Irrigation drives dryland productivity gains in Asian endorheic basins
Abstract The ecologically fragile Asian Endorheic Basins (AEB) recently exhibited a pronounced productivity increase despite regional drying—a paradox known as the ‘greening despite drying’ dilemma. To quantify its drivers, we integrated satellite observations with Dynamic Global Vegetation Models (DGVMs) from 2001 to 2023.
Phenological fluctuations induce seasonal asymmetric warming in boreal forests
Abstract Phenological shifts in boreal forests alter land-atmosphere energy exchange, but annual averages mask pronounced seasonal contrasts in the magnitude and pathways of this feedback. Here we show that climate-driven phenological instability generates a systematic warming asymmetry: surface warming from leaf area loss exceeds the cooling from an equivalent gain.
Membranolytic peptide programs immunogenic cell death for cancer therapy
|
Abstract A rational design for facilitating innovative cell death modes can substantially aid advances in antitumour therapy1,2. Here we design and implement a unique mode of immunogenic membranolytic cell death (mLCD) in tumour cells, characterized by time-lagged rupture from the lysosomal to plasma membranes; this approach was found to robustly potentiate immune checkpoint blockade therapy.

Modeling of the electrostatic field generated by horizontal current sources in a sea-ice-covered four-layer medium
Abstract The distribution of the underwater electric field around a target in stratified media provides a crucial foundation for research on target detection and localization in marine environments. This paper proposed a four-layer analytical model (air–sea ice–seawater–seabed) to address the issue of electric field propagation in ocean environments involving sea ice.
Orbital coupling in bridge-mediated FeCu dual-atom catalysts for water decontamination
Abstract Dual-atom catalysts (DACs) hold significant promise for advanced oxidation processes. However, their practical applications are often limited by sluggish electron transfer and low atomic utilization efficiency. Herein, we report that P-bridged Fe-Cu dual-atom catalysts (FeCu-NP-C) are precisely modulated by first-shell N and P ligands, forming a unique N3Fe-P1-CuN3 structure.
Eastern and southern Asian gymnosperms are doomed to extinction under climate change
|
Abstract Gymnosperms play important ecological and evolutionary roles, but many species in Asia are increasingly threatened by climate change and habitat loss. Here we examined current gymnosperm diversity using species richness, geographic rarity and evolutionary uniqueness, and combined ecological niche modelling with measures of species richness to examine patterns of gymnosperm diversity in eastern and southern Asia under past, present, and future climates.

Effect of biodegradable magnesium foil as an anti-adhesion barrier on the healing of rat Achilles tendon
Abstract Magnesium is the fourth most abundant inorganic element in the human body, critical for skeletal development. Biodegradable magnesium materials have excellent biocompatibility and unique bioactivity, widely studied in orthopedics. Thus, we used a rat Achilles tendon injury model to evaluate magnesium foil s effects on adhesion, inflammation, and healing.
TASGAN: A Teacher-Advised Semi-Supervised GAN for Low-Resource Text Classification
1 Introduction Unlike Large Language Models (LLMs), capable of few-shot or even zero-shot adaptation via prompt learning, conventional pre-trained language models, such as BERT, typically follow a ‘Pre-training and Fine-tuning’ paradigm. This approach necessitates adapting model parameters to a downstream task using its specific labelled data.
Pathogenic germline variations and cancer risks in pediatric patients referred for genetic testing
|
Abstract Next-generation sequencing technologies have been widely applied in diagnosing genetic disorders in pediatric patients. However, the cancer predisposition and tumor characteristics in individuals who have germline pathogenic variants remain unclear. We analyzed exome sequencing data from 75,602 pediatric patients referred for genetic testing between January 2016 and January 2025, tracking cancer as a secondary finding.

Bending-fatigue-resistant hierarchical NiTi shape memory alloy
Abstract The bending fatigue resistance of superelastic shape memory alloys (SMAs) is a key determinant for their reliable function in cyclic applications such as biomedical implants, adaptive actuators, and elastocaloric devices. However, conventional NiTi alloys exhibit limited fatigue life due to premature crack initiation and propagation under cyclic tensile loading.

The safety margin of small-scale tree cover loss in global fragmented forests
|
Abstract Climatic and anthropogenic disturbances have led to intense small-scale tree cover loss in global forests. However, it remains unclear when forest attributes at a large scale (e.g., 0.05° resolution) will decline in response to such sub-grid (e.g., 30-m) tree cover losses within forest ecosystems.

Epithelial plasticity shapes intratumoral heterogeneity and cell lineages in early-stage lung cancer
Abstract Intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) has been investigated primarily in locally advanced or metastatic cancer; however, much less is known about ITH in early-stage cancer, and the origins of ITH are poorly understood. Through single-cell and spatial transcriptomics of early-stage ground-glass opacity (GGO)–like lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) (14 patients; 103,375 cells), we systematically define tumor states and demonstrate that pervasive transcriptional ITH exists in early-stage LUAD.

Pantropical moist forests are converging towards a middle leaf longevity - Nature Communications
Abstract Leaf longevity is a fundamental plant trait that largely explains ecosystem functional dynamics in global pantropical moist forests. However, the signs, magnitudes, and mechanisms of the spatiotemporal variations in leaf longevity with ongoing climate change are still lacking. Using both ground measurements and gridded leaf age-dependent leaf area index data, we map the continental-scale variability of annual mean leaf longevity across pantropical moist forests over 2001–2023.

Pervasive but biome-dependent relationship between fragmentation and resilience in forests - Nature Ecology & Evolution
Abstract The relationship between landscape fragmentation and vegetation resilience is uncertain. Here we use multiple satellite-based tree cover data and vegetation indices to quantify the apparent effects of fragmentation on global forest resilience and potential mechanisms thereof. We measure fragmentation as edge density, patch density and mean patch area of tree cover patches, and measure resilience as one-lag temporal autocorrelation of vegetation indices.
