MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - Banana Ball is in Midland, and some West Texas umpires are getting a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Texas Tailgaters and the Party Animals are in the middle of a three-game series at Momentum Bank Ballpark. The Texas Association of Sports Officials is providing line umpires for all three games. Officials are coming from Midland, San Angelo and Abilene. Craig Kolls, a district director with TASO, said it’s an honor to have a hand in the representation.

BIG SPRING, Texas (KOSA) - The Federal Bureau of Prisons announced it will close the Big Spring Federal Correctional Institution. The Bureau of Prisons announced the closure Wednesday as part of a broader effort to address staffing challenges and a $4 billion maintenance backlog. The prison has operated since 1979, starting as a federal prison camp before officially becoming a low-security facility in 1990. More than 200 workers are expected to lose their jobs.
