Antimicrobial Resistance Microbiological Dataset (ARMD-UTSW): Electronic Health Record Based Data for Research
Abstract As antibiotic resistance transformed into a global public health emergency, resources based on real world electronic health record (EHR) data were essential for the development of tools that can identify clinical intervention opportunities. We developed the Antimicrobial Resistance Microbiological Dataset (ARMD-UTSW), a standardized, deidentified collection of records from a large, urban, quaternary health system.

BC Court of Appeal Confirms Low Bar for Certification: Lessons from McKinsey & Company v British Columbia
On June 25, 2026, the British Columbia Court of Appeal released its decision in McKinsey & Company v British Columbia, dismissing McKinsey's appeal from an order certifying a class action against it as part of the broader opioid litigation in Canada. The decision is significant for both consultants and other professionals, but it is also important for anyone tracking the “one-step versus two-step” debate over how plaintiffs prove commonality at certification.

BRIDGE: benchmarking large language models for understanding real-world clinical practice texts
Abstract Large language models (LLMs) are evolving rapidly and hold great promise for medical applications, yet benchmarking on real-world clinical data such as electronic health records remains limited. Most existing benchmarks rely on medical examination-style questions or PubMed-derived text, failing to capture the complexity of clinical practice, while others target specific application scenarios with limited generalizability.
New Level Unlocked: Loot Box Class Action Survives Appeal
Video game “loot boxes” – digital mystery packages that generate random virtual items in exchange for real money – are a multi-billion-dollar business. But are they deceptive? Unconscionable? Illegal gambling? In Electronic Arts Inc v Sutherland, the British Columbia Court of Appeal weighed in on all three questions, dismissed both Electronic Arts’ (EA) appeal and Mr. Sutherland’s cross-appeal, and allowed a certified class action over the sale of loot boxes to proceed.

What the AI era doctor should know: a scoping review of proposed artificial intelligence competencies for medical education
Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping healthcare and the competencies expected of graduating medical students, yet AI curricula and competency recommendations for undergraduate medical education (UME) remain fragmented. We conducted a PRISMA-ScR scoping review to map and synthesize proposed AI competencies for UME by performing a global search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and ERIC without language restrictions and from database inception through July 28, 2025.

Pulmonary neuroendocrine cell–derived exosomes regulate iron homeostasis and oxidative stress in lung neurons
Abstract Nicotine, the principal addictive component of cigarettes, is linked to cognitive decline and neurodegenerative alterations, likely through oxidative stress and impaired iron regulation in neurons. Yet, underlying molecular pathways remain unclear. This study examined the role of pulmonary neuroendocrine cells (PNECs) in smoke-induced neural changes. Using human pluripotent stem cells, we generated induced PNECs (iPNECs) to overcome culture limitations and performed mechanistic analyses.

From tool to teammate in a randomized controlled trial of clinician-AI collaborative workflows for diagnosis
Abstract Early studies of large language models (LLMs) in clinical settings have largely treated artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool rather than an active collaborator. As LLMs demonstrate expert-level diagnostic performance, the focus shifts from whether AI can offer valuable suggestions to how it integrates into physicians’ diagnostic workflows. We conducted a randomized controlled trial (n = 70 clinicians) to assess a custom system designed for collaborative diagnostic reasoning.
A clinical environment simulator for dynamic AI evaluation
|
Abstract Clinical evaluation of large language models (LLMs) currently relies on static datasets and isolated scenarios that fail to capture the cascading effects of healthcare decisions. We propose the Clinical Environment Simulator (CES), a framework that evaluates clinical LLMs within digital hospital environments where every decision dynamically alters future states.

A typology of physician input approaches to using AI chatbots for clinical decision-making
Democracy dies not just in darkness, but in a sea of dark money that funds absolute stupidity. What MAGA is doing is fueling a race to the bottom. …is that greatness? Nope ….it is the OPPOSITE of greatness …it is the destruction of greatness. It is time to admit that you have been grifted. I know, for the narcissist crowd, it’s really hard to admit that you made a mistake, but, ignore it at your peril. You have been warned …countless times.

While Eyes Are on Takaichi, Taiwan’s Lai Is Quietly Redefining the Status Quo
This month, Sanae Takaichi put the whole region on edge during a debate in the Diet’s Budget Committee. She explicitly categorized a Chinese blockade of Taiwan as a “survival-threatening situation” for Japan—the legal condition triggering the right of collective self-defense—thereby shattering decades of strategic ambiguity. Beijing’s reaction was visceral. The escalating war of words between China and Japan has captured everyone’s attention.

The 2025 AmeriCup: disappointment, development, and the road to LA 2028
After a strong 4-0 start to the 2025 AmeriCup, Team Canada limped to the finish line, finishing fourth for the second straight time and returned home once again without a medal. It’s a disappointing result, and even more so when considering how the SMNT lost their final two games. Rather than lose two close thrillers, Canada was dominated for nearly all 80 minutes, trailing by as much as 25 against Argentina in the semifinals and 17 to the USA in the Bronze medal game.
Argentina dominates Canada in AmeriCup semifinals
The lone undefeated team left at the 2025 AmeriCup, Canada suffered their first loss in a beatdown at the hands of the defending AmeriCup champions. Argentina came out swinging in the first quarter, starting the game on an 11-0 run over the first four minutes. Meanwhile, it was a discombobulated, disjointed mess from the SMNT, especially on the offensive end as they didn’t record a single FG in the first eight minutes of the game, missing their first eight attempts and turning it over three times.
Canada off to the AmeriCup semifinals, rout Colombia
Canada’s reward for a top finish in the group stages was a quarterfinal match against Colombia, a nation celebrating their first-ever top-eight AmeriCup finish. In one of the more routine and uneventful knockout games of the tournament Canada dominated from the opening whistle, cruising to a comfortable 94-56 victory. In the first quarter, Canada made it a point of emphasis to establish their dominance inside.
Canada outlast Puerto Rico, win Group B
Despite both Canada and Puerto Rico having already clinched a 2025 AmeriCup quarterfinals berth, there was still plenty of incentive for the SMNT to win their final Group B contest. With the way the rest of the tournament was shaking out (including the USA suffering an upset loss to Uruguay), Canada had a chance to clinch the top seed heading to the knockout stages, and all but guarantee a quarterfinals matchup against the lowest seeded, Colombia.
Canada race to a 2-0 start at the 2025 AmeriCup
Take care of business. That’s exactly what the SMNT did against the two weaker opponents in Group B, cruising to two dominant victories to open up the 2025 AmeriCup. Dominant 88-54 opening victory for Canada at the AmeriCup.

Ontario Court Of Appeal Overturns Certification Of BMW Class Action: The Limits Of Negligence Claims For Defective Products
In North v Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the Ontario Court of Appeal delivered a significant ruling on the boundaries of product liability in negligence. The decision confirms that negligence claims for pure economic loss in product liability cases can only succeed in narrow circumstances. For class action and product liability lawyers, the case serves as a reminder of the limits that govern certification in negligence-based claims.

It wasn’t pretty, but Canada Basketball got it done, despite falling to Mexico 98-94. Entering the game, Canada was in comfortable position to qualify for the 2025 AmeriCup. With the Dominican Republic routing Nicaragua and clinching the second last spot, the SMNT needed either: a win against Mexico OR a loss against Mexico by 18 points or less Certainly not an impossible task for a roster that had a good mix of talent and FIBA experience.
