The sixth sense of the brain: interoception in organoid study
Abstract Interoception is the process by which the nervous system senses, integrates, and interprets signals arising from within the body, thereby enabling the brain to monitor and regulate physiological functions. Often described as a “sixth sense”, interoception links internal physiological states to brain-mediated homeostatic control, whereas sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch primarily convey information from the external environment.
ALKBH5 is required to maintain proper SETDB1 protein levels associated with meiotic sex chromosome inactivation
Abstract N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant RNA modification in eukaryotes. ALKBH5 is an m6A demethylase that is essential for spermatogenesis. However, its function in meiotic prophase remains elusive. Here, we report that Alkbh5-knockout spermatocytes exhibit normal double-strand break (DSB) formation, homologous recombination and synapsis on autosomes but impaired synapsis between sex chromosomes.
SBRT embedded in low-dose RT plus αPD-1 (immuno-EclipseRT, iERT) elicits CD8 + T cell immunity against bulky tumors via an IFN-I/NK/DC axis
|
Abstract Bulky tumors remain challenging to treat, and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), alone or combined with conventional radiotherapy (RT), yield limited efficacy. We present EclipseRT (ERT), an RT technique that delivers low-dose RT (LDRT) to the gross tumor volume (GTV) and stereotactic body RT (SBRT) to selected subvolume(s) within the GTV. Combined with ICIs (iERT), this approach achieves marked control of bulky tumors through the coordinated activity of NK and CD8⁺ T cells.

Skeletal-muscle-targeted non-viral delivery of full-length DMD mRNA for Duchenne muscular dystrophy
|
Abstract Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a severe, progressive muscle-wasting disorder caused by mutations in the DMD gene, which encodes dystrophin. Although gene therapy using viral vectors has shown promise for the treatment of DMD, the clinical application of viral gene therapies is limited by vector toxicity, immunogenicity and the inability to package full-length dystrophin.

Wood that bonds itself via homologous adhesion through cellulose reconstitution
|
Abstract Wood panels are extensively applied in furniture, construction fields, where their versatility and cost-effectiveness make them indispensable, but their assembly relies on adhesives that emit toxic formaldehyde, demand energy-intensive curing, and form weak interfacial bonds. Inspired by wood’s self-repair via cellulose microfibril reorganization, we develop a cellulose-based homologous active adhesive (HAA) derived from wood components.

Parabiosis, Assembloids, Organoids (PAO) (Adv. Sci. 7/2026)
Graphical Abstract Parabiosis, Assembloids, Organoids Inspired by the legend of “Taishang Laojun”, the “Bagua Furnace” symbolizes the origin of life and scientific creation. From it emerge three artifacts: “Vajra Ring” for Parabiosis, “Purple Gold Gourd” for Assembloids, and “Jade Flask” for Organoids, tracing PAO progression from systemic to organ and multi organ levels. The three legs denote artificial intelligence, soft robotics, and gene editing.
Viral glycoprotein-mimicking peptide-functionalized micelles promote drug delivery to diseased chondrocytes for osteoarthritis alleviation - Nature Nanotechnology
Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) affects a large population worldwide, causing chronic pain, functional decline, and increased personal and societal medical costs. A major challenge in developing disease-modifying OA drugs (DMOADs) is the inefficient delivery to diseased chondrocytes. Here we synthesize a viral glycoprotein-mimicking peptide (CMP) containing a type II collagen-adhesive motif and a matrix metalloproteinase-13-activated cell-penetrating peptide sequence.

Aberrant activation of chromosome asynapsis checkpoint triggers oocyte elimination - Nature Communications
Abstract Chromosome synapsis is an evolutionarily conserved process essential for meiotic recombination. HORMAD1 and HORMAD2, which monitor chromosome asynapsis by localizing to unsynapsed chromosome axes, are removed from synapsed chromosome axes by TRIP13, though the biological significance of this process remains unclear. We show that when HORMAD1 and HORMAD2 are retained on synapsed chromosome axes, they recruit BRCA1, activate chromosome asynapsis checkpoint, and trigger oocyte elimination.

ALKBH5 controls the meiosis-coupled mRNA clearance in oocytes by removing the N 6-methyladenosine methylation - Nature Communications
Abstract N6-methyladenosine (m6A) maintains maternal RNA stability in oocytes. One regulator of m6A, ALKBH5, reverses m6A deposition and is essential in RNA metabolism. However, the specific role of ALKBH5 in oocyte maturation remains elusive. Here, we show that Alkbh5 depletion causes a wide range of defects in oocyte meiosis and results in female infertility. Temporal profiling of the maternal transcriptomes revealed striking RNA accumulation in Alkbh5−/− oocytes during meiotic maturation.

The effects of TiO2 nanotube arrays with different diameters on macrophage/endothelial cell response and ex vivo hemocompatibility
Percutaneous coronary intervention with stenting is the most widely adopted surgery for the treatment of coronary disease. However, in-stent restenosis (ISR) continues to be a serious concern. Reinforcing the functionality of endothelial cells (ECs) is of importance to address the ISR. However, limited success from in vivo studies implicates that the underlying mechanisms pertaining to the material-intervened process is not well-perceived to date.
Pickering emulsions by combining cellulose nanofibrils and nanocrystals: Phase behavior and depletion stabilization
In this study, cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) were used to induce depletion stabilization of oil-in-water Pickering emulsions formed by interfacial adsorption of another type of nanocellulose, namely, cellulose nanocrystals (CNC). This depletion effect triggered solely by non-adsorbed CNF was achieved in a novel system that contained spherical droplets and high-aspect cellulose nanorods.
