(WSAW) - A microscopic parasite found in lakes and other bodies of water can cause a skin rash known as swimmer’s itch, and health officials say lake-goers should know how to protect themselves. Tammy King, an environmental health specialist with the Langlade County Health Department, said the condition is a concern wherever there is water. “Swimmer’s itch is something every lake and body of water around the world has to be concerned about, especially in summer months,” King said.

Local group advocating for Spencer to Medford rail line use

COLBY, Wis. (WSAW) - A group in central Wisconsin is working to restore a rail line that has been out of service since 2022. The Dairyland Rail Commission, formed in March, wants to see the Spencer-to-Medford rail line used for freight and tourism. Jim Schmidt, chairman of the Dairyland Rail Commission, said local businesses have expressed interest in using the line. “We’ve been getting a lot of requests for businesses to move to the area, but they’re looking for rail,” Schmidt said.
