And many of our founding fathers not only drafted the Declaration of Independence, but they were diligent weather observers as well. The first recorded weather observations in modern day America were taken by John Holm along the Delaware River in the 1640s, more than 100 years before the Declaration of Independence was even a spark of an idea.

ENDERLIN — June of 2025 was a stormy month, but June 20 looked to be particularly tornadic. So much so, storm chasers flocked to North Dakota. A record 82 tornadoes touched down in North Dakota in 2025. More than a quarter of those occurred June 20. It was the fifth day in a row of strong to severe storms in the region and by far looked to be the worst weather of the week.

And if it wasn’t for the F-5 Fargo tornado in 1957, the Fujita scale that classifies tornadoes may not exist today. Because of the numerous photos of the Fargo tornado from start to finish and the immense destruction documented in its wake, Dr. Tetsuya Fujita developed the initial framework for the Fujita scale.
