Risch Denies Using Obscure Idaho Law to Skip Election
ncwlife.comupdated 1m agofirst covered Oct 5, 6:15 PM ET Read the original ↗ Senator Jim Risch's campaign is pushing back hard against rumors that he might invoke an obscure 1917 Idaho law to avoid running in the upcoming Senate election. The campaign flatly denies these claims as completely false, but the very existence of such speculation raises questions about what options politicians think they have when facing electoral challenges.

I can’t tell what Sen. Risch does. Why should we send him back? | Opinion Original
What exactly does Risch do? Sen. James Risch, 83 years old, with a net worth estimated around $50 million, asks Idaho to renew his Senate seat for another six years. Rather than sleepwalk through another entire six year term, he’ll hand off his senate seat to another MAGA, leaving behind a questionable legacy. Risch voted to confirm the most incompetent heads of major agencies in our history. Risch explained he merely confirmed what the president wanted.
Keeping Idaho’s local gems strong
National Small Business Week is a celebration of something we in Idaho know all too well: small businesses aren’t just part of our state’s economy; they are the economy. We are home to more than 207,000 small businesses, which make up over 99% of all Gem State companies and employ hundreds of thousands of hardworking Idahoans. Supporting small businesses has been a top priority of mine throughout my time in public service.
OPINION: Religious freedom is a gift worth protecting
The Christmas season is a time when many Idaho families, including my own, gather in churches, at tree lightings, and around the kitchen table to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. These traditions may seem simple, but they rest on an inalienable and natural right protected by our Constitution: the freedom to worship according to our religion. Religious liberty has been a cornerstone of our nation for nearly 250 years.

Republicans look to redirect global AIDS relief that Biden used to promote abortion
The President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief is supposed to be a major lifesaving program from the United States to the world. Under then-President Joe Biden, however, it was used to promote abortion abroad. Now, Republicans in Congress are seeking to remove the PEPFAR’s promotion of abortion through its sponsorship of organizations that support the procedure abroad and through greater safeguards to prevent the funding from illegally going to abortion.

Protect U.S. hydropower on the Northwest’s Snake River
President Biden’s radical green agenda is an assault on Americans’ way of life, especially in Western states. The most recent target: The four lower Snake River dams in southeastern Washington that provide clean, reliable energy to thousands of homes and businesses across the Northwest. In a flagrant demonstration of hypocrisy, the Biden administration wants to remove this clean energy infrastructure under the guise of environmentalism.
Senators Unite to Defend Potato's Vegetable Status in Dietary Guidelines
WASHINGTON - This week, U.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) an several colleagues wrote U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Thomas Vilsack and U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra opposing any reclassification of potatoes as a grain instead of a vegetable during the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs) process.
Opinion: 2023 Farming bill is an opportunity to property manage forests and disrupt endless wildfires
This summer, residents on the east coast experienced something we Idahoans face every year: wildfire smoke. While the smoke from the Canadian wildfires grabbed headlines, it paled in comparison to what Idahoans and other westerners experience each summer. A new fire season is already underway, and the potential for this season does not hint at a restful summer for the wildland firefighters who contain the flames or the Idahoans who will live with the consequences.
Senate Republicans pitch competing NDAA amendments on Ukraine aid oversight
A pair of competing National Defense Authorization Act amendments from Senate Republicans that would each boost congressional oversight of US assistance to Ukraine went head-to-head on the floor on Wednesday evening. The first came from Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee and staunch proponent of backing Ukraine against Russia's military invasion. Sen.
Idahoans support dams on Snake
Hydropower is an important source of reliable and clean energy for everyone in the. However, with the recent debate surrounding the Snake River dams concentrated on the benefits for and support in Washington state, we want to emphasize just how significant an effect these dams have on Idaho and why we must continue to protect them.
Coons suggests House and Senate appropriations fight may cause government shutdown
Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) appeared to suggest on Friday that Congress was headed toward a government shutdown this fall amid a contentious appropriations fight that has seen the House and Senate write and pass funding bills at different spending levels. Coons's comment came at the end of a panel discussion at this year's Aspen Security Forum alongside Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Jim Risch (R-ID) as the trio debated how to address Sen.
Biden struggling to get nominees over the finish line despite Senate majority
Despite enjoying many of the perks of a Democratic majority in the Senate, the Biden administration is struggling to get nominees over the finish line in a series of confirmation processes that have turned contentious. President Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Federal Aviation Administration became the latest casualty of the polarized environment when he withdrew from consideration on Monday amid scrutiny of his record.
Guest Opinion: Defending state sovereignty over land, water, wildlife is in Idaho’s DNA
In Idaho, fighting the feds is in our DNA. We’re proud of a long history of protecting our state’s sovereignty over our land, water, and wildlife, and in the past month alone we’ve stepped up and demonstrated yet again our penchant for defending Idaho’s unique way of life. Idaho’s entire way of life depends on one important resource – water.
Opinion: The next grid attack is coming; Idaho Can Help
Imagine if homes across Idaho lost power and heat without warning. That happened recently in North Carolina when criminals attacked a pair of electrical substations, cutting off power to tens of thousands of people for nearly a week. That event rightfully garnered national attention and scrutiny, but what may have escaped notice is that several similar grid attacks recently played out much closer to home.

Biden Gifting Venezuela Sanctions Relief Hurts US Energy Producers, Consumers
Written by Sens. John Barrasso and Jim Risch on Dec 5, 2022. Posted in Latest news President Joe Biden gave an early Christmas present to one of the worst human rights abusers in the world: Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro and his regime. Easing sanctions on Venezuela is bad energy policy for America. It’s bad foreign policy. It’s bad environmental policy. Biden’s giveaway is terrible for American energy producers and consumers.
Crapo: Biden administration's lax border policies have opened the floodgates inundating Idaho
The Biden administration’s “catch and release” and porous border policies give drug cartels easy access to distribute deadly drugs, traffic unsuspecting victims, and leave a wake of violence in our neighborhoods. We must secure our border immediately.

Commentary: President Biden’s illegal immigrants outnumber Idahoans
More than 3 million people have been caught trying to illegally cross the southern border since President Biden took office. Taken together, the number would beat out Chicago for the third largest city in America. That would fill Boise State’s Albertsons Stadium 82 times. It exceeds the entire population of Idaho by more than 1 million people.
Guest Opinion: Idaho veterans deserve an accurate electronic health records system
We owe it to Idaho veterans to ensure they get proper access to the services they deserve. These include ensuring systems designed to streamline veterans’ services so they do not prevent them from getting the medicines and other resources they need.

Biden's democracy summit already sending wrong signals to authoritarian regimes
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! This year, 2021, has been a record-breaking one in many ways, and unfortunately, according to Freedom House’s 2020 Freedom of the World Report, the world is at a 15-year low for "Free countries" and a 15-year high of "Not Free countries." We find democracy in retreat across the globe, and the trends are more worrying each day.
Guest Opinion: Who is responsible for the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle?
The catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan has been thoroughly canvassed. The Biden administration’s failures in its retreat have been discussed at length. The fallout from President Joe Biden’s decision to leave Afghanistan the way we did will tarnish America’s reputation. All of this has been covered. Why, then, is it still important to talk about it now?
The U.S. Must Reject a ‘Sole Purpose’ Nuclear Policy
Jim Risch Defense News October 26, 2021 (AP Photo/Susan Walsh, Pool) For decades, U.S. administrations have embraced a policy of strategic ambiguity regarding the use of nuclear weapons. While administrations have considered shifting to a no first use policy, they inevitably understood it would damage U.S. and allied security. Indeed, the Obama administration studied this closely and rejected such a policy change not once, but twice.

Jim Risch: Idaho economy is poised for a comeback … if we only let it
Whenever I visit a small business around Idaho, I ask them, “What is the greatest challenge you face?” For years, the most common response was the IRS or burdensome government regulations. Last year, business owners cited the pandemic. Now almost unanimously, the response is, “We cannot find enough people to work.” This will come as no surprise to anyone in Idaho. You need only walk down the street of any city or town to see “Help Wanted” signs in nearly every shopfront window.

Guest opinion: Idaho's farmers need our support
Farming is not famed for its predictability. Every season, farmers and ranchers brace for the unknown: unforeseeable weather, difficult growing conditions, volatile markets, and a multitude of other challenges that can deliver a windfall harvest, or 12 hard months of barely scraping by.
