WASHINGTON (7News) — Thursday will be one of the hottest days of the year so far, with heat index values expected to reach 100 to 105 degrees during the afternoon. A Weather Alert is in effect as dangerous heat builds across the D.C. area, followed by the chance for strong to severe thunderstorms later in the day. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for D.C., Arlington and counties east of I-95.

Severe weather recap (7News) Part of that was the buildup heading into the day. Over the weekend, the Storm Prediction Center placed part of the Mid-Atlantic in a Level 4 out of 5 risk, a rare designation for the D.C. region.
