How biometrics can improve the security and efficiency of air travel
I’ve spent my career working to strengthen the security of our nation. First, as a federal organized crime prosecutor and then as a Member of Congress and leader on the House Homeland Security Committee focused on the security of our travel and transportation system. The reality is the United States remains a top target for terrorists and other bad actors. We must remain vigilant and prioritize security investments to adapt to the ever-evolving threat landscape.

It's time to step up efforts to maximize the CHIPS and Science Act
Just over a year ago, Congress passed, and the President signed into law, the historic CHIPS and Science Act. While we served for varied amounts of time in Congress, we governed with similar goals in mind: to pursue policies that spur economic growth, support domestic manufacturing and strengthen our national security. We voted for the CHIPS and Science Act because it promised to deliver on these goals.

China is using our own technology against us - this is how we fight back
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! China’s recent test of a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile was largely condemned, but few stopped to question exactly how China got its hands on this technology. For years, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has sought to undermine American intellectual property by targeting our academic institutions, conducting cyber espionage, and forcing the transfer of technology.

We need DHS now more than ever
ANALYSIS/OPINION: It has become instinctual to say, “I remember where I was” on that Tuesday morning 20 years ago that shook our nation. The words “Never Forget” continue to ring out as a somber reminder of the fragility of our national security and a commitment always to honor those lives lost. The attacks on 9/11 fundamentally altered the security posture of the United States and the way we engage the world.

Biden’s border policies are worsening the opioid crisis
The latest data on the opioid crisis shows how the COVID-19 pandemic reversed the progress America was making in decreasing drug overdose deaths. More than 90,000 Americans died of overdoses between September 2019 and September 2020. Last year, drug overdose deaths rose by more than 27 percent in New York and more than 24 percent in Ohio. Based on current trends, we expect 2021 to be as bad, if not worse.
Rep. John Katko: Biden's Border Crisis -- Every state is now a border state Original
As the crisis at the southwest border rapidly intensifies, every state has now become a border state, and every community is affected by this administration’s destructive policies. As Border Patrol resources are shifted from the northern and coastal borders to aid overwhelmed and overextended law enforcement at the southwest border, we expose ourselves to serious national security threats.

OPINION: Biden Created Disorder at the Border
Rep. John Katko (R–Camillus), ranking member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, speaks at a news conference in Washington, D.C. on March 11 to discuss what he says is the crisis at the U.S. border with Mexico. (PHOTO CREDIT: KATKO PRESS OFFICE) What we are witnessing [currently at the U.S. border with Mexico] of course is “Biden’s Border Crisis.” If you want to think of it another way, it’s disorder at the border by executive order.
How the Government Can Double Down on Cybersecurity
Rep. John Katko (R-NY) is Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security. He is also a former federal prosecutor. OPINION — It should not come as a surprise to anyone reading this article that we find ourselves in the wake of two significant cyber incidents. While we are still learning each day about the nature of the respective compromises, their causes, and how to best remediate, we now know enough to have a general idea of how to be more resilient going forward.

Rep. John Katko: Biden's border crisis - here's what happened in record time, and where this will lead
In the week leading up to President Biden’s inauguration, caravans of migrants began making their way to the United States fueled by his rhetoric. This is the direct result of the policies Biden preached on the campaign trail and the executive orders implemented in the early days of his administration. Our Central American partners will only be able to hold the line on stopping these caravans for so long before efforts become futile.

Attendees have the opportunity to engage in second-to-none policy sessions, interact with federal officials and participate in congressional briefings and meetings. Katko: The Citizen editorial was unfair and unreasonable
I write to address the mischaracterization of my position on the current impasse in Washington, as presented in the Jan. 23 editorial by this newspaper. I have been clear from the start: I do not support government shutdowns. I will vote at every opportunity to re-open the government. And I support stronger border security. Despite the suggestion by this newspaper’s editorial board, these principles are not and do not need to be mutually exclusive.
ELECTION 2018 ESSAY: John Katko, U.S. Congress 24th District
Four years ago, you sent me to Washington to be a voice for our community in Congress. I gave up a career I loved as a federal narcotics and organized crime prosecutor to serve because our community deserved strong and independent leadership.Since coming to Congress, I’ve worked with both parties to prioritize the needs of Wayne, Cayuga, Onondaga, and Oswego counties.
50 million daily reasons for delaying the Health Insurance Tax
Imagine being charged nearly $50 million a day in taxes. This is exactly what will happen to American businesses and consumers in 2020 if Congress does not act once again to delay the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) this year. The HIT was initially included in the Affordable Care Act (ACA); it is essentially a sales tax on health insurance coverage that would hit employers and consumers with higher premiums. Smartly, Congress has enacted a common sense, bipartisan delay of this tax in recent years.
Working together on a permanent legislative solution for Dreamers
Washington is broken. That’s not a campaign slogan or hyper-partisan rhetoric, that is a fact. While gridlock plagues our system of governance, there are rare occasions when our elected officials rise above the partisan gamesmanship and decide to take bold action. There are issues that shake Congress out of complacency and require urgent collaboration. Providing a permanent legislative solution for Dreamers is one of those issues.
Secret Service Recruitment and Retention Act of 2018 (H.R. 3731)
H.R. 3731, would remove certain limits on overtime pay earned by employees of the Secret Service who either provided protective services in calendar year 2017 or will provide them in 2018. Under current law, the Secret Service are prohibited from being paid overtime after reaching the maximum annual salary for the pay rate of GS-15. The Service recently reported more than 1,000 agents—a third of the workforce—have already maxed-out on their annual overtime and salary under this pay cap.
Letter: Todd Hood dedicated to law enforcement
I write to offer my support for Todd Hood. I’ve known Todd for many years and believe he would serve Madison County well as Sheriff. During my time as a federal prosecutor, I had the opportunity to work alongside Todd on the Syracuse Gang Violence Task Force for nearly 10 years. I witnessed firsthand his service and sacrifice.
Congress must lead on suicide prevention
Mental health wellness advocates recognize September as Suicide Prevention Awareness month, a time to mourn those lost to suicide and share stories of hope. This recognition comes at a troubling time, as suicide remains the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S., involving tremendous pain and loss for thousands of families and communities each year. Compounding this suffering, recent studies indicate that the U.S. suicide rate is at a 30-year high.

The new statue shows Agent Terry carrying a member of his team on his shoulders and was unveiled over the weekend at the Brian A.
Extremists Without Borders
This week, world leaders are taking stock of global efforts to prevent the flow of foreign fighters into Syria and Iraq. As members of a bipartisan task force created by the House Committee on Homeland Security to review the issue, we believe urgent action is needed to stop more individuals from traveling to the conflict zone. Today, after six months of examining the danger from foreign fighters, we are issuing our final report, which proposes ways to combat the threat.
