Author Correction: Whole-brain, all-optical interrogation of neuronal dynamics underlying gut and vascular interoception in zebrafish
Correction to: Nature Communications https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-026-76242-8, published online 27 August 2026 In the version of the article initially published, in the “Signal and noise correlation analysis” section of the Methods, “\( < \,\cdot \,{ > }_{t}\)” should have read “\( < \,\cdot \,{ > }_{k}\)”. This correction has been made to the HTML and PDF versions of the article.
A cross-species atlas platform for comparative neuroscience in teleost fish
Abstract Uncovering general principles connecting neural circuits to behaviour requires comparative brain analyses across species. To advance these efforts, we developed a standardised workflow and a unified brain atlas platform for the quantitative comparison of neural structures between two teleost larvae, medaka (Oryzias latipes) and zebrafish (Danio rerio).
Long Before There Was a Response to Terrorism, There was a Devotion to Killing Others
To the Editor: In the 25 years since the 9/11 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 in the US, including many from Connecticut, Islamists have murdered almost another 250,000 and committed tens of thousands of acts of terror worldwide in the name of their twisted ideology. While 9/11 was the worst single-day terrorist attack in history, the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led massacre in Israel was also traumatic, with 4,800 killed, kidnapped, and injured.
Letter: Most news outlets misinform audiences about Israel and Hamas
I applaud both David Harsanyi for his Friday, Sept. 4 column “The‘Gaza genocide’ is a hoax” and the Republican-American for courageously running it. Interestingly, the Society of Professional Journalists recently met on their code of ethics.
Imaging cellular activity across all organs reveals body-wide circuits
|
Abstract An animal’s ability to survive and thrive—whether fleeing from danger, eating a meal, or fighting an infection—arises from the collective moment-to-moment activity of many interacting cell types throughout the body. Physiology seeks to elucidate these cellular interactions that span organs, cell types and timescales, but has been limited by the inability to record this time-varying cellular activity simultaneously throughout the entire body.

Whole-brain, all-optical interrogation of neuronal dynamics underlying gut and vascular interoception in zebrafish
Abstract To select behaviors appropriate to their circumstances and needs, animals integrate information about the external environment with information about the state of their bodies, derived from sensing and processing internal signals (interoception).
From Kansas City to Seattle: A Growing Hunger for the God of Israel
At a time when Israel stands at the center of global attention and the Jewish people face mounting challenges, I had the privilege this past week of traveling across the United States and encountering something deeply encouraging: a rising tide of Christian leaders and communities turning toward the God of Israel, the Torah, and the eternal teachings of the Hebrew Bible.
Letter: New public-school curriculum in CT could be gateway to antisemitism Original
Connecticut education officials and school boards should keep their eyes wide open about the new public education curriculum on “Arab and Islamic studies for schools,” which is to be formulated under new legislation. While the new curriculum can create an opportunity for students, there are a number of states where Arab studies curricula have turned virulently anti-Jewish.
Experience-dependent modulation of collective behavior in larval zebrafish
Abstract Complex group behavior can emerge from simple inter-individual interactions, yet how prior social experience shapes these interactions remains unclear. Using naturalistic and virtual-reality experiments, we varied prior social experience by exposing zebrafish larvae to high or low group densities, then measured its effects on future social interactions and group structure.
When a pastor speaks truth to power
There is a moment in the Hebrew Bible that has never lost its force. In Second Samuel, the prophet Nathan walks into the throne room of the most powerful king in Israel’s history. David has sinned gravely. He’s abused his power, taken another man’s wife, and arranged that man’s death. And Nathan, knowing all of this, opens his mouth anyway. “You are the man.” Three words. That’s all it took. I thought of Nathan recently while watching a video posted by a Christian Pastor from Lakeland, Florida.
Purim, Politics, and Providence: What Mordechai Teaches Us About Israel, Iran, and the Spiritual Battle of Our Time
Every year, as Jews celebrate Purim, the story recorded in the Book of Esther reminds us that history is never merely political. Beneath royal decrees, shifting alliances, and geopolitical threats lies a deeper drama — the unseen hand of God guiding events toward redemption. For believers watching today’s escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, the Purim story is not simply ancient history. It is a spiritual lens through which we can understand our present moment.
On Gaza, let's believe facts over fiction
In response to “On Gaza and Palestine: Lest we forget,” we have not been “duped” on Gaza. Quite the contrary, actually. Hamas remains the controlling entity of the area and has publicly executed Gazans who speak against it. Among other ceasefire violations, Hamas remains armed – a threat to both Israel and Gazans.

Letter: Editorial pointed to the truth about the war to eliminate Israel Original
The Feb. 3 editorial, Will Trump’s Board of Peace deliver, was an exceptional exposition and commentary on Gaza. A defining feature in the news coverage throughout the media for the past year is the gloss over and omission of a fundamental fact: This war began when 6,000 Palestinians from Gaza breached Israel’s border at 119 locations and committed the worst large-scale atrocities against Jews since the Holocaust.
Editorial: Glorification of antisemitism is inexcusable
Thank you for publishing such an informative and common sense response to rewarding terrorism as “‘Peace’ activists honor hate figure”(Friday, Nov. 21). The awardee, Mahmoud Khalil, is on the wrong side of morality, humanity, and the law. In a just and lawful society like ours, aggravated rape, torture, murder and kidnapping are prosecuted, and perpetrators are jailed. In Gaza, however, those crimes and barbarities, when perpetrated against Jews, are widely celebrated with music and candy.

Kayaks won't bring relief --or peace-- to Gaza
The World Central Kitchen was among the first groups on the ground after Hamas and its Palestinian supporters invaded Israel and slaughtered 1,200 Israeli and foreign civilians on October 7, 2023. WCK remained in Israel throughout 19 months of war, feeding tens of thousands of Israelis whose homes had been torched or who were displaced by rocket, drone, and ballistic missile attacks by Iranian proxies from the north, south and east.
Iran war is a just one
Kudos for providing local coverage of the Israel-Iran war ("Conn. leaders concerned about Israel-Iran repercussions," June 14) and for reporting Sen. Richard Blumenthal's well-reasoned statement. While this war will have an impact on Americans, a nuclear Iran would be far worse. On June 14 and in subsequent articles, some other federal officials try to blame Israel, which is ludicrous and short-sighted. Far from "spiraling towards a new, deadly conflict," as Sen.
Israel365 Action Sparks Grassroots Momentum with MK Ohad Tal
In the hills of Judea and the heart of Jerusalem, a movement is stirring — one that blends political action with personal connection, and unites communities across continents. Over the past few weeks, Israel365 Action has been hosting a dynamic series of house parties and meet-and-greets featuring Member of Knesset Ohad Tal, drawing passionate crowds in Maale Adumim, Efrat, and Jerusalem.
Editorial drew false Israel-Palestine equivalence
Addressing thousands of years of Middle East history in a few paragraphs made interesting reading. However, I completely disagree with the implication in the recent Republican-American editorial, "Facing facts on Israel-Palestine," that the global community can ask anything of Hamas and expect rationality in response. Israel and Hamas cannot be treated as equals, even for an essay.
Fostering antisemitism in Connecticut
Over 16 months have passed since the largest mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust. Hamas and its supporters, at least until recently, have continued to torture live hostages and hold the bodies of those they killed in captivity. Despite the 5,000 miles between Connecticut and Israel, the atrocities of October 7 have never been far away. Over the past year we’ve increasingly seen hateful acts against Jews on our side of the world as well.
The Blogs: Breaking the Chains of Legacy Zionism
The upcoming World Zionist Congress (WZC) election, scheduled from March 10 to May 5, 2025, is a pivotal moment for the global Jewish community. As highlighted in a recent article, this election will determine the allocation of over $1 billion annually to Jewish institutions for the next five years. The piece emphasizes the traditional tug-of-war between Orthodox and liberal factions, suggesting a binary choice for voters.
Shomron Day Trip: Discovering the Heart of Israel
On January 20, 2025, Israel365 Action hosted an unforgettable day trip through the stunning landscapes and rich heritage of the Shomron (Samaria) region. This journey was a powerful blend of breathtaking views, profound historical insights, and an exploration of the region’s strategic importance.

On the future of the CT-Israel economic relationship
Like others from time to time, a writer recently asked in an op-ed, “Why does CT have $95 million invested in Israel?” The answer is obvious: Israel is the “Start-up nation” whose companies, listed by the writer in his op-ed, bring high returns for the benefit of Connecticut.
The U.S. must end incentives in Israeli-Palestinian conflict
Since a reversal of long-standing American policy around the turn of the century, several American administrations have been obsessed with achieving a so-called “two-state solution” between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs for a final peace, including division of the land outside Israel’s 1949 armistice line with Jordan, sometimes incorrectly called the “West Bank.” There have been numerous offers, all rejected by Palestinian leaders, who prefer rejectionism, terrorism and maybe Western funds...
The Jewish Nomad: Ilana Zackon spent Purim springing back on stage (with some friends)
It had been two-and-half-years since I last performed on a stage.Purim 2022 made the return of something I love to do come true. How, you may ask? Temple Sinai, a Reform synagogue in the North York area of Toronto, was paying tribute to a legendary member. The show was called A Star is Borsht, and I was fortunate to be selected as one of the performers.
Doorstep Postings: The politics of Ontario are yours to discover not much room for arguments
This is the eighth in a series of opinion columns on the 2022 Ontario provincial election, written by Josh Lieblein for The CJN. I’m not exactly sure when I realized that, in most of Ontario, disagreement is treated as a rude intrusion at best and a threat at worst. So deeply embedded is this taboo against conflict that I broke it constantly in my sojourns outside the Jewish community—without knowing it was there to break.
Three Montreal rabbis are now reflecting on the tragedy and humanity they witnessed at the Ukrainian-Poland border-and they urge Canadians to do more
Some might say there was no need for three Canadian rabbis to leave the comfort of our congregations and the safety of Canada to travel to the Polish-Ukrainian border, but we felt an obligation to provide whatever aid and support we could to the refugees fleeing war. We simply could not sit back while preaching about the responsibility to support those in need without taking steps to exercise that responsibility ourselves.

It's time to stop demonizing Israel
Debris from a Hamas rocket fell in Winter Pond Park in Netanya where Stein, one of the writers of this piece, was prevented by the Israel Defense Forces from riding his bike around the pond because it was deemed too dangerous. The immoral drumbeats of the BDS movement keep getting shriller. A highly misleading screed by Haddiyyah Ali appeared in CT Viewpoints July 2.

Most unlikely one-time NBA All-Stars
Just a few years ago, a player like Kyle Korver making an All-Star team would have been unthinkable. But with the three-point revolution, the Hawks small forward made a name for himself, shooting nearly 50 percent from beyond the arc. For his efforts, Korver was named an All-Star in 2015.
Best NBA players never to make an All-Star game

The 30 greatest NBA nicknames of all time
The ultimate basketball nickname belongs to former Nets and 76ers Hall of Fame player Julius Erving. “Dr. J” was one of the original high flyers to play in the NBA and ABA, and his jaw-dropping dunks are still amazing to watch.

Is Petco Ready Fur Amazon
As the pet care industry continues to grow, the competition between retailers to become top dog has intensified. Amazon recently entered the playpen with its private label brand Wag, while Chewy has continued to grow in relevance. Feeling the squeeze in the e-commerce ecosystem, Petco has turned its focus to brick-and-mortar. PetCoach, which was acquired by Petco in April 2017, opened its first physical store on Friday, offering grooming, training, and veterinary care to pet owners.
The best pick from every NBA Draft
Jayson Tatum had an outstanding first season as the third overall pick in 2017, but his season was not as impressive as Donovan Mitchell's debut. Taken 13th overall by the Nuggets and traded to the Jazz, Mitchell led all rookies in 2017-18 in points, averaging 20.5 per game, and he helped the Jazz reach the postseason when expectations were low after Gordon Hayward went to Boston in free agency.
