The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office says it has identified the last unknown victim in the high-profile cold case commonly known as the Bear Brook murders. Rea Rasmussen was just a few years old when she was murdered by her father and then discarded in a barrel near Bear Brook State Park, likely between 1978 and 1981, authorities believe. Previously referred to by investigators as “the middle child,” she was one of four victims found in barrels near the state park.

Testing reveals DNA evidence in alleged wrongful conviction in New Hampshire murder case

A forensic laboratory has confirmed the presence of DNA evidence that could provide answers in the case of Jason Carroll, a man who has spent more than three decades in prison for a murder he says he did not commit. According to court documents filed Thursday, the New Hampshire State Police Forensic Lab recently found DNA on several items connected to the 1988 killing of Sharon Johnson. The items had not previously been DNA tested.

Jury deliberations began Friday in the trial of Bradley Asbury, 70, a former state employee who stands accused of acting as an accomplice in the rape of a 14-year-old boy at the state’s juvenile jail – then known as the Youth Development Center (YDC) – in the late 1990s.
