An exploratory nomogram using nutritional and clinical predictors was temporally evaluated for surgical site infection after proximal humerus fracture surgery
Abstract Surgical site infection (SSI) is a serious complication after proximal humeral fracture (PHF) surgery in the elderly, yet nutritional status is rarely incorporated into risk prediction. This exploratory study aimed to evaluate nutritional assessment tools for SSI prediction and to integrate the most informative marker with clinical predictors into a preliminary nomogram. We retrospectively reviewed elderly patients who underwent surgery for closed PHFs between 2017 and 2022.
Ground-based radar unveils natural electron Bernstein waves in the ionosphere of Earth
Abstract Electron Bernstein waves (EBWs) are electrostatic modes that propagate perpendicular to the magnetic field in magnetized plasmas, serving as a diagnostic tool for understanding plasma properties and the energetic particles that drive energy transport. However, their naturally occurring harmonic structures have long eluded ground-based radar detection due to their faint signals and the requirement for an observational geometry nearly perpendicular to the geomagnetic field.
Wear-Related Visible Surface Alteration and Pseudomonas aeruginosa Adhesion in Orthokeratology Lenses
Introduction Orthokeratology is widely used as a non-surgical approach for myopia control in children and adolescents, with clinical studies, reviews, and meta-analyses supporting its effectiveness in slowing axial elongation.
Association of early anion gap with 28-day mortality: a landmark cohort study in MIMIC-IV with multicenter validation in eICU-CRD
Abstract Early laboratory measures in ICU studies are often defined over a post-admission window while follow-up starts at ICU admission, which can introduce time-window and immortal time bias. We evaluated the association between early anion gap (AG) and 28-day mortality using prespecified landmark analyses with external validation. We analyzed adult first ICU stays in MIMIC-IV (derivation) and eICU-CRD (external validation).
Landmark-based early perfusion phenotyping for prognostic stratification in septic shock: derivation in MIMIC-IV and fixed-parameter external transportability assessment in eICU
Abstract Background: Septic shock is clinically heterogeneous, and early perfusion failure may not be adequately captured by any single bedside variable. We aimed to derive a clinically interpretable early perfusion phenotyping framework within a landmark design and assess whether the high-risk phenotype contour could be transferred across critical care databases.
Pain control or brain protection: which mechanism defines esketamine?
Lin et al. reported on the use of intravenous esketamine for preventing emergence delirium and negative behavioural changes after paediatric adenotonsillectomy [1]. We commend the authors for their rigorous exploration of pharmacological strategies to mitigate the impact of surgical stress on neurodevelopment and behaviour in children.

Pressure Measurement Basics for Single-Screw Extruders
Measuring pressure at key locations in an extrusion line is very important to the analysis and safety of the process. A pressure transducer (sensor) at the discharge is by far the most critical location for measuring the pressure. If the discharge pressure becomes too high, safety issues can be a concern since the screen changers, gear pumps and dies must operate at pressures less than the maximum design pressure.

How Compression Ratio Impacts Extruder Performance
Single-screw extrusion at high rates and high qualities, and discharging at the proper temperature and pressure depends on numerous process features, including operational set points and the screw design. Two very important screw design parameters are the metering channel depth and the compression ratio. If the compression ratio is too low, low rates and low specific rates can occur. If the ratio is too high, melting rate limitations and high screw wear can occur.
A microengineered 3D human neurovascular unit model to probe the neuropathogenesis of herpes simplex encephalitis - Nature Communications
Abstract Herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) caused by HSV-1 is the most common non-epidemic viral encephalitis, and the neuropathogenesis of HSE remains elusive. This work describes a 3D human neurovascular unit (NVU) model that allows to explore the neuropathogenesis of HSE in vitro. This model is established by co-culturing human microvascular endothelial cells, astrocytes, microglia and neurons on a multi-compartment chip.

Assessing Environmental Sustainability in the Transnational Basin of the Tumen River Based on Remote Sensing Data and a Geographical Detector
1. Introduction Environmental sustainability refers to the maintenance of natural capital (i.e., the natural environment) and is the basis for achieving sustainable development. Based on Daly [] and Wu [,], environmental sustainability builds the basis for social and economic sustainability, which serves as a strong foundation for regional sustainable development. The encouragement of regional sustainable development is only possible through a complete awareness of environmental sustainability.

NK and NKT cells in the pathogenesis of Hidradenitis suppurativa: Novel therapeutic strategy through targeting of CD2
Abstract Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic debilitating inflammatory skin disease with poorly understood pathogenesis. Single-cell RNAseq analysis of HS lesional and healthy individual skins revealed that NKT and NK cell populations were greatly expanded in HS, and they expressed elevated CD2, an activation receptor. Immunohistochemistry analyses confirmed significantly expanded numbers of CD2+ cells distributed throughout HS lesional tissue, and many co-expressed the NK marker, CD56.

Comprehensive analysis of N6-methyladenosine-related RNA methylation in the mouse hippocampus after acquired hearing loss - BMC Genomics
In summary, this is the first study to present the m6A transcriptome-wide map about the mouse hippocampus following HL. The results provide novel insights into the dynamics of m6A modifications after HL, with indication that the FTO might play a critical role. Those findings expand our understanding of the role about m6A modifications and the underlying mechanisms contributing to cognitive impairment following HL from an epigenetic perspective.
RNAi-Mediated Functional Analysis Reveals the Regulation of Oocyte Vitellogenesis by Ecdysone Signaling in Two Coleoptera Species
1. Introduction Coleoptera is currently the most species-rich group, including about one fourth of all known insects with more than 360,000 described species on this planet. An enormous reproductive capacity is one of the main reasons for such domination [1]. To some extent, successful female reproduction depends on functioning vitellogenesis, a process that leads to the accumulation of vitellogenin (Vg) in the oocytes [2,3]. Insect Vgs are mainly produced in the fat body [3,4].

Requirement of Snakeskin for normal functions of midgut and Malpighian tubules in Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata
Abstract Septate junctions (SJs) are located between epithelial cells and play crucial roles in epithelial barrier formation and epithelia cell homeostasis. Nevertheless, the molecular constituents, especially those related to smooth SJs (sSJs), have not been well explored in non-Drosophilid insects. A putative integral membrane protein Snakeskin (Ssk) was identified in a Coleoptera foliar pest Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata.

Relative contributions of arterial stiffness to cardiovascular disease risk score in Chinese women in framingham and China-PAR model
1. Introduction Cardiovascular disease (CVD) poses a formidable medical challenge and stands as the leading cause of mortality among women worldwide (1). In fact, since 2000, there has been an increase in the incidence of CVD in women, including a rise in acute myocardial infarction among young women (2). Despite this, women remain underrepresented in CVD research. CVD events share several traditional risk factors, such as hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

A photothermal-response oxygen release platform based on a hydrogel for accelerating wound healing - NPG Asia Materials
Abstract During wound healing, oxygen availability and the anti-inflammatory microenvironment play an important role in the formation of new tissue. However, providing continuous and controllable oxygen around the injured tissue while inhibiting inflammation and realizing the synergistic effect of oxygen supply and anti-inflammation is still a major problem affecting the regeneration and repair of wound tissue.
