Efficacy and safety analysis of consolidation immunotherapy following definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Abstract Background: Definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (dCRT) is standard for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), but recurrences remain common. Evidence for consolidation immunotherapy after dCRT is limited. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of consolidation immunotherapy after dCRT and explored the association between programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression and treatment outcomes.

Supercritical solar desalination for high-salinity brine treatment and zero liquid discharge
Abstract Conventional solar-thermal desalination underutilizes the high-grade heat available from concentrating solar technologies, constraining exergy efficiency and high-salinity brine treatment. This Perspective explores supercritical solar desalination as a high-temperature pathway toward zero liquid discharge.
A Conserved DT2-bZIP66-NF-YC4 Regulatory Module Confers Drought Tolerance in Rice and Arabidopsis
1 Introduction Drought is a major environmental constraint on plant growth and agricultural productivity. Sessile plants have evolved a range of adaptive strategies to perceive and respond to drought stress, including morphological and structural adjustments, activation of drought-responsive genes, hormone production, and the accumulation of osmotic regulators [1-3].
Anisotropic electronic correlations in the spin density wave state of La 3 Ni 2 O 7
Abstract The bilayer nickelate superconductor La3Ni2O7 undergoes a density wave transition near 150 K that has attracted intensive scrutiny, yet its microscopic origin remains elusive. Here we report polarization-resolved electronic Raman scattering measurements on high-quality single crystals of La3Ni2O7. Below 150 K, we observe a pronounced, symmetry-dependent redistribution of spectral weight in B1g and B2g channels, consistent with the formation of spin-density-wave (SDW) gaps.
In vivo membrane engineering traps Gd-based MRI contrast agents for detecting microhepatocellular carcinoma
Abstract Accurate detection of microhepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a major clinical challenge owing to the limited specificity and sensitivity of current imaging modalities. Herein, we present a dual-injection magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) peptidic probe based on in vivo membrane engineering, achieving in situ signal amplification and molecularly precise imaging.
Resection of a giant paravertebral retroperitoneal schwannoma via the weaver approach: a case report on technical refinements and surgical considerations
Abstract Objective: This study aims to evaluate the surgical feasibility, technical refinements, and clinical outcomes of resecting a giant paravertebral retroperitoneal schwannoma using the Weaver intermuscular approach. It also emphasizes key anatomical considerations, surgical techniques, and potential pitfalls to guide spine and peripheral nerve surgeons in managing similarly complex lesions.
Challenges to research progression among part-time master’s students in nursing in China: a qualitative descriptive study
Abstract Introduction: Since 2017, master’s programs in nursing in China have admitted part-time candidates who remain in full-time clinical employment throughout their studies. Slow research progress among these students has become a recognized concern. In this study, slow research progress is conceptualized as a phenomenon arising from the interplay of conditions across several levels. Its observable marker is sustained delay in thesis-related milestones.
Phosphoproteomic Insights into the Metabolic Reprogramming of Cell Growth and Lipid Accumulation in Mucor circinelloides
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Mucor circinelloides is a model oleaginous fungus for studying microbial lipid accumulation, yet the post-translational mechanisms coordinating growth and lipid biosynthesis remain poorly understood. Here, we present the first systematic quantitative phosphoproteomic analysis of M. circinelloides across its life cycle, encompassing spores and mycelia at 6 h, 24 h (nitrogen depletion), and 96 h.

PT2, PT6, and SPX2 Responsible for Phosphate Uptake/Translocation May Also Be Involved in Antimonate Uptake
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Antimony (Sb) is a toxic and carcinogenic metalloid. Antimonite [Sb(III)] enters plant cells through aquaporins (AQPs), while antimonate [Sb(V)] may enter via transporters involved in the uptake of nitrate (NO3–), phosphate (PO43–), or chloride (Cl–). However, direct evidence of this hypothesis is still lacking.
Understanding gerontological nursing competence among nursing students in higher vocational colleges: a cross-sectional study
1 Introduction Research indicates that the number of older people is increasing in countries worldwide. However, countries are at different stages of the longevity trend (1). According to International Population Reports, the global population aged 65 years and older already accounts for 8.5% (617 million) of the world’s population and is expected to increase to nearly 17% (1.6 billion) by 2050 (2, 3).
Author Correction: Early Triassic super-greenhouse climate driven by vegetation collapse - Nature Communications
Correction to: Nature Communications https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-025-60396-y, published online 2 July 2025 In the version of the article initially published, there was an error in Fig. 1 where the range of time periods shown in the image header, now reading “251.9 ma – 246.7 ma” from left to right, were reversed in order. Additionally, in the “Reconstructing plant productivity” section, four instances of “Pt C/yr” have been amended to “Pg C/yr”.
A generalist foundation model and database for open-world medical image segmentation - Nature Biomedical Engineering
Abstract Vision foundation models have demonstrated vast potential in achieving generalist medical segmentation capability, providing a versatile, task-agnostic solution through a single model. However, current generalist models involve simple pre-training on various medical data containing irrelevant information, often resulting in the negative transfer phenomenon and degenerated performance.
Integrating Standardized Patient into Case-Based Learning in Posterior
Introduction Posterior fossa meningiomas pose a significant challenge in neurosurgical education due to their complex anatomy, limited surgical space, and diverse clinical presentations.1,2 This complexity often leads to considerable difficulty for trainees in mastering their diagnosis and management.3 Our recent research has shown that traditional face-to-face teaching is superior to online teaching in neurosurgery clinical courses.4 However, traditional face-to-face teaching methods, while...

Early Triassic super-greenhouse climate driven by vegetation collapse - Nature Communications
Abstract The Permian–Triassic Mass Extinction (PTME), the most severe crisis of the Phanerozoic, has been attributed to intense global warming triggered by Siberian Traps volcanism. However, it remains unclear why super-greenhouse conditions persisted for around five million years after the volcanic episode, with one possibility being that the slow recovery of plants limited carbon sequestration.

Multicenter evaluation of preoperative and standalone embolization in meningiomas
Introduction The inconsistency in the role of preoperative embolization for meningioma treatment is evident, with no reports of embolization as a standalone treatment plan. The main advantages of primary embolization include reducing intraoperative blood loss and softening solid tumors through post-embolization necrosis (1–3). However, significant heterogeneity exists in clinical outcomes (4–6).

Highly porous Ni/MgO-ZrO2 catalysts for dry reforming of methane and the effects of MgO addition on the mechanisms
The large amount of CO2 produced by the continuous consumption of non-renewable fossil fuels is the main cause of the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming, extreme weathers and other ecological problems [1], [2]. As an effective clean energy, natural gas is mainly composed of CH4, which is also a greenhouse gas [3].
