Performance Maintenance: Combining Gap Analysis with Feedback Analysis
Performance analysis is as old as labor itself, and with good reason – objective analysis of performance can support innovation on the job. Andrew Carnegie rotated the use of the machinery in his factory, closing down sections at a time for routine maintenance. At the time, this practice was virtually unheard of, with most factories running their equipment day and night until it needed to be replaced.

Why Online Infidelity Is So Common
Online infidelity, online affairs, cyber infidelity, cyber-affairs, internet affairs, even social media cheating. These are some of the many terms given to the act of being unfaithful to your partner by engaging in either emotional or sexual involvement with someone over social media sites, the internet, or the phone. There has been a healthy debate in the past few years as to how to define “online infidelity” and its trademark behaviors. How similar is it to meeting in person?
Year Of Wellness: Change is hard, but good
Every day we hear the results of another study telling us “Eat this, don’t eat that,” or, “Move like this, not like that.” While it is good to learn about adopting healthier behaviors, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Change is hard. Crazy hard. It’s really inconvenient. That’s how we got into this mess in the first place. It is human nature to take the path of least resistance. It takes time and effort to change the way we live our lives.
Using technology to nurture special ed parent-teacher connections
That it “takes a village” is commonly accepted when it comes to educating children, and the axiom rings especially true when a child has special needs. Students with special needs often learn in non-traditional ways. The adults responsible for their development face unique challenges, as well as successes–they’re constantly pursuing novel ways to make things click. And when they do, those aha! moments are what make the extra effort worthwhile.

Year of Wellness: Mindfulness 101
We don’t know what we don’t know. What sounds like an obvious statement is really the fundamental concept behind the “Mindfulness” movement we are hearing and seeing so much about. Awareness creates the potential for change. If we are seeking change, we must first become aware.Too often, we find ourselves in a frenzied, unhappy and unsettled state-of-mind. Many people simply feel there are not enough hours in a day.
Does Being On Your Phone A Lot Really Affect Your Kid? You May Be Surprised
Let's face it, parenting is equal parts wonderful and exhausting. Sometimes the most exhausting part, more than the physical exertion of chasing your littles around all day, is the mental strain of constantly being "on." Answering endless questions, explaining all the "whys" thrown your way, and remembering where every water bottle, lovey, and favorite pair of shoes is can be mentally draining.
How Long Does Formula Last Without Refrigeration? Probably Not As Long As You'd Hoped

Our fight for equity where? How important is it to the collective us?
HONORING A LEGEND: Bob Kenney softball tournament Aug. 13
It has been almost one year since we lost my dad, Bob Kenney, and not a day goes by when I don’t think of him. As many of you know, shortly before he passed in September 2015, he gave me his blessing to begin a scholarship fund to help area high school students with college expenses. It also provided me with an outlet and a chance to honor his legacy. I wanted to take a minute to thank you for your generosity and to provide you with an update.

5 Things to Do to Heal Your Grief When a Relationship Ends
Source: depositphotos/irinavk "In the depth of winter, I finally learned that there was within me an invincible summer." - Albert Camus It is in our darkest moments, when we feel the weakest, when we feel that we cannot go on one moment longer, that our true tests happen. It is also the time when our true self is revealed to us. Our egos and everyday masks are pulled away from us. When we are raw and aching and convinced we will not make it, we are left with ourselves and our pain.

Where Do You Go After Trust Has Been Broken?
Source: depositphotos/kikkerdirk To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved. - George MacDonald Someone left a comment on one of my articles here asking if requiring a partner to submit to a urine test to check for drug use was going too far. On my blog, someone asked about cyber cheating and if it was as bad as actual cheating. Another asked about catching their partner looking at porn. Another objected to their wife having lunch with an ex.
Yankton Press & Dakotan: Healthlines
Before we get too deep into this blog, I can hear some of you ask, “What does HIIT or LISS mean anyway:”. HIIT stands for “high-intensity interval training”; LISS stands for “low intensity steady state” cardio - we sometimes call it SSC or Steady-State Cardio. Normally, folks think that HIIT training is hard and painful (and the reason is most the time it is!), but it doesn’t last as long; doing interval sprints as an example.

Congratulations!!!! It’s a Teen!
Source: Ken Ginsburg Parenting a teenager can bring some of the greatest joys of parenting. Haven’t heard that too often, have you? That’s part of the problem. Too many parents are warned they should hold onto their children while they can because adolescence will turn them into people they don’t know and may not like. In turn, the fear and low expectations of teens imposed on parents is subtly (and not so subtly!!) transmitted to their developing children.

9 Ways To Not Hit Your Fitness Goals This Year
This is the opposite of making a plan. If Coach Rozy had an evil twin brother, “just wing it” might be his catch phrase. You can’t “just wing it” with your fitness and performance training. You have to make a plan — including a training journal and diet guide to follow — that includes all your short-term and long-term training goals.
Better Achilles Tendon Stretch
A frequently seen stretch for the calf muscles and Achilles tendon is the "lunge and lean" stretch. It is one of the least effective ways to stretch your calf and Achilles. Although many people spend much time doing this stretch, they often get little or no stretch: The "lunge and lean" is not highly effective, even when done "well," and is often done in the ineffective ways listed above. This is one reason why Achilles tendon stretching doesn't seem to be cutting down on injuries as hoped.
Calories Burned in Prayer
Last week at the sports medicine conference, I talked to a researcher from Kuwait University. Dr. Jasem Ramadan presented a lovely little study called Bioenergetics of Islamic Prayers, measuring the amount of oxygen and calories the physical movements of the prayers burned. Five standard prayers (Salat) are mandatory every day for every adult male and female Muslim. Each prayer has a continuous sequence of body movements (Rakkas) consisting of standing, bowing, kneeling and sitting.
Do You Lose Most Of Your Heat Through Your Head?
Losing most of your heat through your head is a popular myth. Head heat loss is not the majority of body heat lost. Not even close. Years of my career in research have been to study how the human body performs in extremes - exercise, injury states and how to prevent them, working and exercising in heat and cold, changes in air and pressure on mountain tops, and the related but different problems in space and underwater. I have lived in laboratories underwater and done experiments aboard aircraft.
Supportive Hard Shoes Linked to Knee Loading and Arthritis
A Rush University Medical Center study has found that supportive, stable shoes increases the load on the knee joints compared with flat, flexible footwear or going barefoot. Clogs and stability shoes increased loads on the knee joints up to 15 percent over flat walking shoes, flip-flops or barefoot.
Vertebral Artery Compression, Dizziness, Discs, and the Forward Head
I received an e-mail from Serbia. Miroslav had suffered eight years of dizziness from compression of the vasculature and nerves of his neck. Then he found how to prevent the bad position called "forward head" using my methods. Miroslav had previously read various sources promoting the often-repeated bad advice to bend the neck forward as a the way to make space for the nerves that exit the back of spine. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
