Mayor says property tax breaks are spurring new multi-family construction in Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A new housing project that broke ground in West Anchorage Friday is the first to begin construction under a new property tax program that gives developers a break for building multi-family housing. When completed next year, Raspberry Townhouses on Northwood Drive will offer 58 units of market-rate rental housing.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - More than 35 years ago, thousands of Anchorage residents purchased commemorative bricks to help fund Anchorage’s Town Square Park. Now, with major construction getting underway at the park, the city is removing more than 13,000 bricks and hoping to return them to their original owners or their families. “People donated their money and there’s memories on these bricks and people want to have that back,” said Nicolette Chimato with Anchorage Parks and Recreation.

Alaska Zoo welcomes new orphans

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Alaska Zoo recently welcomed four baby moose calves and a caribou calf. The animals, less than a month old, are all orphans that were brought to the zoo by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. “They are the ones who determine if a moose calf is truly orphaned or not,” said Zoo Curator Sam Lavin.
