YUMA, AZ (AZFamily) — Arizona’s unemployment rate edged up in May to 4.8%, slightly higher than the national rate of 4.2%, according to the latest state jobs report. Across the state, local numbers show a mixed picture — but in Yuma, unemployment remains far above most other cities. In the Phoenix–Mesa–Glendale metro area, the unemployment rate is 4.1%. In Yuma, it is 16%, a level that local leaders and service providers say is straining families and safety-net programs.
