One accusation: business is involved too little and too late in the preparation of laws. The associations complain that this procedure is “undemocratic and also questionable under constitutional law”. They criticize this “strongly because the federal government is thus moving away from democratic processes”.

Is this politician’s resignation cool?: “My tank is empty!”
Bang in New Zealand: Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern (42) resigns! She wants to give up her post after 6 years on February 7th, according to Ardern. Justification with tears: “Politicians are people. We give it our all while we can. My tank is empty.” Ardern had made headlines worldwide, including for her sympathy after the attacks on 2 mosques and her tough Corona course. Jan W. Schäfer: The resignation is correct because… … he is human: No one can consistently perform at the same top level for years.
For houses and apartments: This is how expensive it will be for heirs in 2023
Inheriting a house or an apartment will be significantly more expensive for many from 2023! At what time? That was previously unclear. Now the real estate association Haus & Grund (H&G) has recalculated. BILD has received the first results for specific cases: according to this, heirs will have to pay tens of thousands of euros more than before.
Measurement of prothrombin fragment 1+2 in cerebrospinal fluid to identify thrombin generation in inflammatory central nervous system diseases
Highlights • PF1.2 can be reliably measured in cerebrospinal fluid with an immunoassay. • PF1.2 correlates with fibrinogen and D-dimer, indicating active coagulation. • PF1.2 levels in CSF do not distinguish between MS and disease controls. • Thrombin generation in MS likely requires increased BBB permeability.
Measurement of prothrombin fragment 1+2 in cerebrospinal fluid to identify thrombin generation in inflammatory central nervous system diseases
Levels of PF1.2 in CSF of patients with a chronic inflammatory disease of the CNS correlated strongly with D-dimer in cerebrospinal fluid. Similarly, a significant correlation between PF1.2 and fibrinogen in CSF was observed.
The effectiveness of ECB euro liquidity lines
Silvia Albrizio, Ivan Kataryniuk, Luis Molina Sánchez, Jan Schaefer 29 September 2021 Swap and repo lines have become an integral part of the ECB’s toolkit. During the Global Crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic, the ECB announced more than 28 agreements to provide euro liquidity to foreign exchange markets, mainly within Europe. This column shows that the mere announcement instilled confidence in foreign exchange markets, reducing the premium paid by recipient country agents to borrow euros.
Probing the Mineral-Water Interface with Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy
Abstract The interaction between minerals and water is manifold and complex: the mineral surface can be (de)protonated by water, thereby changing its charge; mineral ions dissolved into the aqueous phase screen the surface charges. Both factors affect the interaction with water. Intrinsically molecular‐level processes and interactions govern macroscopic phenomena, such as flow‐induced dissolution, wetting, and charging.

Evidence for auto-catalytic mineral dissolution from surface-specific vibrational spectroscopy
Dissolution of silica changes the ionic strength of interfacial water since some of its dissolution products are known to be charged. Monosilicic acid, for example, may mainly exist as an over-protonated (i.e., positively charged) species at neutral pH5. Therefore, dissolution may cause changes in the surface charge of silica as well as the screening of that charge by nearby ions, i.e., the Debye length.
