Year-long Shoe City project nears completion in Mishawaka

You'll soon see some peculiar statues of sneakers popping up around Mishawaka. The year-long project comes from Mayor Dave Wood and several of our area high school students. The Mayor's Youth Council raised over $150,000 to install the city-wide art piece, and we have a sneak peek on Friday. Between 1950 and 1970, Mishawaka was commonly known as Shoe City, USA. That name was earned through the mass production of a cultural phenomenon fueled by the Ball Band Factory.

Volunteers gather to plant over 100 trees in Elkhart

The City of Elkhart is looking for your help to get 100 trees in the ground by the end of the day on Thursday. Volunteers will gather at Roosevelt Park to begin planting later on Thursday. This would push Elkhart closer to the goal of 2,000 trees planted by the end of 2028. The City of Elkhart is looking for your help to get 100 trees in the ground by the end of the day on Thursday. New lane restrictions in place as Ireland Road construction project enters final phase

Road work happening on Ireland Road is entering its final phase. This construction has been going on since April, and is now possibly just a month from completion. The project is expected to finish by the end of June, but drivers will see new lane restrictions happening Wednesday. The City of South Bend is asking drivers to stay alert with this new phase. Construction cones will be extended to go all the way toward Michigan Street.
